Shotgun Engineers, who loves em? (updated 12/14)

My god, I tore through those collector platforms! Charging and shotgunning was as heart pumping as my Vanguard, maybe moreso since an Engineer has no 100% shield regen per charge. I must say, though I don't use it too much with other classes, I love the Scimitar on an Engineer.
My squad was Jack (2 Shockwave, 1 Pull, Primal Adept, Squad Warp Ammo) and Thane (Throw Field, Unstable Warp, 2 passive). My femshep had Incineration Blast, Attack Drone, 3 Cryo Blast, Demolisher, and 1pt GSB. The warpbombing Jack and Thane provided really help with staggering enemies will my Engie was in close. The Squad Warp Ammo plus the Scimitar decimated the Collectors. Incineration Blast and Cryo Blast were the great finishers they always are.
I wish I could have recorded it (360)...

Tonight to continue with the experiment, I reloaded the DCS again. Same squad, same skills, just not the Scimitar. I took what I originally thought would have been the most obvious shotgun choice for the Engineer, but didn't want to try for fear of it being too easy... and it was. With the GPS, I made such short work of those platforms it was kind of dumb. It's a great gun, but just a little too great for my liking lately.
So I will be continuing on with my Scimitar Engineer (though i might reload with Jacob instead of Jack to see how Squad Incendiary does versus the Squad Warp platform runs) here and there between my 2nd Vanguard run and my Widow Soldier. *edit* tried it with Jacob instead of Jack last night; it was better with Jack. Squad Incendiary ammo's crowd control is nice, but i already had enough of that between Incineration Blast, Cryo Blast, and Warpbombs. Better to strip barriers faster with Squad Warp ammo to utilize those powers faster.

Mordin's loyalty mission
After Horizon, I went straight to Canalus (the N7 mission) because there's the 3rd damage protection upgrade, which unlocks Hard Shields for Shepard. I always do that with every class. It really helps your survivability. Then Jack's LM and then Grunt's. Jack's mission is kinda boring, I won't make a vid. But I don't know about Grunt's. His mission is fun to play, probably not fun to watch. I you want, I can load a save a make a vid too.
So, for Mordin's I had 4 shotgun upgrades (the ammo upgrade too).
This is the first time I used the GPS for an entire mission (I bought the DLC when it was released:whistle:) I never got the 'feel' of a shotgun with it. Still don't.
That's a problem for me. Yes, it's a great weapon (took some getting used to though), its range is insane and the charging up thingy is really cool. But I don't know if I'm going to keep using it. I just wanted to try it at least once.
As a side note, I recorded the entire mission twice (died a couple of times before that) : Krogan boss at the end wouldn't spawn... I don't know why... There won' be a third.
So, now I have one more mission before heading out to the Disable Collector Ship. This is getting interesting...

Although for Krogan would have been nice a rank 2. With rank 1 wears off really fast. Can't wait to try the AoE version ...

You're using the GPS and Scimitar, never tried those myself but you've proven their usefulness
Are you going for the Claymore on the CS? Should be nice, remember you can use powers to end the reload animation too (like melee) and Engineers should be able to use either NS or CD between every shot (fully upgraded cd bonus). I didn't have time to proceed with my (still unfinished) SG Engineer and I've just received TIM's call to investigate the CS; Claymore it is for me I think.
Looking forward to your next vid.

I'm really coming to appreciate the engineer's support role, and i believe i'm leveling and allocating points pretty well with him. After checking up on the me wiki, i've decided to go with the medic specialization once hackett gives me the rogue vi assignment.
After i've completed my engineer run and imported to me2, i was thinking along the lines of going assault engineer ( assault rifle ) , but i've considered shotguns as well ( sniper too, to be honest, though less likely ) . While i've read through most of this thread, are there any specific tips for which training/gun model i should go with?

GPS... For Samara's mission I just forgot to change the loadout. I don't like it much. It's a damn good weapon though. No question about it. But it just doesn't feel like a shotgun. Honestly, and I know this sounds silly, but 'pew pew' from the GPS vs. the pummeling beats of the Scimitar unloading round after round, I prefer the latter.
The Scimitar is by far my prefered shotty. I use it with my Vanguards and Sentinels.

Well, already went there and yes, took the claymore... and kinda got crazy and make a full run of the mission with 3 different shotguns. GPS, Scimitar and the new baby.
This time, like Simbacca suggested, I took Jack instead of Jacob. Her warp ammo made those barriers go down real fast. Thankfully, I was able to max out her passive too. Only rank 1 of Pull (stupid Shockwave requirement), but incredibly useful. Saved my butt a lot times.
So, GPS was the easiest, specially on the platforms.
Scimitar, some close calls but I'm used to it with that weapon.
Claymore... omg... that took some serious hurting. Truth is, I kinda suck at the reload trick (didn't know I could use either melee or power). I think is distractive for me, I mean, in the middle of the mayhem waiting to hear the 'click' and press melee. I admire you guys pulling that one off naturally.
Anyway, I have all the footage for the 3 runs (my HD hates me right now, I can feel it). I still dont know which one will upload.

Yeah - it is especially annoying when I was trying to hear the "click" when Harby is talking and/or when Shep is groaning on fire.
Later, I look at the reload animation instead of listening for the click - The moment Shepard starts to lower the Claymore after bringing it up for reload is when you can hit melee to fire immediately. After a week or two doing that, I think most players will be able to gauge the timing in their head.

Yeah the GPS is a somewhat weird weapon compared to the other shotties. I don't like the 'feel' neither; a true SG goes BOOM not 'pew' - however, I think the GPS fits the Engineer's profile perfectly; a weapon used purely for its effectiveness in combat, not something big and nousy which is favored by most grunts. An Engineer doesn't mind being 'uncool', he or she will judge weapons on their performance not the aestetics.

Reload trick is pretty easy, that is if you're patient. Remember: 'good things come to those who wait' - once you get the timing right it becomes almost instinct; problem is, once you're face to face with guys like Harbinger, you want to shoot sooner rather than later. Don't! Wait for the 'click' (or like Ashwind mentioned the SG animation) and you'll be fine. A good way to practice the reload trick is next to a weapon locker (they provide unlimited ammo) and shoot the wall. A couple of minutes tought me the basics and after that its like riding a bike ...

Why not make a compilation of all the cool moves. That's what I did with most vids. I usually (re)played a mission/fight a couple times and used the best footage for the vid.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to your CS video - Cheers

That's a good idea, but it's more work than I anticipated.
I will keep uploading vids (otherwise my HD will explode) ;.)
I uploaded the GPS 'version', it was the most efficient tbh. But I will make a mix with the Scimitar and Claymore runs there. Let's see what I can come up with.
Disable collector ship
At 0:28 I cast a drone on the mobile scion. It was an instant kill. Go Chitika
I don't know what happened. Obviously a glitch, a funny one. In subsequent tries, with the claymore, it happened again. Didn't keep the footage 'coz I died.
I'm not sure what happens, but when you cast the drone on the scion when the platform moves, things get strange, like the the platform, instead of moving, teleports to its next location.
Oh, I'm a terrible shot, I missed a lot with the GPS, and yet the mission was easy with that weapon.... damn.

If you want another shep and don't want to play ME1 ==> masseffectsaves + [ masseffectfaces ] = instant ME1 lvl 60 import

hmmmmm, yes, I was tempted to do that....but I don't like "manufactured" Shepards. I prefer homemade ones, done with all the care and detail of my own hands (and extra sugarwell, pepper if renegade).
You're a better man than I. I like roleplaying as much as the next guy, but I don't think I'm EVER playing through ME 1 again, and I'm damned sure not going to do it for any new character I create. I either just come up with a reason for why my Shep would switch over (which honestly isn't very hard since most my Shep's make just as many paragon as renegade decisions) or I download a save. Just isn't worth the effort for me.

@GlobalStrike (re: training/gun model) - For which weapons training to opt for, that depends entirely on your playstyle. You'll have versatility in terms of range with assault rifles, whereas shotguns benefits you greatly when utilized at close range. Close combat as an Engineer requires more finesse and a tactical approach than brute force, given that the Engineer is not built to be like a tank that could take a great deal of punishment under normal circumstances (unless you'd spec him/her with a defense talent). As an Assault Engineer, you won't be hampering the use of your assault rifle if you're playing the support role behind cover from a significant range, and being the aggressor on the front line with an assault rifle is just as deadly as a Shotgun Engineer. As for which gun model to pick, the variety of shotguns in the game are well balanced, IMO. You have to try out each one to see which one suits you best (I've started out with the Eviscerator and Claymore whilst going through the Vanguard class, and then started to get a better handle of the other shotguns as I go through the Engineer playthrough). For assault rifles, the Mattock is considered to be one of the top tiers, or at least the most heavily favored, that's accessible early on through DLC.
Here are some fairly new videos of mine on Samara's recruitment. I'm starting to share the same sentiments as Simbacca on a Scimitar based shotgun engineer.
Illium Spaceport part 1
Illium Spaceport part 2
Illium Spaceport part 3
And here's a recent one up at Haestrom/Tali recruitment. I re-spec'd to focus on a puppet master centric build with R2 Drone, R2 Cryo, Mechanic (R4 passive talent), Area AI Hacking, and Area Overload. There was a brief inquiry about a build sort of like this on a few posts back. I thought this mission is a perfect time to test the spec out. Needless to say, I had a blast with this one.

I know that warp bombing is effective but I've been doing an awful lot of that on my vanguard which is why Mordin will becoming along practically regardless of mission on my engineer vids.
Any way, here is the vid
