It looks nothing like WoW at all. Besides a few very basic tenets that run through all fantasy rpgs there is nothing similar between the two.

What was the point of bumping a thread that was dead and buried three weeks ago?

I think WoW invented Elves and Dwarfs, so DA definitely is a rip off there

Also there are spider monsters in several locations in WoW, which DA completely rips off too

You are definetly a youngster and new comer to this genre of gaming.  WoW didn't invent anything new from a game point or lore.  they took the best of what was already out there and just polished it up better.

You are new to the internet if you cant see the post was filled with sarcasm.

And lol really? DA=wow? I want w/e you guys are smoking because its seem to be good stuff.

The combat system is totally different. The lore is totally different. Pretty much everything is different except stample name of spell and ability which come from DnD(The father of all RPG). I found it hilarious though that they changed the mythical spell magic missile to arcane bolt lol.

As for the fanboy of wow, wow has its difficulty AKA their hardmode on high end content but the overall game has been so dumbed down that even a blind monkey could play.

Dragon Age and WoW are vaguely similar in gameplay and the theme of some of the class abilities, but as stated numerous times in this thread that's common amongst basically any combat-oriented RPG. What some people are stating, though, is that the seemingly obtuse parallels run a little deeper than that, such as with the actual mechanics of the abilities and combat itself, to which I definitely agree.

However, the comparison to WoW isn't a bad thing, and it's definitely not as dumb a statement as people in this thread seem to be making it. Reading some of these responses, the OP might as well have compared Mother Theresa to Hitler. To think that such impotent nerdrage could flare up just at the mention of World of Warcraft is pretty laughable, but taking it a step further is the weird superiority complex I'm seeing in several people--the holier-than-thou spin on anti-WoW sentiments. Really?

It's a game. Lots of people like it. Maybe you don't. But if you don't like WoW, and you don't like people talking about WoW, maybe you shouldn't click on a topic concerning WoW just to vent your seething spite for something you just don't enjoy.

The problem is that it is a silly comparison, then again people are comparing this to Fallout 3 as well. I'm pretty positive there's a Fallout 3 vs WoW thread somewhere on the internet. It's just so annoying to read it everywhere you go honestly.

It's like people are not grasping all rpgs are built on similar basic structures. We all have skeletons, but are we all the same? No.

The thing about forums is that you don't have to read anything you don't want to, and thus can save yourself the annoyance.

As far as being different despite having skeletons? We're 98% genetically identical to chimpanzees and 95% genetically identical to rats. We're not the same, but when the difference is so very minute as to be nearly unnoticeable...

D@D ---> WoW --> DA:O

"Omg DA:O looks so much like WoW!" well.... if u look at it this way, you can also say that WoW looks like D@D.

This topic fails. It reminds me of a guy who claimed that LOTR took their entire plot from WoW.....

Try and google the topic before ya post :P

DA:O is like Fallout 3 and CoD:MW2 because they all have dogs that you kill.

Also, there is no multiplayer in any of them. ICE. BURN.

I like how the posters here have a fanatical hate of World Of Warcraft, and then accuses the WoW players of seeing WoW everywhere.

the only time I was reminded of WoW in DA:O was Orzimmar (sp)..it reminded me of a mix of Ironforge and Blackrock Depths

I think most people just get upset at the assumption by most people who make posts like this that all things begin and end with WoW when in reality they do not. There are only so many original ideas a game can have and WoW like any other game borrowed most of theirs from past ones and attempted to improve upon them.

well WoW is nothing but one big bite-off various other games..mashed together..given polish...dumbed down for casuals...

typical fantasy setting bit largely off Warhammer (which blizzard themselves admit too..even down to art-style.)

WoW stole its plot from Starcraft 2.

GAMES are like OTHER GAMES? Coincidence? I think not.

I think we're missing the fact that the development team for Dragon Age pre-dates WoW by many years and that WoW has similarities to many games/MMOs.

Though I do notice no one compares WoW's graphics to DA:O. =)

I see what you did there!

I honestly do not see how this thread is still alive. DA:O is just like solitaire, you know it has kings and queens and such. Just because staples in a genre of video game always appear does not make each game in that genre the same (some of them come pretty damn close tough). Now I got to think of a more outragous similarity between DA:O and a pokemon game...

A part of me dies everytime I see this game compared with WoW. Because these traits are those that are common with ALL RPGs.

But for some gamers, WoW is the only RPG (I use the term 'rpg' sparingly here - after all its a MMORPG) they have ever played. So they believe any RPG made after WoW is based on WoW. Forevermore.

And considering the quality of WoW, it is truly heart wrenching. WoW helped bring countless gamers into MMO gaming and just like McDs and KFC, truly demolished the integrity of PC gaming forever. Congrats Blizzard.

You break up any number of games and you are able to dissect pieces of information that are similar or even damn near the same. The basics of characters, talents, skills, stamina etc. have all been around a lot longer than DA:O or WOW. There were concepts and games before 2004. In fact, it could be said that WOW is more like games before it, and therefore by association DA:O is more like games released in the early / mid 90's. Just a thought.

Blizzard themselves have said that WoW has basically taken some of the best parts of other MMO's and just basically refined them. I play WoW still and I say the currency system in Dragon Age seems well different. In WoW you get gold so easy in DA the value of one gold well is huge. With 5 gold/sovereign you can make a bunch of potions or poultices in WoW 5g is nothing.

Dragon Age has just as many similarities and if you're going to make claims like "the development team for Dragon Age pre-dates WoW by many years" you should probably check your facts beforehand.

Dragon Age has been around since 2003 or so. World of Warcraft has been around since at least 2001.

Exactly... ? Both WoW and DA belongs in the RPG category, but they are not similar enough to draw reasonable parallels, they are not even in the same category of RPGs.
