The pyro won't spawn if you're fast enough.

I don't ever trust it though since Pyros are basically insta-kills if you don't see them.

Especially that one.  That one pyro kills me more reliably than the Collector platforms (or any other stereotypically difficult part of the game).  I think Archangel's recruitment mission is probably the hardest mission in the game for me.

That damn vorcha with the flamethrower makes closing the shutters a very difficult task. Suscribed to your channel, Huckebein :) I love watching different class playthroughs.

I'm always wary of going head to head against Pyros at close range, even as a Vanguard. XD  Yep, I was under the impression that if you head through that corner fast enough, that Pyro wouldn't be there, but I'm not certain if that's the case entirely every time, so I always cover to check first.  On that video though, the Pyro is still passing through the corridor at 1:57.

(Thanks BTW disconnect7, jlb524).

RE: Build topic - As Lazuli, Bozorgmehr and Sinosleep has suggested, AoE version of rank 4 Engr defense stripping techs are a much prefered variety.  The heavy alternatives does have an AoE about less than a half radius than the area version counterparts, though the targets has to be really clustered together to pull off a multi-hit (so far, the most I've hit with one normal/rank 4 heavy tech attack are two targets).  I tend to switch to either Attack Drone or Explosive Drone pre-mission, although I have to say that the Attack drone does function more efficiently with its added ability than the Explosive Drone when it comes to drone spamming.  Either way, the main thing I sought for in regards to the Combat Drone is its electric shock attack recharge time being reduced to 3.00 seconds at rank 4.  Tech mastery specialization is the first thing to build up for when leveling up from scratch, and Demolisher is the one to opt for when relying heavily on defense stripping techs.  1 rank investment on Cryo Blast is useful enough to immobilize miscellaneous flunkies refusing to go down easily, if not used for a much more satisfying finisher.  Bonus power is a toss up depending on the player's preference.  I'm inclined to switching between three bonus powers at the moment: GSB for defensive purposes; Flashbang or Neural Shock for CC.  I might be using Energy Drain at some point also.

That corner is kinda of a question mark every time.  I never know how 'fast' is fast enough.

wow! so much violence.... I'm starting to look at the Katana with different eyes.

I bought Fraps last month and still figuring out this making vid thing... vdub has too many options....
Processing and uploading is a pain. It makes me appreciate more than before all the work you guys have been doing all this time.

Anyway, I managed to process this vid with some decent quality . I know this has already been covered. I apologize for it. But since it's there...

Garrus recruitment - Closing the shutters

I'm using Evi. Miranda and Jacob as squaddies. Yup, fire for up close kills...

What happened to that Krogan? Never seen anything like that, never knew Krogan had some vibes too

Cool video, I think my SG engineer is going to recruit Garrus next; those vids will come in handy. I'm still not sure which shotty to take. There's plenty of armor around (Evi), but many shielded enemies as well (Katana). Too bad the weapons locker can only be used once (closing the shutters). Any thoughts?

Interesting!  I went with the sniper rifle with my engineer to give her some reach but you play the shotgun totting version well!

I  still don't understand why the engineer is so underrated.  Incinerate and overload are awesome and the drone is an excellent tool IMO.

Gotta love the OHKO's with the evi. Katana might be better suited if you want to shoot+melee, but I like a little overkill with my shotguns

@ huckebein & ]jwalker  NICE JOB !!!

Ok I am looking for a good CC Shotgun Engie build. At first I was going to go pure Caster with AI Hacking and Dominate as specialties but I feel I'd have a lot more fun with a shotgun and leave Hacking/Dominating as secondary focuses.

Was thinking something like this as a general build:

Overload: R2

Incinerate: R4 (Blast)

Combat Drone: R4 (Explosive)

Cryo Blast: R4 (Full Blast)

AI Hacking: R2

Tech Mastery: R4 (Demolisher)

That's 46 points. I am choosing to specialize in CC and finishing enemies, relying on squadmates for defense stripping. Send out a drone, squadmate strips enemies and then I Cryo > Incinerate them while using my SMG/Shotguns to finish.

AI Hacking and Dominate for occasions that call for some extra hands.

Of course I would ReSpec and manipulate these powers for Organic and Synthetic heavy missions but I am liking this build.

Can anyone see any problems?

Thanks.

I use Evi for two reasons.
1) prejudice towards the Katana, 2) I think Evi does a little better outside point blank range. Sometimes you need to shoot something before you get really close, and switching weapons is a pain. Anyway, Huckebein  has no trouble at all using Katana.

Another vid.

Nice vid, good to see there's still some love for the Shuriken, I think it's somewhat underrated these days.

I did Garrus' RM using the Katana. I used Zaeed's squad Disruptor Ammo like Huckebein, perfect combination for this mission; LOKI's armor is weak and the overload effect really helps against their health. Only Bloodpack are harder, used Carnifex (and Mordin) for those parts. Maybe I replay the mission with the Eviscerator too.

Yeah, only the 2nd part of the mission (shutters) you really want incendiary, but the first and third is pretty much shielded enemies. Disruptor really comes in handy.
Anyway, I like fire for CC and  looks;) and I like having the ability of warp explosions. That's why I took Jacob and Miranda

jwalker - Simply put, awesome work displaying an Incinerate oriented build with Evi & Neural Shock. :)  I got serv'd from that Krogan b-boy move. :P  Keep up the vids!  The quality looks okay to me, btw.

Bozorgmehr & fegede - Thanks! Sounds like you've already plowed through Garrus' recruitment mission Boz, and yep, I was going to recommend having Zaeed along for the Squad Distruptor when possible, which you've done so already.  :)

X-Frame - The build sounds good.  You may have to experiment on which Tech Mastery suits your build best.  On paper, while R4 Incinerate benefits more as a Demolisher (with 15% power damage boost), your R4 Cryo Blast R2 AI Hacking, and Dominate will get extra duration bonus as a Mechanic.  Although with only a 15% duration boost, you'll probably get more or less than a second on both aforementioned Engineer techs, and approximately 1.3 to 1.8 second bonus on a R4 Dominate.  Also, Incinerate deals damage over time, but I'm not entirely sure whether a duration bonus enhances that.

I'm currently going through Horizon at the moment, and here's the first part:

See, that's where my old Engineer's run strategy was different.  I used my Engineer's powers for defense stripping, so I wanted my whole squad to be using ammo for crowd control plus quicker death.  I prefer Squad Incendiary ammo over Squad Disruptor for Garrus's recruitment because most of the enemies are organics (and there just so happens to be quite a bit of armor too).  I went this route mainly because through my playthrough it just seemed Overload would remove more of a Blue Suns Trooper's shields than Incinerate did their health, as an example.  The powers seemed better at one-shotting defenses than one-shotting health.  Of course my Engineer didn't have a shotgun (wish now he did); don't know how that would of impacted my chosen strategy.

And that's the great thing about Mass Effect, you can approach each playthrough with a different yet still successful strategy.  That plus the much smoother combat, is what has sky-rocketed ME2's replayability for me personally over ME1's (through I do find the first's plot superior).

My god... right in the first fight you take on I'm already thinking this is some of the ballsiest shotgun-charging combat I've seen in a ME2 video, and you don't even need the Vanguard's pansy 100% shield recharge per rush! (btw, i <3 vanguards, lol)  I am now thinking how completely different this was from how I ended up playing my own Engineer through insanity, despite the fact that at the time I had originally wanted to develop an Engineer that played like this... but when my early attempts failed, I just took the Viper.  I realize now that I never utilized the Combat Drone to it's full potential.  I always just casted it on an enemy I intended to forget about, instead of using it to set up awesome cqc flanks.  That's probably why I ended up taking Neural Shock as my bonus power; I needed a quick cooldown power that staggered/stunned an enemy and Incinerate/Overload were too slow.  Had I just keep recasting Drone, it would of done much of what I used Neural Shock even better.  You took Geth Shield Boost as a bonus power, makes sense with all the shotgunning, and yet you didn't even need to use it to do all that.  Hell if anything you could of had rank 1 Armor Piercing ammo instead on yourself, killed those Collectors even faster, and still had the same squad (unusual choice in Garrus for a Collector mission, but you sure made use of Concussive Shot.  what about Grunt, he'd have that and Squad Incendiary?)

I picked up Mordin first (used Dominate almost exclusively; get yourself a good spot > Dominate a Pyro, Rocket trooper or Krogan > sit back and watch them wreck havoc); Kasumi's LM next (didn't went particularly well, really have to get used to those drones); Garrus' RM was next and your vids really helped. I used Mordin to handle armor and Zaeed's Disruptor Ammo is great for this mission (I replayed the entire mission using Incediary ammo like jwalker. Both work nicely, but I think I prefer Disruptor (though I might try it again with Jacob and Zaeed so I can use both B) )

I'm currently going through Horizon at the moment, and here's the first part:

You make it look easy; I hope to get close to your abilities with drones sooner rather than later (there's still a long to go though). Some really cool flanking moves; this vid would be a nice addition to OniGanon's Invasive Maneuvers Guide

I'm interested why you took Garrus (I would go for Grunt  if you fancy Concussive Shot like Simbacca suggested); but you're not the type chosing squadmates randomly, so there must be some reason ... well I think I just wait for the next vid to find out. ;)

Well put. Couldn't agree more. ME2 replay value it great; after countless playthroughs you still find new ways to play.

I am enjoying this much more than my Assault Sentinel. Much more aggressive.
