I'm looking to reinstall and I wondered if there were any PW's out there with more to do beside hack and slash?
Like run a shop, or become a king or a cop?
Oh and if it's one of those deals where I have to join a forum and get permission before I make a drow character I don't even want to hear about it.

You can try Sea of Dragons. You can play a guard/soldier of the city or join other factions. There are several DM plots going and the players tend to make their own as well. Click the link on my signature.

P.S. No applications required.

Yes. A Game of Thrones. But the server is still being worked on. Bookmark the site in case you don't find anything you fancy. No applications. Just one rule.

I'll hasten to add that if you're not entirely into role-playing, don't even bother. ;)

Sea of Dragons uses the DMG guidelines for magic items. Considering that it is a low -to-mid level server you won't find that much magic power. You won't find a weapon higher than +2 on the server at the moment.

I like crafting too much for that. It's not you, it's me and my love for magic pants.

If you like crafting check out the midgard sever, midgardsaga.mine.nu/ .

Best items can be acquired via crafting only though it's still a mid-magic where +4/+5 are the highest level of enchantments.  As for professions you can easily be a merchant, obviously being a crafter helps with that.  You can also earn money through farming there are npc's to whom you can sell food for profit.   As for other professions usually that's not an issue but you'd probably have to arrange something with a dm (possibly through the forums).

Our player numbers are sadly low but we do we have intended to have PC's who manage a town's treasury (which earns gold automatically through taxes) and those pc's in turn can hire other players, but we need players for that *winks*.

Dasaria is your virtual table top.

Become a merchant if you like.  You can use our unique PC housing system to create and decorate your own shop.  We have close to 700 items for you to craft and sell.  You can go solo, join an existing merchant guild or create your faction.

If you want to become a cop, you can join the Cerulean Fleet and police the port city of Cear.  Arrest law-breakers and throw them in jail or take their bribes and send them on their way.  The choice is yours.

The crux of our campaign is a great war over control of the Empire.  Raise an army!  If you can destroy both Emperor Marcus and his Imperial legions and Canas the Risen's army of orcs and undead, you might become king.

Create and play any character you like.  You don't need our permission.  But your character's actions will have concequences (good or bad), so choose wisely.  Come make your mark!

Heh, looks like there's a lot of servers out there. Just need more players :-\\

I think it'd be great if we could get a few of these servers to come together and get steadier populations.

Particularly for those in the Faerun setting. But there's just too many differences of opinion with respect to style of play, rules, power, etc. for that kind of consolidation to ever happen.

No grinding isn't required.  We award XP for defeating monsters, overcoming traps and locks, completing quests and roleplaying.  We currently have 160 quests and 300 areas.  You can grind if you want.  But the easiest and most fun way to progress is to join a roleplaying party and go questing.
