Oh, he'll survive, don't you worry. As long as he knows how to love, you know he'll be alive.

Well played, Ser.

I dunno if I'm right in my thinking at all, but maybe EA acquiring Bioware was a good thing? I mean let me say why first, well with EA behind them they have much more funding and power. And look at it like this, Dragon Age before EA was in development hell for like 4 years. Once EA comes along Dragon Age is finished up after so long. Plus while some may not like DLC because they think it's something that should of been in before the game was released. And while I agree on some like the characters, but other things I partly don't feel they'd ever be in the final game. Back before EA Mass Effect got like 2 DLC over the course of two years. Now with EA look how many DLC's are coming out for their games.

So stop chatting with us and put your foot down :P Be clear the virtual pitchforks and torches shall be raised!! I would be the lone nutjob thats actually outside your offices in Edmenton but there was this whole sorrid business with a moose last time I was in Canada and I am still not allowed to cross that border.

Well, there's nothing that putting *my* foot down will do. That decision has nothing to do with me.

And even if it did, there's probably nothing that can happen on a Saturday night right before I head out for some needed dancing. I'm going to go shimmy a little extra tonight at the thought that someone actually claims they know how the guys at Westwood felt-- or how we feel-- because they like games. I think that's worth a shimmy or two. :)

Dont sell yourself short. You might not be in the circle that makes the decision but I bet a little schmoozing never hurt and can do big things... well unless your that scary person in the dark corner that never talks to anyone ever at the work place.
Go get your shimmy on and I will continue to rack up the wins (and money) at the pool table.

EA getting Bioware is a good thing. What is so bad about having more money? I see some people complain like getting more money is a bad thing. More money means they have more to spend on games and more money also means better marketing. So why is EA/Bioware a bad thing? I also see some people complain about the the companies that went under but you never see them talk about the ones that flourish.

Personally, I think that the publisher/developer relationship is interesting, but not necessarily bad. And, quite additionally to Mike's thumbs up, it's clear that the writers love EA. Who are the most "good", classically popular characters in the game? Arl EA-mon and Bann T-EA-gan. And the EA logo kind of looks like, um, the heraldry on the, uh, Grey..... well, something heroic.

Good Nutella. Everytime I read about I Will Survive I remember about the horrible, horrible brazillian parody.

Don't you dare to talk bad about brazillian parodies!

Ha. I found it! How "hardcore/oldschool PC" am I?

In this video, at 6'59, the UnPlayedaThing guy reads out what I think is a response to the Ultima VII generators - evil, and shaped like the EA logo. Not to mention super evil Elizabeth and Abraham, where the writers were taking what LB described as a "friendly" dig at EA.

There you go, I rest my case. Bann T-EA-gan = the developers like EA.

However, Adventure Construction Set was released before Ultima VII..... my head just exploded.

A Brief Rundown

Westwood Studios aka Westwood Associates at first was a videogame developer started in 1985. They became famous for making some of the best RPGs of their time: Eye of the Beholder (1990) and Eye of the Beholder 2 (1991), which were based on 2nd Ed. AD&D rules. Later on, they became more famous for the Command and Conquer RTS series.

Westwood went down very simply. First off, it merged with Virgin in 1992. Cool. Then EA bought it from Virgin in 1998. Many Westwood employees weren't willing to work under EA and quit. The rest of the employees continued developing games under EA. The games were managed with increasing oversight from EA who held them to tighter deadlines, forcing them to rush out content faster, which in turn forced them to cut more corners. When the games (Command & Conquer: Renegade in particular) failed to satisfy the customers or EA's projections, EA eventually shut down Westwood Studios and kept all their IPs in 2003.

Some of the former Westwood Studios employees went on to form Petroglyph Games. Some of them stuck with EA and became a part of EA LA.

You can spot the parallels if you want and feed your inner doomsayer. EA is an evil vampire of a corporation who takes companies under its wing only to bleed them dry and reduce the workers into mindless drudges that pursue only the bottom line to fulfill EA's biddings. Yes. Yeeesss.

Seriously, I do find wanton despair in the OP's post.

Onyx Jaguar, the last few Westwood Studios games before EA shut it down I bothered with were: Red Alert 2 (RTS), Emperor: Battle for Dune (RTS), RA2: Yuri's Revenge (RTS), and Nox (Diablo-style RPG). Emperor: Battle for Dune was kinda meh to me, but part of that was because I've read the original Dune chronicles on which the games are based. The other games I liked, and Nox in particular I still play from time to time.

Maybe if you give other information mr. Gaider about things like dialogue system or Hawke customization (in regards of roleplay) people will stop to think bad.. But at the moment i hear only to VO character.. New gameplay... New Graphic... New Animation.. And nothing with the roleplay part..Since i am a little worryed too.. I prefear old style ala Baldur's Gate back.. Al this choice of streamlize evrything.. Limit our roleplay options.. Make static classes without any Roleplay reasons (only to make roguish animations).. Force us tho play a single race.. (this for the voiced character) can give bad impressions for the people that consider roleplay games just roleplay games and not videogames.. For some of us RPG are not simply videogames but they are a true passion.. Now call me doomsayer but in fact we have tons of informations in the gameplay but nothing about the most important thing.. Dialogues and Roleplay part..

Why don't answers to those questions?...

Just a spell that summons an evil toy that follows someone around needlessly tormenting them for Hawke's amusment? I'm down. Could we put in a request?

I would imagine they were compensated as was bioware, but you know, I have purchased nearly every single bioware related game they have made or have been attached to and guess what?

I feel very very let down at the direction DA2 is going, I saw the link where they suggested many of the changes in streamlining the game were budget driven, but didn't the first game do well?

Does (ANYONE) truly feel this new lean mean, feature stripped machine is going to be (Better)???

I don't want Mass Effect dragons...( I do have both ME1 and ME2) but i know what I am looking for in those...

I miss BOO

I miss choice

I really really am going to miss the feeling i got when I had played as so many different Wardens

I absolutely know there are basically 2 groups here.   Those that will take any game that comes and will defend whatever ea provides..and the much much smaller and (apparently) less vocal ones who wonder how far the ship is from the shore and why won't the captain speak to us?

You don't troll for quality added items..those that pretend this is trolling so as to dismiss or diminish its meaning fool only yourselves.

I will absolutely be getting ME3 but I know what to expect and it (minus the sex fear thing) got BETTER!!!!.

Is there ONE person on this forum who TRULY believes these are changes designed to make the game better or....(gasp! cheaper and more console friendly) I would add DLC conducive, but THAT might be a bit much.

I am heading over to the Pearl where my sorrows will swallowed by the kindness of (Eleven Hostess Name Removed).

You guys do realize the Bioware is doing exactly what Westwood did (which put them under).

They are making a costly Science Fiction MMO, and a FPS spinoff of Baldur's Gate.

Wait nevermind, they are doing a costly Sci_fi MMO and there was a hack and slash spinoff of Baldur's Gate back in the day but Bioware was uninvolved. NEVERMIND

If anything about the only thing you can say that is happening to Bioware is what happened to Treyarch, or Naughty Dog

Ya know, as much as I personally would hate to see Bioware go the way of Origin Systems, Bullfrog, Westwood or Pandemic, I almost hope it does happen just so years from now I can laugh and point at people like you and say I told you so. I certainly hope TOR gets the sales and support it needs to thrive unlike most of EA's past MMO attempts. I mean where is MPBT 3025 today, or Earth and Beyond, Motor City online, or the Sims online just to name a few? Last I checked Warhammer Online wasn't exactly breaking records for sales or subscriber numbers either.

Blindly defending serves no one, alot of us brought up worries about DA2 and because of that Mike Laidlaw was nice enough to actually answer some questions and lay some of those worries to rest for some of us, instead of taking Mr Gaider's usual route of being snarky and condescending and gee, I think the first approach did far more wonders for the community than the second approach.

Sure it's a good thing that Mega Corporation swallow every independant workforce.I mean they want the monopol of everything so just give them until they throw away like a pair of old  panties.

When you look at studio like Pandemic it's give everyone hope.Electronic art are the best!
I remember when they swallowed Mythic entertainement  ( i was a daoc player) . Such a big fail.
Now it's bioware .. Everywhere i go they follow .. EA = a plague.

Ah yes, Emperor: Battle for Dune was the one I couldn't remember the name.  Also missed out on Nox as back in the day the price would fluctuate so I never got it.  Unfortunately like many of EA's properties it hasn't seen a proper re-release.

Then I gues its a good thing its being published in tandem with LucasArts.  They just wouldn't let Galaxies die for instance.

And I do not see how I "blindly" defend Bioware.  What just because I like ME 2?  I don't remember when I signed up on this site clicking a checkbox that says "void if you like ME 2"

for ****s sake, just check back the old US sacrifice thread on the Awakening forum

Uhhh, wut?

The changes are most certainly not budget driven. Where the hell did you hear that?

How exactly do you expect it to cost more money to use the same old ****?

EDIT: These changes are meant to make the game better. Will they? Hell if I know. Can't be sure until I try it.

Aww, the memories.  And of course EA is EVIL!  Did you see Ultima 9?!  Did you?!  I still cry myself to sleep over what Ultima became.  Or maybe I would if I dwelled on it forever.  Fortunently, Bioware doesn't seem to have met the same fate as Origin did, though Origin did seem to perhaps be sliding toward oblivion before EA, maybe, but we'll just keep blaming EA anyway, since they certainly didn't help.  Yay for EA not being (as) evil anymore.

Not sure what any of this meant, but you challenged BioWare to deny your claims, and two developers did. That you're still whining tells me that you're not actually interested in what they have to say. You just want to wallow in your percieved victomhood because Lord knows you'd just DIE if you didn't have something to cry about to your therapist.

Ok, I do usually have alot of hate for EA and Activision for essentially being evil overlords. But right now I actually like EA simply because without them Brutal Legend would never exist. If you want a true evil go listen to that guy who runs Activision and hear his excuse for why Infinity Ward's heads were ousted from their company.

Granted, EA has made some terrible decisions, namely in regards to Medal of Honor and their stupid online vouchers, but I never really hear of them saying "Oh Bioware, you must churn out DA2 within 6 weeks or be destroyed". I also don't hear anything about Bioware being made to put multiplayer in this, which would show EA's involvement. Hell EA has been very quiet when it comes to Bioware.
