One of the most annoying things about ME2 combat, grunting and all that red garbage on my screen.

you mean the Near Death Effect?

How else would you want it? Black edges, time slowing.... ??

I could stand for it being a bit less intrusive, but I like that it's there.

That's part of the game. When you're near death, you can't focus too well because you're in pain. Vein effect, blackout, blur, lack of  directional control --- any of these would be a fair penalty for getting hit, and they're feedback that have direct relation to the circumstance. In ME1, the only feeback on your damage was your health stat, and the experience of looking at that while fighting was the equivalent of doing math while having sex.

I agree that it looks like crap, but it is useful having a clear indication of being near death.

ME1's indicator wasn't that bad. You didn't have to look at your health bar, the game made your condition obvious in other ways.

I thought COD4's near death effect was nice and unintrusive, unlike MW2's.

Actually, the game already has a good effect - the colours become more washed out, your vision becomes fuzzy and sounds become muffled. They didn't need to stick all these weird vein JPEGs around the screen aswell :P

I was thrown off it by first with all the vein-age but it's not bad. I don't mind it. It's a clear way of telling you to "stop sucking." So I don't mind it. Keeps me from being too much of an idiot when playing.

Such as not being able to aim/snipe. No thanks.

What would be nice is if they removed the horrid, nay, wretched vignette effect from the game altogether. Harshes on massive screenshots man.

I don't mind some red on the edge of the screen, but it is a bit intrusive.

Yeah, depending on the game difficulty and the class you play as, the effect can be up all the time.  I'm just hoping there is at least an option to turn it off on ME3.

Yeah. When it gets to the point where you're having difficulty seeing targets it gets a bit silly.

id rather we loose the health bars and keep the viens. or something similar to the viens for ME3.

health bars are stupid. one of the main things ill remember from ME2s combat are the colors blue, yellow, and red. personally i think thats a really bad thing.

I'd prefer washed out colours, blurry vision, increased weapon shake and the odd bit of blacking out. Or maybe when you get really badly hurt a voice alert (from the armour) or warning message on your HUD telling you to seek cover and medical attention immediately. But I guess for the classes that go Rambo a lot and are nearly always injured and taking fire then it would rather screw things up. I'm more used to shooters where if you go rambo you die...every time.

I've never been a fan of the health bar thing for enemies as it breaks immersion for me, but how else could you tell an enemies health, armour or shield status? Don't mind one for the player and squad as that strikes me as being something your HUD would display.

I'd vote for the ability to toggle it on/off. For some classes it's too annoying, like AntiChri5 said for the vanguard.

you show an enemies health by them being alive or dead. what other shooters out there have health bars? i dont want to see anything on the screen that doesnt need to be there. bioware HAS to get rid of the rock paper sissors aspect of combat in order to remove the health bars tho, and i dont see them doing that at all.

The enemy health bar ( plus protections ) is a critical part of the game. You know what to use on who and what not to use. All the strategy is based on that. Its not real life - its a video game, and that fact that we are still playing it 9 months after launch is evidence that its a good system.

what if they got rid of the rock paper scissors aspect and just made it rock?

or maybe theyll add even more to that equation in ME3. thatd be the opposite of awesome.

For casted powers the visual cues seem sufficient enough, but I guess I could see what is meant with firing guns.

For example, there could be a more obvious cue when firing on a protected enemy, if the bars are removed...

Such as firing on shields / barriers, there could be a deeper blue / purple color, and a more obvious chaotic kaleidoscope effect from the kinetic / biotic barrier knocking away projectiles. Or a more pronounced sound hitting armor. But what's there already seems fine and you can argue that that info of the enemy is part of the HUD.

One last thing, the bars help with conserving ammo, knowing how much more to keep shooting or when to use a power to finish off some enemies, so how ammo is handled would also have to change...
