I am wondering if those statues of War and Peace in Awakening in the Wending Wood are in any way connected to Eleni Zinovia? Or is it just common place to have talking statues in Thedas? If I recall the statues of War and Peace in Awakening were Avvars that were cursed by a Tevinter, I think?

Yup Avvar barbarians cursed by a Magister Lord, they talk vaguely about the gods so maybe they are related to Zinovia. Or maybe the warden was right and they'd just look really great in the throne room.

I doubt they're connected beyond the fact that all three were apparently hit by almost the same, or exactly the same, Tevinter spell.

I will say that I think it's really cool how a minor (but interesting) element from the mage origin is turning out to play a reoccuring role in the DA story arc.Image IPB

Well, it wasn't just a magister, but Archon Valerius who cursed Eleni. I'm doubting it is the same as Eleni spoke of the fall of his House, so I would assume that it was an internal struggle in the Imperium and not the case of an Archon fighting off barbarians in what is now Fereldan, to just be killed by two brothers. Although, that is just speculation, and the unnamed magister could be Archon Valerius.

Good point, forgot about that.

Still, BioWare had Maric unceremoniously die by getting lost at sea, so who knows.

Gaider is lying. He didn't die. Maric just found a distant island populated by elves and didn't feel like going home.

This Woman knows what the future holds. One can assume that she does not lie. She fortells the Change that Morrigan warns the Warden of, in a manner not unlike Cassandra. She also cryptically signifies that the Veil tears in the Circle basement are caused by something much more dangerous than simple chance.

Furthermore she clues in to the idea that a Maker deity may in fact exist!

"Weep not for me, child. Stone they made me and stone I am, eternal and
unfeeling. And thus shall I endure 'til the Maker returns to light their
fires again."

Any thoughts and theories out there about what she means by the change?

looks to the left and then looks to the right.

shh, its a secret, what she is saying is that Andraste is in reality an Old God,

Recently I had made a funny speculation that basically propounded that the Black city was a Dragon. The Shadow that Eleni mentions may be his shadow.... :P

Well, they could just be vague predictions that a writer tossed in there which could potentially be ascribed to anything in the future. Which makes us look prescient, like we had it planned all along.

Or it could be about something specific. And you will see Eleni again.

Scary, huh?

You know, some of your posts are just not very helpful Image IPB

Edit: Oh nvm just noticed this thread is a raised skeleton.

I don't know if she can see the future, but she's obviously getting some bad vibes from somewhere.

Maybe the "shadow" she was panicking about is the great blackness Tamlen saw in the Eluvian? It could have easliy just been darkspawn, though. Refering to the Fade as a "prison" was interesting.

Also, I'd like to know how Elini got her powers of foresight.

Kinda like how those guys chanting outside candlekeep back in Baldur's Gate were just random, ambient noise tossed in by a bored writer right?

In fact, it wouldn't suprise me at all, if, at some point in the future, The Maker did in fact "bring ham" and "bread sinners." After all, that old priestess knows the chant like the back of her hand.

So.... the Maker, when and if he/she shows up, is going  to make me a magical ham sammich to prove that he/she is in fact the Maker? Mmmmm......Awesome godly goodness....... *drools*

better have mustard, lettuce, and sharp cheddar cheese too though....

So I'm replaying my mage and can across something I didn't notice before. Eleni says 'til the Maker returns to light their fires again." She says their fires not his fires. More than one Maker perhaps?

And there is a lot of talk about fire. Maybe they are Dragons or something akin to them.

I was thinking something along the lines that the 'Old Gods' were actually the children of the maker...or some such nonsense...

I'll give you this: there's something to Eleni's prophecies. They're not completely random. What she's talking about, though? Well...you'll have to wait and see.

Interesting. I'm not a big fan of prophecies, usually. I find them to be a cheap way of making events happen without having to really explain it, and thus it sort of ruins the suspense, but I await to see what will happen in the next game.

For me, prophecies don't necessarily mean something will absolutely happen. They can be changed or prevented.

The other things about prophecies that irk me is that they ruin the tension and the story. A good example is Oedipus. I had to read it for an English course. I thought it might have been an interesting book, but the minute I heard that an oracle said to Oedipus' father that he would be killed by his own son, I threw the book away. Why? Because they pretty much gave me the ending right then and there. I found no point in reading the book anymore. The whole point of a tragedy or any other story is that you're supposed to be surprised. Prophecies ruin that, and take away any sort of surprise you might have. It's like telling the ending of a movie to a friend of yours when he was just about to see it.

The point I'm trying to make is that prophecies, for me, seem like a cheap and fast way of explaining what's going to happen in the future. It doesn't matter how cryptic it is. It also makes people who are not religious feel somewhat discouraged. Wasn't the whole point that we don't know if the Maker exists or not? That we don't really know if Andraste was really the Maker's Chosen, or just a powerful mage? That Andraste's Ashes were really divine, or if there was indeed a strong presence of lyrium that gave it immeasureable healing powers? That way, neither religious or non-religious people are hurt or discouraged (I'm an Agnostic; basically, I'm open to religion, but not 100% certain that it's true). Prophecies not only disappoint and discourage, but also make clear that there is a higher, divine power. Basically, in a way, from what I'm thinking, you just confirmed that the Maker or the Old Gods are/were actualy deities.

I don't know whether you agree or not, but that's my opinion. I'm not saying to not do it, just thought I'd offer my perspective on the situation.

It also, for me (and I'm not trying to insult you or any other members of the Bioware staff in any way), shows poor storytelling.

she also says something else cryptic though i cant remember what it is exactly. neither of these sound 'good' though. so i think the makers return isnt going 2 be good either. my theory is that DA3 will be the last game in the series and have hawke and the warden team up. at some point however, the maker returns but he and andraste are actually evil and would probably try destroying thedas and killing thousands of people. both hawke and the warden will have 2 decide between helping the maker or saving humanity. the player would make this decision for both hawke and the warden. if they sided against each other, the player would either see the story from both points of view or pick one 2 stay with. the final boss would probably be the maker and/or andraste or it could be hawke/ the warden depending one the earlier decision.

this is just my theory though, im probably WAY off.
