The gaming breaking secret is: max Str/Cunning, learn 2-handed talents especially Overrun, level 2 stealth and combat movement. You'll beat the crap out of Martine's dps with your greatsword backstabs. :D

Add: I've been one-shotting things for the last ten minutes or so. Butts are being liberally kicked!

Sounds fun! I've been curious about a similar idea as well, except for DA:O & tryin that with a Maul, which i've heard has high armor penetration power. Might make such a character a deadly anti-armor tank! (of the medieval times!) Image IPB

Score one for thinkin outside the box! Image IPB

Now, with that said, ya better hope Bioware doesn't decide to thank you for this post with a Nerf Bat to the kisser. Image IPB

And this I find out after spending a whole day on finishing the game as a Rogue character. :P

I still have to play through the game with Mage and Warrior, and manage to kill two enemies in one shot at some point, but I'm not sure if I feel up to it. Damn achievements.

You can get the 'kill 2 enemies in 1 attack' achievement with all 3 archetypes! Image IPB I've discovered (as I got the achievement) that it's not needed for the player to do it, any team member can do it, & ya still get the achievement! I got it by havin my spirit healer learn the lightning cone aoe spell that requires lvl 4, (keepin this novice friendly) & had him use it on 2 enemies at the same time when they were at low health & positioned close enough together. Was a bit of a pain, because the enemies sometimes tried to use their heads & keep spread apart. Image IPB

I found just going with a dorfie 2h'er warrior great. Team up with martine, add flaming swords buff, and things just die. Don't have to plan battles at all.

I wasn't able to backstabb with my rogue. What does it take more than taking your opponent from its back? More cunning than the target? What?

It might not work on an opponent that successfully detects your attempt to backstab before the backstab lands. It's easier to land the backstab if your stealthed, & if you attempt it on an opponent you're also managing a Flank maneuver on. (If i'm not mistaken. If I am, I would appreciate correction, as i'm still learning the ins & outs of the backstab as well. Started my rogue playthrough just today, as of the time of this post. Image IPB)

I've managed a 46 damage backstab on lvl 2 with a tier 1 greataxe & 11 str! Before I had reached Orzammar! & it was cool finding a greataxe so fast! I'm givin this a try! It's looking successful already!

It works like this:

Backstabs will occur 100% if you are against an enemy(even if face to face) while still in stealth.

Whether a backstab will work or not then completely depends on whether you are detected or not when you move into the hexagon right against an enemy, be it behind the enemy or in front of the enemy. Every time you move along an enemy(moving from one hexagon against the enemy into another hexagon against that enemy), there is a chance that your stealth will break. Every time an enemy walks up right against you, there is also a chance that your stealth will break.

There has been no information yet on whether it increases your chance of getting detected if you walk straight into someone's face, as opposed to approach the target from flanks or behind.

A good idea is: do not attack an enemy straight away with one click to attempt your backstab in stealth. You should first move your character to the hexagon from where you plan on backstabbing the enemy. If the enemy detects you, you can then use a mighty blow or other ability to attack him instead, since you are already detected and cannot attempt backstab; if you are not detected, then you can have a 100% backstab.

A very important note which many people may not realize: special abilities such as Mighty Blow, Below the Belt, Deadly Strike etc. will NEVER proc a backstab, even if you remain undetected right against the enemy ready to stab. However, buffs such as Powerful Swings will contribute to your backstab damage. Do not activate those buffs while in stealth though, as that will break your stealth. You should always activate buffs first, then go into stealth.

Argh this pains me to do this but did you really need to put two or three words on every topic? were you just trying to get your post count up? none of the ones I have read have anything to do with the threads.

Finished my rogue log! Image IPB It really does work! Image IPB Didn't quite get to 3 digit damage, but then again, I didn't quite get to level 8 either, so might just need a couple more levels. (When Chapter 2 comes out.)

It is kind of game breaking, mostly because of overrun letting you stealth around the field.
