Damn it. Now I have images of Hawke hanging upside down from gargoyles.

Bethany can't be a superhero. With her breasts anyone would recognize her. The same goes for Hawke's beard and the fact that he smells like Nutella.

What? He does.

What are you suggesting? That she cover up her breasts rather than her face? For shame! SHUN Dhiro... SHUN HIM! SHUN THE NONBELIEVER!

"The Mage class was selectable however unbelievably both times I went I ended up on the one machine which didn't have the class unlocked. Very annoying!"

Wonder why they didnt they have it unlocked on all machines sounds strange :?, good to see it was selectable though wonder if anyone was lucky enough to play as mage :wizard:

Just returned from the Expo having spent two lengthy sessions playing a male warrior and male rogue. In the 2nd playthrough deliberately played half the demo as Bethany just to get a feel for the mage abilities.

First off, I must say I don't get the negative comments about DA2. I frikkin' loved playing that demo. I went in with an open mind, trying to stay objective about graphics, combat, voice-over, but to be honest, I forgot about all that. I thought the combat changes from DAO really up the fun factor. The game just feels so much more responsive to me. I'm still trying to put my finger on what made me enjoy it so much. I think there are two main things for me:

1. Combat - First off, I'm a PC guy. It did take me a couple minutes to get the hang of the xbox controls. There was a fair amount of button mashing involved, but I can't express how much fun it was to throw in the special abilities. You needed to hit the default attack quite a bit while waiting for the special attacks to become available again. The rogue had this one ability which basically pulled him out of an encounter with a giant leap backward - loved that move. In the demo it wasn't much use as Hawke was invincible, but I can imagine it being a great addition to the final game.

2. Voice-over - I've read alot about how great the new cutscenes are and I think that's probably the other reason for it being more enjoyable. Having Hawke voiced just seems to feel right - as much as it limits our choices for the PC, I think it's a good trade-off for making me feel more involved with the story. I loved Hawke's voice work and I really noticed some of the work that has gone into making the face more expressive. Great work.

I could rattle on, but just wanted to get those intial impressions out there. I seriously went into this fearing the worst, but based on my time with the demo I can't wait to play DA2 again.

@Apollo Starflare I watched each of the four demo machines to see if the mage was selectable, but I'm pretty sure all four machines had that choice locked.

@Lintanis I did try and take a video of the gameplay, got a few seconds into it and the EA guy came over and stopped me. Watching the game just does not convey how much fun it is to play. Even waiting in line for my first session I was still feeling a bit unsure about the changes, but when you're in the driving seat it all just comes together.

@The Hardest Bethany was fun to play. The animations for mages are way more detailed than anything I've seen in DAO. I loved the default staff attacks and at one point Bethany seemed to mimic the attack that Hawke carries out in the hi-res trailer. The one with the staff to the ground and a stream of flame extending out towards the target. It happened very quickly, but looked awesome.

I think my favourite character in that whole demo was Flemeth. Her voice-over and dialogue is soooo good. I loved her in DAO, but this was even better imo. Kate Mulgrew is a genius.

How does the PC having a voice resrtict our degree of choice? As far as we can tell, the only thing set in stone about Hawke is his/her backround. I don't really get where people are coming from with that.

Did Bethany made those melee attacks as Mike mentioned? I'm not sure what default attacks meant.

cool!!

how about Bethany's standard staff melee attacks where she's just striking with her staff.

Did those attacks look as cool as the warrior and rogue standard attacks?

Did they look like they way Hawke attacked in the trailer with his staff ( not the fire slam move......just the regular fighting moves )?

thanks.

@The Hardest, lunarknight The combat was fairly chaotic, but when the darkspawn were close Bethany did seem to be engaging in some sort of melee attack. Hard to know for sure, did notice the staff sending out projectiles from both ends though. And of course the "fire slam move"... The mage fighting animations are very detailed and completely different to DAO. Playing her I did feel like the mages have a lot more ooomph in combat, but so hard to judge these things with such a short demo.

@Delerius Didn't play LadyHawke I'm afraid and everyone had earphones on. She looked great though.

cool!  thanks!! can't wait till we see some official gameplay vids of combat for all classes.

the way Bethany attacked with her staff, did it look "martial-arts" like?  kind of like in the Trailer, the way Hawke twirled it around, held it behind his back in a "reverse grip," etc.

me and my other half went today and played the demo. it was amazing. a lot longer than we had both anticpated as a demo (and no seats, but who's complaining!) they had about 5 screens and it was definitely worth the wait. hawke kicks arse as does bethany! won't say more than that but really lookimg forward to the release. 5 months seems so long to wait though!
