To be honest, that "sleeping giant" thing always confuses me.

As you said, the japanese used the term for America before world war 2...and they were right.
The US could outproduce every other nation, had a large poulation and more than enough resources.

The alliance economy on the other hand is tiny (compared to asari and turians) and Terra Nova has the highest population of any Alliance colony (4.4 million)
Illium: 84,900,000
Tali Fia: 3,800,000,000

Whats your point? China before the opium war had 7 times the GDP of the British Empire and 1/3 of the world's population. The British still handed them their asses and became the world's first global superpower within the next 30 years. The same is true of the council. They're a decaying force in the galaxy that needs humanity more than humanity needs them.

A permanant alliance of equals only exists in fantasy land. It's going to boil down to a dominant, subserviant relationship sooner or later. That's just the nature of things.  Personally, I'd rather represent the dominant power! Besides, asari submissives......HAWT!

The asari fleet was mostly destroyed by Sovereign's geth and since then they have withdrawn from the Council fleet. They're worthless allies. We don't need them for their biotics because we don't need soldiers, what we need is ships. The quarians are more valuable as allies.

Yes, because only the largest surviving fleet matters before we face the reapers. The importance of total overall fleet strength? You have dismissed that claim.

They lost more than that.

Once again, their biotics don't matter in this fight. Fleet numbers don't matter very much either. What is most important is adequate weapons, which we'll have thanks to the Collector base.

Just what kind of weapons do you suspect to find at the Collector base?

Maybe some cruisers, but if we believe the ME codex
asari...
2183: 21 dreadnoughts
2185: 20 dreadnoughts

I am not sure about biotics. I am quite sure that BW will find some way to make the krogan useful (and since they have no fleet...).

That's why I save the collector base dammit! I want  my asari sub! Regardless of what your decision was regarding the base, I think humanity finds something in the rubble anyway. Human dominance is pretty much ordianed. It's just a matter if we're gonna be pricks about it or not. I have to say I'm a pretty big ****** when playing Shepard...Ha ha.

If there was some kind of super weapon at the Collector base they would probably have used it to stop shep rather than being wiped out.. just saying.

The kind that take two shots to take out a frigate at point blank range, when we already have tech that can take out a cruiser in two shots. Sounds like real potential there /sarcasm off

No race in general is going to be useful. Not the krogan, not the rachni, not the geth, quarians, council or any other bug eyed monster we may discover. The only people that are gonna stop the reapers are Shepard and his or her team.

I personally don't expect to find a superweapon. Just better than the ones we have now, and we know the collectors had those:) Besides, sometimes even the smallest most innocuous discoveries are the ones that change societies the most, Like discovering penecilin from mould.

But you shouldn't be working with them because you need their troops, you should be working with them because it's cool to have all the forces of the galaxy coming together in a big epic battle!

Dwarves, elves and men coming together to fight for the battle of Middle Earth! All forces united behind a common goal! Armies arriving from all corners of the galaxy! The divided united! A big, epic Independence Day speech!

"WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT! WE WILL REMEMBER THIS DAY AS THE DAY OUR DIVIDED PEOPLES ROSE UP IN ONE VOICE, AND CRIED 'NO! NO, I WILL NOT BE GOO-IFIED!!'"

If it is well written, relative fleet strengths and mobilization will determine how much time Shepard has to succeed. Too small or weak a defending fleet and Shepard wouldn't have enough time to win, or at least to achieve anything other than a pyrrhic victory.

Of course you could be right, in which case, ME2 really is just a complete waste of time regardless of choices.

The Thanix outgunned the Collector particle beam by orders of magnitude and The Turians got the Thanix.

They could use the tech against the now relatively defenseless Asari to make the worlds largest lap dancer to delay the Reapers, or at least keep civilization entertained while it burns :).

Which is a good thing. A cold war will prompt all participants to research new weapons and expand their militaries. Paragons may bring about a lot of trust and good will, but along with that they breed complacency.

The Thanix Cannon will be weak against the Reapers.
The Mass Accelerator gun will pwn the Reapers into dark space

Only idiot paragons. With a reaper threat out there, as well as having faced enough other potential threats, there is no room nor reason for complacency. There shouldn't be need for a cold war to keep us on our toes with a hot war at the doorstep.

The debris from all the dead Reapers is going to help.

But I'm not sure if Paragons would approve of that sense they believe the Collector base should be destroyedImage IPB

The mass accelerators are based on the tech wanted us to have, and the race that fielded that 'big gun' lost. The cannon was a significant upgrade in firepower over equivalent size/power mass accelerators.

And you base this on the fact that whoever invented the Mass Accelerator gun is around to this day?.. oh i forgot they ain't.
