Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has attempted to do this. :)

Many houses and inns as well as entrance halls to government buildings can typically have high ceilings. There are balconies in the toolset but it is a little bit silly that the upper level is squished down as the balconies are very low.

If however, a tileset like the Standard interior had an extra set with walls that were double the height so you could make grand halls etc. it would be pretty cool.

Is it possible/doable?

This sounds like a job for RWS! Go get the searchlight. I have this cool template to lay over it that will call them when we shine it in the night skydome.

(but I do believe it would be doable, yes.)

Cool. Chandigar did something like this for NWN1. So I thought it would be possible.

There is the walkmesh (z-axis) issue. He compensated by making one version where the bottom floor was walkable and a second version where the top floor was walkable. You could put two versions of the same room in the same area and just jump the players back and forth if you needed them to go upstairs or downstairs. Or you can just make below the balcony unwalkable.

Then again, maybe just leaving the room as is and letting the builder place the balcony/stairs and deal with the walkmesh could work.

RWS already did high interior ceilings with lots of exposed beamwork. I'm not sure they are two floor height though.

2 floor height can be made, but it will make the tileset a very deep set to play in. The chasms are basically two level but not in the same tile. Any balcony would have to have non walkable area under it, so the balcony can be walkable.

You can also make your own two level interiors. For instance, I used Cathedral + BCK2 to make a two level interior.

@ Kamalpoe and Hellfire: That reworked interior looks great! But there is no room for balconies.

@ Hellfire: What are the issues with having a deep set? I know about the balcony/walkmesh thing. Heck even if the wall are just doubled in height, I could manage with the NWN2 standard balconies. With a few tricks, I can keep the players away from under the stairs.

@ Curt Jester: No friggin' way! :D

I've already built oriental family compounds out of Nytir's Oriental set. I plan on making a whole city and a few towns out of it too. By that point, I won't have the sanity left for interiors as well. ;)

Just to give an example. I opened a random asian movie and of course, found an inn with balconies. This is what it looks like:
