World of Warcraft : I'm not a fan of MMO's. I am a fan of Warhammer. I'm not a fan of cutesy. WoW just fails for me on many levels, but if there's anything close to "hate" I might have for it, it is only the sense that many other MMO's get dismissed because of the popularity of WoW (but I don't like MMO's in general, so there's nowhere near the passion needed for "hate".)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 : It's a FPS. I'm not a fan of FPS games. No hate, just disinterest.
Star Wars (fans used to get called nerds when it first came out, from what I've heard): Fans of anything niche are usually considered "nerds" or "geeks" by the mainstream majority, though super-heroes and sci-fi are pretty close to mainstream now. Anycase, I've never been a big fan of Star Wars - I think the whole Jedi concept is hackneyed and poorly executed. The first film was great, would have been awesome if it had stopped there. The prequel trilogy was a travesty of filmmaking with a humongous budget. These films were so bad I needed some
catharsis.
Star Trek: Close to the same thoughts as Star Wars, save even the worst Star Trek tv series or movie was worlds better than Phantom Menace, Clone Wars the cartoon or the Ewok Adventures. Newest Star Trek movie was pretty awesome, IMO. Overall I can take or leave Star Trek.
Stargate Universe: I really like Stargate Universe. I didn't enjoy SG-1, and found the original movie passable, but I really liked Atlantis. Universe, for me, is a more enjoyable show than BSG ended up being. I know, heresy.
Twilight: Ugh, ok, here I'm guily if I let myself be honest. Fundamentally I would defend a writer's right to make their own universe with its own rules, write to their audience, and say "if you don't like it, don't read it." I look at the explosion of "paranormal romance" though and just see how much worse the "women wanting men who are bad for them" phenomenon gets when you make them fall for MONSTERS. As much as I enjoyed their work, I blame Anne Rice and Joss Whedon for screwing up the vampire mythos - opening the door, if you will, for the soap opera romance of Twilight and Vampire Diaries and the like. Really, as much as I can joke with others that "vampires don't sparkle!" I should just let this go and not be a hypocrit.
But, honestly, I hate Twilight something fierce.
Warhammer: I like Warhammer quite a bit.
Warhammer 40,000: I like the 40K computer games (Dawn of War and such), but otherwise I'm indifferent to this setting. I think it's sad that Starcraft is just a more popular "homage" (being polite there) of 40K.
StarCraft II (Battle.net 2.0 does suck, but the actual gameplay is average): Starcraft 2 is quite good, IMO.
Halo: Halo brought about recharging shields, limited weapon inventory, easy transitions from foot to vehicle in the same environment, and (at least up to the time of it's release) the best cooperative FPS storymode. It was successful for many reasons. I enjoyed playing it. I think it becoming such a big, branching franchise is a bit sad, but if people enjoy it so be it. I think maybe a lot of anti-MS / anti-XBOX / pro-Sony / pro-PS people hate Halo for being such a success for XBOX and MS and helping the XBOX survive, be successful, and become (at least for a limited time) the king of consoles.
Facebook : I do hate Facebook. I hate the whole implementation of social networking and what it means and how it has changed so many people. This and twitter. Partly because so many people default to it that many feel they NEED to have it just to be able to access their friends and family, let alone contests and online information about many things. There's the story of the creator. There's the invasion of privacy. I have a long list of reasons why I think it's a bad thing beyond it being so popular - but I will freely admit I wouldn't hate it if it were a niche thing. The hate comes from the frustration at seeing it grow and thrive while I have a long list of reasons I think it's a bad thing.
Call of Duty: Black Ops : See MW2 comment above.
Dungeons & Dragons : I strongly dislike 3rd Editions - it's not for me. I love 4th, 2nd, 1st and Basic, though. If I could squeeze the last droppings of the 3E stuff I dislike that still exist in 4E (feats, for example), I would proclaims 4E the best RPG on the market. As is, there is too much of the 3E / MTG mindset embedded in the 4E system, making it a great if flawed product.
3E fans mostly hate 4E because it's not 3E. Like 2E fans hated 3E... and 1E fans hated 2E. And 4E fans hate Essentials. It's a cycle, and no, 3E fans, your dislike of 4E is no more justified than any other editions' fans dislike of the edition that replaced their first/favorite.
American Idol : I hate reality television as a concept and as something that replaced much scripted drama. Idol jus happens to have replaced Survivor as the most popular. They are as fake as Pro-Wrestling, but if you enjoy it knowing that, hey, knock your socks off.
Xbox/Xbox 360 (I admit, I kind of hate Xbox, since it ruined gaming) : I'm not sure how it "ruined" gaming... gaming seems alive and well with more gamers (yes, casual gamers "count") than ever. Did it ruin things for you because the 360 outsells the PS3? Why didn't the Wii ruin gaming for you with it's gimmicky controller and it's outselling of the 360 and PS3 combined (more or less, I have no idea of current numbers.)
I could try and argue that console gaming has ruined my PC gaming experience, but that way lies nothing good.
I like the XBOX series of consoles, as far as consoles go. I long wondered why someone didn't just take actual PC parts, instead of proprietary electronics, to make a console before.
Google : Big, successful and influential now is why others hate it, I'm sure. And conspiracy theorists love big and powerful targets. I just dislike the whole "world wide web age" naming meme of stupid-sounding childish terms, like Yahoo, Bing, Google, iPod, podcast, blog, etc. Other than the name, Google won me over long ago... and I'll lose interest in it if a better search engine ever appears.
Justin Beiber (this is justified by the fact that he's 16 and hasn't hit puberty) : I've been so far out of touch of "pop culture" in terms of music and celebrities for so long that I only recognize people like Justin Beiber due to the hatred so many people have for him. For me, he's a "whatever" - some kid who's currently popular for singing. Whee, that's not happened before. I think you really need to be a teenager or younger to care about him, one way or another.
Hannah Montana : Ditto Justin Beiber, but add Disney's "machine" to the mix - people love to hate on the Mouse House. (admission - I used to bash Disney quite frequently myself in my angrier youth.)
