I have reached the two quest-givers in-game which offer the option of purchasing additional content, but they require a mysterious quantity of "points" rather than a credit card.

Exactly where would such "points" be obtained either in the game or in the real world?   I have discovered the main menu option of entering a code, but even there no mention is made of where one would get the code by purchase or otherwise.

Ah, nvm...i found it.  You can reach the purchase page by clicking on the "add points" button at the bottom of the code page.   Rather convoluted though.
