My party consists of myself (dual wielding rogue), Shale as a tank, generally the dog as additional DPS and Wynne for healing.

My problem is, two seconds after entering combat, wynne is already out of mana.  I've gone through and changed her tactics it so she only heals and throws out a regen on shale when he's below 90%.  We're getting to the point tho, where as soon as Shale drops - the rest of us are as good as dead.

Any suggestions - what stats improve mana regen?

Your wasting mana on healing someone who has 90% health try setting it to below 50% health.

Also, script her first action as Self-mana or stamina below x%-use lyrium potions (weakest).

Personally I prefer 25 or 50% as the threshold.

As Delcar said, make sure you're using her abilities to regeneration mana/stamina. Check her tactics; the default ones are pretty bad imo.

Also, don't allow her to activate Rock Armor or any of her other sustained abilities. Those will not only penalize her maximum mana, but also impose fatigue costs to additional spells and eat up her mana like none other.

In addition, magic adds to spellpower, which only boosts the potency of your OFFENSIVE spells as far as I know. So if you find Wynne just doesn't have enough mana, when you level her, put your points in willpower rather than magic. She's not an offensive caster anyway, so it doesn't matter if she has lower magic than Morrigan or a PC mage.

Sable, you just gave a lot of bad advice. First of all, Rock Armor's mana loss and fatigue cost is negligible, but the armor boost can work wonders when she gets attacked if you're decking her out in cloth. Second of all, spellpower does boost heals.

That said:
  • If you do Wynne's personal quest, you unlock an ability that gives her a lot of mana regeneration and spellpower.
  • If you give Wynne a spell like Rejuvenation, Spellbloom, or Death Syphon her mana regeneration should be good. Giving her two skill points in Combat Training for the added +1/sec combat mana regeneration and decreased spell interruption isn't too bad either.
  • Vendors in Orzammar and the Circle Tower sell unlimited Lyrium dust iirc, which you can use to make mana potions with the Herbalism skill.
  • Leliana (or any Bard) can use Song of Valor to boost mana regeneration.

I somehow find it hard to consider Wynne as a Blood Mage...

Oops, didn't realize spellpower boosted healing. I must've read that on an earlier version of the wikia :(

However, I maintain that Wynne's sustained abilities are a waste of mana. She has few attack spells, and no burst/blast spells like Shock or Mind Blast that require her to be anywhere near the front of the battle, so the few times I've played with her, she's long range and doesn't get attacked. She does so little damage that she shouldn't draw any threat either.

You can make any character any specialization, though having Wynne as a blood mage kinda breaks the character immersion. I believe the devs were originally planning on having certain party members resist learning certain specializations, but then decided it was too much work.

You must be running sustainable talents or spells. That means they will always be on and always consume a portion of your overall mana/stamina bar.
