But doing so tended to break your character later. On Virmire you're presented with pretty much the exact same choice, and there you can't choose the non-genocide option.Lord_Valandil wrote...
Rachni? And you could choose to save them.

Why? My Shepard didn't break.
And...yes, that's right. But they were going to be Saren's slaves and a potential threat. At least there are free elves, and their rise isn't so unlikely.

As a matter of fact... their rise is very unlikely.

With the Chantry falling to pieces...
Maybe (and just maybe) Hawke, or any future character can help them to fight and rise. Or on the other hand, destroy them. Who knows.

I've read it. You have some good points, actually. But I still don't think that it's impossible.
I mean, people have done "impossible" things before. And while it's still unlikely that they win the fight, they could die trying. I would like to see a rebellion, instead of seeing them rotting in the alienage.

The Elves in the Denerim Alienage tried it, remember? They were immediately purged and put back in line due to their inability to organize with other alienages.

Of course, I remember.
We'll have to wait and see what happens with the elves. At least, I think that Bioware will give us the decision to free or destroy them. Maybe not in DA2, but in the future, perhaps.
I'd like to save them.

I'm not sure that destroying the elves is any more possible than liberating them. In fact I'd classify both likelihoods occuring in the context of a player's decision as impossible.
If the elves are going to be destroyed, it wont be in a moment, it'll be over many generations as the race fades slowly into the past.
The only salvation for the elves is independance from humans. In becoming equal to humans then they cease to be elves, as interbreeding between the two races produces only humans. And independance is unlikely to say the least... to say impossible is not much of a stretch.
The elves are a dieing breed. It is only a matter of time. Eventually they will fade into the pages of history and be forgotten.

Break free of their service? In Ferelden, maybe a few decades, with some very progressive ruling and a rather lot of bloodshed along the way. Thedas-wide? Much, much longer (if ever), unless something brings very widespread change.
Regain their kingdom-cities? Maybe closer to halfway through the age or nearer the end, if an outside force aids them (doubtful that they could pull it off on their own). Even if they could persuade the other nations to accept them, they'd still have to form some sort of government structure if they were to hope to be treated as equals. Which, due to their status, is something I'd imagine they have little experience with.

When will the Elves rise once again?
Never. We humans are the superior race.

But we can strive to improve life for the elves. The Dales was a failure because they became too isolationist and hostile to their human neighbours. The elves need to leave the injustices done to them in the past; Arlathan is gone forever.
Helping to stop the Blight was the first step towards getting back a homeland for the elves, but now they need to work on fostering peace with the humans.

Is this sarcasm, or should I fire up Malwarebytes?
The active security on my laptop is terrible and I'm too lazy to install something.

The page legitimately tried to download a trojan virus. I'd run your scans if you opened that page.

While he may just be trying to be a troll... he does actually have a point.
Interbreeding between human and elven parents only produces humans. Even breeding between half-elven humans and elves produces only humans.
That means human genetics would be superior to elven genetics, no matter which way you cut the cake.
