You can use the console to go back to the plot flag where you first enter the Arl's Estate and make your way to that guard.

... Are you going to tell us how?

I have no problem using the console to fix this issue if someone would tell me what to do.

It is difficult to describe how incensed I am because of this issue. If someone could give me a solution that doesn't require me to revert to the save I made before I went to the landsmeet it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been unsuccessful in located the disguise script in the toolset, I was attempting to make a script to remove the disguise.

Edit:
Ok, my blood pressure has gone back to normal, I was able to fix the problem. Hopefully the script won't rear its ugly head in the future.

Explanation: I noticed that when transitioning from the estate interior to the dungeon you were switched to normal clothes, I simply did this then used the debug script (zz_den_debug) to warp directly back to Eamon's estate and found that I still had my normal clothes on. Note that I had to use the debug script to warp into the estate to be able to do this since it was no longer accessable after completing the quest.

I hope that is helpful to anyone with the a similar problem.

Edit2: WARNING: The debug script or some other script I used seems to have an affect on the party members' approval. The number stays the same but they are neutral to you even if you are at 100. You can fix this by removing and readding a large amount of approval points for the party member using the addapproval script:

runscript zz_addapproval X Y - X = Party# Y = Amount i.e runscript zz_addapproval 1 100 adds 100 approval to Alistair
1 - Alistair
3 - Morrigan
5 - Shale
6 - Sten
7 - Zevran
9 - Leliana

Hmm... what about for someone who has already past that whole section, including breaking out of jail and returning to the Arl's estate with the queen?

Ah, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I did this fix after I had already returned to Eamon's estate with the queen.

Naturally, doing this is at your own risk. I highly recommend making a new save after doing this so that you still have an untouched save game in case BioWare releases an official fix for this bug.

Here is what you need to do:
  • Use zz_den_debug script to warp to the interior of the Arl of Denerim's estate; or to a location that would allow you to get inside.
  • Enter the dungeon through the passage that was initially used to enter it, not the one used to exit.
  • Upon entering the dungeon the disguise was removed from myself and my party members, so I used the debug script to warp myself directly back to the Arl Eamon's estate. The disguised remained off.
  • Taking note of the warning from my previous post; you would need to fix your party members' approval by removing and readding 25 or so points. When doing this take note that they have received the proper skills from their approval points.

So I just ran into this bug myself. Not realizing that it happened I continued on and now way beyond being able to go back to an autosave to fix this. It has been 18 days of Bioware knowing about this but and nothing has been done. This is unbelievable, I expected better from Bioware. Well, it takes one bad experience....I won't play all those hours over. And I shouldn't have to do anything to fix it myself, it is not my responsibility.

I really haven't had the urge to play the game ever since the bug hit me. So I think I'm going to hold out and see if a fix is ever going to be made.

What upsets me most about this is that according to the codex this bug could not happen.

Disguised! [Entry #277]

Category: Controls
Disguises
will allow you to pass by most guards without being attacked. However,
many actions that draw attention (such as talking to ranking officers
or attacking someone) will blow your cover.

Your disguise will be removed if you enter combat. You can also choose to remove it by speaking to whoever gave you the costume.

Obtained:• Denerim (Arl of Denerim's Estate - Exterior) - Received after donning Erlina's disguises
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess it's to simple to patch so that Erlina could remove the disguise like the game is supposed to according to this. I'll go on to somthing else for a while and check back for a fix. If not, I'll simply uninstall the game completely. I guess what really bothers me is Bioware is developing SWTOR...a game HIGHLY anticpated by not only me but many SWG refugees. If this is how they handle a bug it may be a game I will just have to pass on. Truely sad, it showed such potential. I guess those rejects from SOE that ruined SWG had to get jobs somewhere.....     :(

@CalvinT1987: lol how's your exam going?

I didn't have this problem, but I have problem getting my equipment back after 'captured' quest.

I have a save just before landsmeet and I went back to that again. The rescue queen quest is actually a good one, it is a shame that BioWare screw it up with the disguise bugs.

All my saves when I realized the armour wasn't removeable were after I had come back up from the dungeon. The only partial work around I found was to let the two other party members who were with me on the quest come rescue me. Those two (and only those two) get "new" (thankfully removeable) disguises when they come back for you. There is no way to remove the armour on you and whoever gets locked up with you. It gets reequiped when you are rescued.

Unfortunately the chestpieces are the only things removed. Boots and gloves stay on and whatever you were wearing before is not returned to inventory. It did serve to get Morrigan out of the platemail she was wearing however.

I was able to finish the game after that but I would still like to see this patched so it doesn't happen to others.

Having the same wonderful bug. My last save is back in ozrammar, 20 hours previous. I have the autosave from just after completing the dungeon, and tried going to the guard messing around with the servant, but this failed to remove the armour.

Tried using the zz_economizer, worked fine for removing my stuff (and improving my inventory space) but still no sign of my old crap, even after getting caught by that naughty guard again.

Following up on Invernus Moon's solution, here is what I did to fix it just now:

(Here's where I started. I completed the "Captured!" quest and had just returned to Anora and Eamon for the first time. Still in disguise...)

1. Ran game in developer's mode (if you don't know how to do this look online)

2. Went outside of the estate and selected the disguised people to be my party. (Don't start from inside, otherwise you are alone)

3. Typed "runscript zz_den_debug"

4. Chose "Warp to Plot Point"

5. Next chose "Warp to Arl's Estate after Howe died."

6. Walked to original dungeon entrance. (In my case, to get the dungeon I walked through the room where you get captured in the first place. All of Loghain's guards and Ser Catheryn were there along with Anora...but none of them attacked. Also - in one of my previous attempts at this, she DID attack and its the hardest fight ever, and you can't continue with this unless she is defeated.)

7. When I went through the dungeon, it looked like nothing happen, though when I checked my inventory, the guard's uniforms were there; which was odd considering all my characters were still wearing it.

8. I left that entrance and went through it a second time. This time, I was still wearing the disguise but when I checked my inventory, the disguises were gone from the backpack, and in their place was all of my regular armor which had previously disappeared. I still couldn't equip it though.

9. I left the entrance and went through a THIRD time, and this time all of my characters came through naked. I then opened my inventory and equipped the armor they required.

10. I ran the console again, and typed "runscript zz_den_debug"

11. I chose "Warp to plot point" followed by "Rescue and Captured! completed."

12. I was back to the right point in the story, I was out of disguise, and ready to go!

In Invernus Moon's case, the party ratings got messed up. In my case, they didn't. Double check his previous post if this happens to you.

Otherwise, I hope this helps!!!!

I can't believe this game was shipped with this bug. How hard could it be to give the disguise elf some dialogue options in the room back at Arl Eamon's?!?!
EA is notorious for their insane crunch times but you would think that EA would have outsourced your QA to (i.e. Aspyr etc) or similar gaming Q/A firms.
I'll bet 1000 sovereigns that this part wasn't developed in Bioware:Austin.
The game should lose 10 points on any review because of this one issue. Unbelievable.

-----------------------------------------
Edited again 13 hours later.
After coming back to this I'm not angry.  But I still stand by that this bug is unacceptable and needs to be addressed in someway.   Overall Dragon Age, warts and all is still one of the most enjoyable video game I've played.  I've been trying to get over it but its stolen all of my free time for weeks now. And I definitely feel I have gotten my money's worth even though I'm not done with my first campaign/runthrough.

That said is there a reason this can't be easily fixed with a kludge like a toolkit mod with an NPC at Arl Eamon's or Camp?  Wouldn't the easiest fix be just to allow the player to unequip the armor like all the others.  A lesser of two evils if the bug was one could exploit the diguise than get a this gamebreaker. Especially since characters were wearing DLC content.

Looking back I might have had Miasma on and Lifeward on another character. My Morrigan always casts Waking Nightmare too... so I must have cast AoE's but it wasn't behind a wall or any trickery involved just normal gameplay.

OH to fix the issue I had to go to the "Romantic guard" upstairs before killing Arl Howe. to get UNDISGUISED.. it seems after he's dead you'll have to do what others have posted above with the warping scripts.

Well, this is absurd. Sounds like I was luckier than some, I was able to restore a save after killing the Arl but before the encounter with Ser Cathryn and the guard with the maid removed my disguise. I lost only an hour or so instead of my entire game.  This was an autosave point (returning from the dungeon to the main floor after killing the arl.)  Perhaps a few others can restore to this point and get their gear back.  Good luck.

So...after giving it some time to calm down (and seeing that Bioware is NO HELP), I decided to fix it with some of the tips here. I really enjoyed the game so far and wanted to finish it without having to replay the 57 hours I put in so far.

I didn't have any luck until I tried the advice form KarmicToast, however I had to warp to inside the estate. When I did it after Howe died, everytime I would enter the dungeon I would get another set of guard disguise armor in my inventory. After 12 sets of armor in my inventory I decided to try different things until I just warped to "inside the estate". It took 3 tries as well but I got everything back and lost no approval from party members.

Although I am now back to playing the game and enjoying myself I still feel that this bug is inexcusable. Bioware needs to address this and make the disguise work as it states in the codex.

KarmicToast's guide didn't help, but using his advice I played around until I found what worked for me.

I chose to go back to the dungeon instead of the point after Howe died.
Upon zoning I turned right back around and went to the room I skipped with the maid "servicing" the guard.
I triggered the CS and wah lah armor removed!
Warped back to where I was, rescue and captured completed, double checked the arl and the queen and I was back in business.

<3 Developer's Console.

PS Party affection wasn't affected.

Seems like everyone needs to find their own fix using others experiences. I also want to warn people that the bug can come back. After I "fixed" the bug and continued...As soon as I stepped back in to Arl Eamon's (after playing for a few hours) the guard disguise armor was back on me and my primary group. Although some players can get past this....Bioware needs to address it and fix it!!!! Bioware is developing an MMORPG highly anticipated by many and can't even manage the bugs here, does not look good. Hope these guys get their act together. I plan to finish this game but will hold off on any other Bioware game until I see something happen here. I just don't understand it....I've never seen such lack of response with them.

The fact that this bug was not addressed in patch 1.02 basically ensures that this game goes to the junk pile for me.

Gee, I wonder if I get an achievement icon for "eternal guard armor" or something like it. A rogue and mage walking around in guard armor for the rest of their days is not a pretty site. By the way. After reading some of Bioware's official remarks on this in other places on these boards, I find it VERY hard to believe that they're having trouble creating a fix for this. C'mon. Really? They created Dragon Age.

So... yeah I'm yet another person who is afflicted with this bug.

I've been playing for the past 4 hours after the jail breakout and wondered when the hell I was gonna be able to finally take off this crappy armor!

So I log off for the night and discover: whoops... I can't.

Of course I have absolutely no save files from so long ago and I don't want to have to do the debug suggested and go all the way back to fix it.

Sigh... I guess I'll be going to be switching to easy difficulty for the rest of the game. Seriously BioWare... What the ****?

Hmm same here, got the armor bug, but still finished the game, in the crap armor.

I accepted morrigans offer for life, but now nothin to do anyway, cant even finish any unfinished quests as the journal clears after killing the arch demon. Great game, let down by a lil bug, and some lack of thought on what ya gonna do when main story finished, Downloadable stuff was laughably short. END GAME i guess

Woot! Jumping to the plot point inside the castle worked. Going into the dungeon several times failed but, talking to the soldier in, I think it was the "x" labeled "Vaughn's Room", removed all four disguises and put me in combat. I immediately went back to where I was (Landsmeet) and had all my original armor in my inventory. The hardest part was finding how to open console mode. I found it here: http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Console

What a ****ing disaster. Well, regardless of what i've tried, none of the solutions in this thread, even using the economizer has successfully removed the disguises from all of my party members (yes that's right, the economizer script somehow managed to remove them from me and morrigan, but neither wynne nor alistair).

At this point i've given up and just started the entire quest line over. Talk about frustrating. I'm sad to say that i've played a boatload of bioware games, many with bugs in them which have ****ed up my progress, but this one really does take the cake, particularly with regard to the lengths users have to go to to fix it.

I'm disappointed, and have to say that my opinion of Bioware has diminished. :(
