I start the Harrowing and once I get attacked I cannot come out of combat. I have walked everywhere I can walk and killed everything I can kill. I cannot talk to either of the quest marked NPC's.

The Templar looking guy just stands there and the spikey bear thing just sleeps.

Nothing happens. Oh the rat guy did talk to me but he just follows me around. There is nothing else for me to click on now.

I have even deleted and started a new mage and same things. So either I am missing someting or its broken. There are no enemies but I am in combat.

Okay, its official. I cannot play a mage. I stay in combat regardless of what I do. I have started and deleted 3 mages. After I have to kill the first sprite thing I stay in combat and cannot talk to the Templar Spirit ghost thing.

I even watched a video on the origin to make sure I wasn't missing anything. My game is perma bugged. Outside of a complete reinstall I am not sure what I can do.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

My loading screens are too short to ever actually read the tips, but the last one that flashed by said something about sheathing your weapon. Look through the controls and maybe there is a way to put your weapon away and end combat.

I have no weapon.

I also made an elf rogue just to test it out. She works fine. Only the Mage Origin has the problem. Everyone else can get out of combat.

That is weird. I wonder if a creature is somehow ending up aggro and underneath the world. Effectively leaving the game stuck in combat mode... but unreachable. Not the first time I'd have seen that happen in a game..

I did the Female Elf Mage Harrowing track, and didn't have any problems.

Ive now tried it with every race and gender you can be a mage with. Same thing every time.

I think there is a problem with the mage origin in general.

My problem is this:
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/161793

I know this comes after the Harrowing, but I've never had this problem on my other characters, which leads me to believe it's something to do with the origin.

*spoilers if you haven't played past the origin*

On mine, I cannot get Alistair to join my party at any point after meeting him. After the first conversation where he is supposed to follow you to duncan, he just stands there. Later on, when he should be speaking, he's not there. And when people turn to look at him, they all look to the ground.

Anyway, not trying to jack your thread, I know these are two different problems. I'm just curious if they are linked by the mage origin somehow.
We need more posts from people who have played mages.

I'd go along with agreeing there could be a connections. We need more input from other mage types or anyone who has had issues within the mage origins.

I really wanted to play a Mage too. After using Morrigan to nuke things I was looking forward to it.

I thought I was stuck too when I was at that part. I ended up fighting the sloth demon and he got bored and laid back down after I beat on him and it looked like I was still ready for combat but there was nothing to attack and the sloth didn't want to talk to me anymore. I walked to the large circular open area that you first pass when entering the Fade and was able to talk to the rat again, then defeated the demon, and was finally back in "real" world.

I believe I have found the cause of my problem, and I do not think it relates to the origin. I think my problem was caused by the Toolset. I installed it after completing the game on my first character, and that is when the problem began. This thread reports similar issues:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/162260

Now, I can't say if this relates to your problem. Have you installed the Toolset recently? If not, then I'm afraid I still have no leads to what is causing your issue. If, however, you have installed the Toolset, try following the advice on the thread above. I'm backing up my save games and then following those steps. If they do not fix my problem, I plan to uninstall the game, then remove the Toolset and reinstall the game.

Again, it's hard for me to say if this is of any use to you, but I assume it's worth posting, to at least try. More posts from people having issues similar to this would surely help narrow it down as well.

The steps that ChandlerL posted on that thread in my above post fixed my problem :)
Hopefully your problem is something similar!
