i dont get it, whats wrong with steam?
Some people just don't like any form of DRM on there computer.
Honestly I have never really had a problem with Steam myself, helps keep games managed, auto updates when patches are released as well as notifying me of any news relating to my games comes out. Also gives a spot to help out indie developers get there product out as well as some amazing Sales, discounts and bonus content every so often.

Tell me, do all you Steam-haters also believe that Obama is a secret muslim? How about the earth being flat?

PC gamers are in no position to complain about security measures like Steam. You made your own bed, now sleep in it. You guys are lucky games like Civilization V are even made anymore.
Nice to see you are your normal, cheery and "Unbiased" self Busom. Now go back under your bridge.

It is, for the moment.
I was a bit annoyed when my retail version of Orange Box needed Steam to install and being playable.

Free updates, free games (Portal/Alein Swarm), free DLC, integrated better multiplayer, IM/group chat system. For
the majority of people, steam improves the experience. These fellows will complain about anything and everything due to an over sense of importance, they are under the impression the world should operate the way they want it too. 25 million people actively and freely use steam, it has won, get over it please.

I'm under no such impression. I'm well aware that some things in the world do not work the way I want them to. So I choose not to use those things. Why does that seem to offend you so much?

In regards to Civ 5. It's awesome. I can't wait to get off work tonight and go play my Aztecs. Metacritic has a average score of 91 after 28 reviews.

Having to install STEAM, and also wait for STEAM to unlock the game, when I own a physical copy of a game is a very annoying feature and it doesn't have anything to do with whether STEAM is a good platform for purchasing games on or not.

Steam represents a threat to the freeloader culture of PC gaming and they hate it.

anyway Steam doesn't require you to be connected to internet all the time to play SP games. In fact you only need to activate the game once, then you can just run Steam in offline mode whenever you want and you will be able to play the game no problem.

So which Civilizations do you want to play? I like to play as Persia, Babylon, Russia, China, Japan and Germany.

The real reason people complain about Steam is because they just want to be able to get the game for free from whatever torrent website the frequently visit and not have to worry about any hassle later.

Why is it every time a Steam discussion gets started, the Steam supporters resort to the tired and wildly inaccurate "Only pirates have an issue with Steam" argument?
I take offense to implication that I pirate games just because I don't like Steam. I've never pirated a game in my life and don't intend to. Please, trim down the trolling, jack.

Oh please, games always get cracked as far as I know.
Question remains though. What sense does it make that I am forced to install some additional program that I may not be interested in at all just so I could play the game that I have paid money for to play? What does that bring me as a paying customer?
Answer: A pain in the butt that the free-loading pirates won't have to deal with.
Like I said, I don't have a particular problem with STEAM because I use it myself. But I have to admit that I'm kinda miffed that, after getting happy since I received my physical copy today, I still had to wait because STEAM haven't unlocked the game yet.

I think the people who are whining about steam are torrent junkies simply because if you really wanted to play the game that badly then you wouldn't be making such a big deal over downloading something which is completely free...everything else most PC gamers get on their computer is free so what is the big deal about downloading steam?
You just hate it because it means you won't be able to play early cracked versions of the game so you can play through it for free and then post spoilers all over the forums before the game comes out.

I have no doubt they'll eventually be cracked but anything that adds a bit of inconvenience to the torrent junkies is a good thing, even if it's just a minor one.

Yea, because that's why I don't want unnecessary software on my pc.. *rolls eyes*
I just love how when someone says they don't want a game because of this, or something similar, they are automatically a pirate.. I have more than a few games, in my possession that I payed cash for at a retailer to have the hard copy, that I don't play because they try to install unwanted software that is unavoidable. But yea, I guess that makes me a pirate, huh? lol
Back on topic, I wouldn't mind so much if I used steam or had plans to in the future (or a reason to use it, for that matter), but as I don't have plans of using it, I choose to not have it.

Damn STEAM for foiling my evil plan of posting spoilers from Civ V.
But clearly, Bismarck is the final boss, and oh... You can totally romance Catherine, but if you do so her lover Gandhi will hunt you down and you have to fight him in a boss fight. It's quite awesome.
