Are character outfits restricted by class?

First, have a look at this picture:

I've been playing around with the character creator on and off for about a week now, exploring various features before I purchase the game.

Currently, the two classes that appeal to me most are Warrior and Mage>Arcane Warrior.

But as silly as it sounds, I don't want my Grey Warden to run around in a full length skirt!
See Warrior for the kind of outfit I prefer.

Is there anything that can be done about this ingame?

Or if I choose Mage, am I stuck with the skirt?

Once you unlock the Arcane Warrior specialization, you'll be able to wear warrior armor. The earliest in the game that you can get that specialization is about 10-15 hours in though. What you can do if you really hate mage outfits is play through as a warrior or rogue first and unlock the Arcane Warrior. It will then be automatically unlocked for all future playthroughs, so you'll be able to get it for your mage in less than 8 hours. You can also put a few points into strength or dexterity (I'd say pumping up to 13 would be enough, because items will pump them further) to wear some low-level rogue and warrior armor in the beginning. You will cast spells at a penalty though. :/

Of course, on the PC, you can probably find some mods that will solve all of it in one blow. Here's one in particular that you may like: The Winter Forge
