Your kidding right? You honestly feel you deserve a free AAA game? I have no idea where the gaming "community" gets this feeling of entitlement, you do realize they at no point forced you to purchase any of that?

I don't care for the DLC model at all, regardless of the arguments about value etc as frankly I have no idea what it actually costs Bioware to make them or how much they sell. What I do know is that despite my love of the company, they owe me nada, jack, the only arrangement between me and Bioware is that if they make something I want, ill give them cash for it.

I hope not. While I strongly disagree with the OP (and am still waiting for reasons why we would want to do such a thing), I don't want people getting mean and nasty with people they disagree with.

While I do understand what you're asking, heck I love free stuff too, it likely won't happen.

Reebok doesn't give away free shoes, Toyota free cars or Microsoft free computers. It just isn't good business.

That doesn't mean we don't appreciate you, just that, as a business, we appreciate your monetary support as well. ;)

I disagree it is not unheard of for various companies to give away free items aka. promotional events.

well we are getting sum free epic items if we advertise the game on facebook

but I have a feeling they won't end up so well

A free copy of DAII for purchase of DAO and all its DLC is way too ask for, however a discount is not. Will they give us one? Probably not.

I think some people jumping down Stanley's throat failed to notice that:

A) The OP was complaining about the DLC (optional material he was not forced to buy).
B) The OP also complained about the expansion (also optional material that he was not forced to buy).
C) After complaining about how much he spent on things he hated, the OP then proceeded to ASK TO GET THE SEQUEL FREE as one of his ideas on how "we" should be rewarded for spending money on the original game and its content. To be fair, he did say he like the original game though (unless I'm mistaken).

I was a little gobsmacked by that whole "or free copy, of the sequel" thing. Did people put blinders on and selectively ignore that part of the original post? Would any company stay in business if it gave away its newest product for free to customers, no matter how loyal they are?

It takes a long time and lots of money just to develop one game. Freebie items in the game might be a nice reward for loyal customers or maybe even the proposed tiny discount, but to actually suggest that we should get the brand-new sequel FOR FREE is daft. That aside, the OP seems to have a bit of a sense of entitlement, so maybe he shouldn't get anything at all. :P

What works for Reebok, Toyota or Microsoft in terms of discounts & whatnot probably doesn't work for a game developer either (even if they're a part of EA now), as I expect the profit margins might be a little tighter when one takes into account the market for used games and/or rentals. Do you think that Reebok has to deal with people buying, trading or renting used shoes? *snort* Plus, those companies mentioned in an earlier post turn out a lot of new product every year. That's not the case with game companies where you might get one game every two years or something. :P

As loyal fans, we don't deserve any kind of free content. Maybe some fixes to any issues remaining in the game *hint hint* :P, but free merchendise, no. What Bioware could maybe do is give long term fans some sort of sneak peak at coming material. I think that that would be a nice way to reward long time fans. But free games, DLC, etc, no.

Absofreakinglutely.  I would love to hear the conversation in the household of the average Bioware employee if they went this route.

"Hey honey, guess what?  The company decided to start putting out games, pro bono, just because!  So, they have made us all volunteers!"

I purchased Microsoft Points from Microsoft for years now, I demand they give me free microsoft points because I've been loyal to them.

I've gotten free microsoft points for renting a movie during some Horror Week or promotional event or w/e. I think it was like 160 points or something...

However, an item for importing decisions from Origins to DA2 would be welcome! Like some Grey Warden ring, necklace, or belt that Hawke finds while fleeing... or something...

Maybe, maybe not, but we have released free DLC to the Cerberus Network and held the occasional contest for free swag or store items. And there's always teh free swag we give away at conventions. I mean, it's not like we've never given away free stuff. But our entire business is making videogames. it would hardly make sense to give away our product just because you bought a previous product.

Maybe some fixes to any issues remaining in the game *hint hint* :P, but free merchendise, no.

We have also released free patches to our games. certainly not to everyone's satisfaction, but we've still done it.

What Bioware could maybe do is give long term fans some sort of sneak peak at coming material. I think that that would be a nice way to reward long time fans. But free games, DLC, etc, no.

We also do this, in the form of promo videos, our writers and designers talking about stuff, project leads like Mark Darrah and Mike Laidlaw and Dave Gaider talking about design philosophies and the development process and world lore. All on this free BioWare Social Network!

Am I missing anything? :)

Eh, off the top of my head, no.Posted Image

My main point was that old loyal fans don't shouldn't get free or exclusive game content that newcomers would have to pay for.

all I have to add is "Don't give them any ideas" The amount of trinkets and token gestures with the release of DAO and its cacophony of purchases incentives was down right irritating.

I just hope they keep the DA franchise lean and mean with some decent expansion content this time around. I know what the op is getting at but I did not let my nostalgic views of BioWare outmaneuver my better judgment. I did not purchase any more dlc after Wardens Keep. And I am decidedly reserved when considering DA2 as well due to BioWare shortening the shelf life of DAO. It should have shipped with a Best Before Date of Oct 2010.

There is a loyalty discount for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat on Steam if you own a previous Steam STALKER game, $10 off. So it has been done.

Call of Pripyat was released in February, 2010. Was the STEAM discount available before Call of Pripyat was released, or is it a current promotion?

that has nothing to do with the guys who made Stalker...thats like claiming that UbiSoft is giving you a discount on Assassins Creed 3 when you got it for a lower price at Gamestop because you own the previous 2 titles....thats a marketing campaign created by Gamestop...not by UbiSoft.
In your examples case its a marketing campaign of Steam...Stalker guys have nothing to do with it.

Ok, so I think some of you are getting the wrong idea because it's often hard to convey sarcasm and humor through typing. I'm not entitled to squat, and never thought I was. Yes, I purchased it all and no, it wasn't all worth purchasing, but you never know until you try it. Purchasing advanced copies of the Deluxe version got you Blood Dragon Armor, a memory band, soundtrack, etc. I was more wondering along those lines , or hoping to hear something along those lines.

Like I said at the bottom of my post, it never hurts to ask...hopefully. Lighten up, guys, a question like that is definitely not worth getting your panties in a bunch over. And yes, both Microsoft and Toyota have given away items in the past, though loyal car brand customers often do receive discounts for new cars. Relax, I was just commenting on a few add-ons, not promising to boycott the company because they're not 100 percent on every game release. I'll be picking up the sequel, anyway, but a little curiosity is not usually grounds for an amazingly explosive higher-than-thou response.

Quick addition - thank you to those of you who had the sense to understand what I was trying to convey, whether I used the right wording or not. The title of the post specifically says, "We may not deserve it, but it's worth a shot..." Anything's worth a shot, you never know until you ask.

Wait, seriously? All right, OP, I'll bite. Why do we owe you anything more after providing a product that you purchased and played? Why would we offer a discount or a free product when you complain you didn't like a previous product? in short, why would anyone but you agree to ant of this? what benefit do we get out of this?

specially when bioware feels that releasing a game not working properly for months on end (awakening) then releasing a patch that dosen't fix everything is acceptable...I doubt giving you more than you pay for is part of the bioware business model...

I want the OP to give his boss ten percent of his next paycheck.

After all, the OP has been an employee there, right? OP should reward his boss for allowing him to work. It's only fair, right?

They do.

Nike sponsors female marathon runners (hobbyists and not professional) and give them free shoes (my running club got 20 pairs) so that they serve as brand advocates as did Sketchers. Microsoft gave free copies of Windows 7 to influencers in the purchasing process. Toyota offered huge discounts to consumers buying their second Toyota though after their brake pedal scare I don't know how successful they were. Restaurants, clubs, anything that require consecutive purchases of the same service offer discounts to long standing consumers solely because in this economy the exit barrier is so darn low that companies are struggling just to maintain their base instead of going after new consumers. That is however a marketing decision and Bioware's to make.

That was not my point, either.

MY point was I don't think the OP was neccessarily asking for a discount or a freebie, but used them as examples of how loyalty may be rewarded, or some reward that is meant for long standing fans that is NOT accessible to those who are not as *proven*(like Bioware Bazaar may have been more geared towards popular people rather than long standing fandom). That is a fair question to ask, though as someone who did not buy all the DLC- I am SO going to miss out if you do.

One example of such a reward would have been the London event where long standing forumites were invited to play the game on a public forum. That is both rewarding long standing loyalty, and keeping it exclusive to long standing fans. Otherwise, everything else has been pretty much for *everyone*.

So, you have rewarded long standing fans before. Just not as frequently as some may like.

I also wanted to state that the OP expressed his desire politely, without any flamey, angsty sense of entitlement and it is unfortunate how some people reacted to his question.
