Honestly these impressions about the demo have me psyched for the finished game next year. *sigh* I even bought Jade Empire and KOTOR to help tide me over. Bioware is my new crack.

Bethany seems fun, I liked what banter there was between her and Hawke, think that she could be a lot of fun to bring along just for the dialogue.

Apollo, could you elaborate on this a little bit?  What was it about her that seemed fun?  I'm just curious about the character.Image IPB

She just seems like a fun companion! There are little moments even in the demo, such as when Hawke and Bethany decide who should deal with the approaching Darkspawn in the exagerrated sequence ("after you, sister." *boom, fireball*). It's hard to really give any other specific examples without playing it again, but I just felt they had captured the sibling bond there quite well. :)

Oh and @Truedor: Yeah I loved the reference to the Grey Warden's, it's a real tease about how close Hawke is to the events of Origins really as when someone says "but they are all dead", Flemeth responds "not all, but they are beyond our reach now." There are also a fair few references to Cailan, which was a nice touch.

Bethany can't be a superhero. With her breasts anyone would recognize her.

Actually, that breasts make her a superhero. It's the most common superpower, after all.

@Esbatty Even standing in line to play it, I was still thinking "meh, these graphics don't look so good..." etc... But once you're actually playing it, completely different. I was completely pulled into story, combat, characters, the whole thing... loved it!

@Apollo Starflare Yes that's it, love the "they are beyond our reach now." Beautiful. Actually the writing was outstanding I thought. Some great little references to DAO and references to what Hawke is about to go through.

For those who have posted their thoughts on the demo, can I post them on the Facebook discussion forums as well? You will be credited and linked to of course. :D

just curious........

for those who played as Bethany during the demo..........

did she cast all of her spells using her Staff? Did she cast any spells using her hands or "mind"?

I heard somewhere that all spells in DA2 will involve the staff now.

I hope that is not true, as I would like to be able to shoot fire or lightning out of my hands and not just through my staff........

@lunarknightmage That's a good question. There was a spell (difficult to recognise them, the symbols are very different) which definitely did not involve the staff. Almost like a mind blast. I must say I was really impressed with the animations for Bethany on the whole.

I was already fairly giddy, but I think this made me a bit giddier.

... calling me out on the forums about my being a ficcer. Shame. Hahaha. It's finished! Plotting a sequel, actually.

Yay :D

@lunarknightmage: Truedor is correct and it was in fact 'mind blast' returning (I checked it's name). She sort of stands still for a moment, and waves a hand (I think) followed by a the mind blast. The only other spells were Fireball and a single target lightning attack.

Come on, thats clearly Morrigan-she's the only one with a red hood!

Unless its another one of Flemeth's daughters? Another Witch of the Wilds? Or is that Flemeth herself, even though she doesn't seem the hood wearing type, especially with her new dragon hair horn thing?

Don't burst my Morrigan bubble so readily Laidlaw!:crying:

Guys.
It's a video game.

@jhawke Playing the warrior was great. Depending on distance from the target, there were various ways that Hawke "approached" your selected target. There was one move (I'm assuming that's the charge attack) that had him basically flying across the ground and carrying out a explosive swing. Very, very satisfying. Overall the 2-handed weapon swings are really brutal. Seeing Hawke scythe his way through multiple targets never got old. I think the change to slow down the 2-handed attacks is a good though, because when playing the rogue the speed of attacks felt too similiar to me. The 2-handed sword Hawke was using is enormous.
