I am wondering about where to put proficiency points for skill in using a Moonblade. (The physical ones not the spell) Since Xan has one, I assumed, probably wrongly that it was a dagger proficiency, but the one in the Drizzt Saga mod can be used by clerics etc. No option for proficiency in daggers there. If you can use a Moonblade, do you automatically have grandmastery in it as you would with the spell? I hope that somebody knows.

In BG1 it was small swords. BGT translated that to daggers. I don't know what Tutu or Drizzt Saga did.

Thanks for your answer, but since I have both Tutu and the Drizzt Saga installed, further info from others exceedingly welcome.

It's not consistent. Using BGT and Drizzt Saga, Moonblades are generally considered Long Swords. There are two exceptions: Xan's Moonblade seems to be considered a small sword in the BG1 part of the game and a long sword in the BG2 part of the game. There's also a Moonblade in the game that's considered a Twohanded sword, but it's irrelevant to player characters.
Note that as far as i can tell the Moonblade added by mods is ONLY useable by elves and halfelves (which is consistent with D&D lore). .
Also note that my game is very heavily modded and the above info might not be 100% correct for your game. You're probably safe if you invest in Long Sword proficiency, though.

EDIT: The Moonblade you're referring to can not be used by anyone with an evil alignment and anyone who is not an elf or an halfelf. No class restrictions. I'm 99,99% certain this is the Moonblade you're referring to.

Just use shadowkeeper to adjust your proficiencies once you find out what actually works :)

You can now be 100% certain that you are right . As a ranger/cleric my current character cannot become proficient in swords of any kind, so obviously will not be proficient in moonbladesPosted Image. Jaheira can be proficient in scimitars, but not two-handed swordsPosted ImagePosted Image. Coran is deadPosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image. So that just leaves Kivan who could be proficient and he only has 32,000 experience!!! Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image. I was hoping that perhaps all characters had grandmastery as per the spell moonblade.
A related question is this. Are moonblades available in BG2 both in modded and unmodded games?

In my install there are 2 Moonblades that are definitely in the BG2 part of the game. The first is a Long Sword only useable by Xan, the second a Twohanded Sword only useable by a specific npc. There's a third Moonblade that might be available in either BG1, BG2 or both. I do seem to remember finding a moonblade in the Region of Terror mod (in the cave where Regis is held captive, iirc) during my last playthrough. By the time i found it, i had much better weapons, though, so i never used it.

Again, don't take my word for it. My memory might be faulty.:(

Damnit, my tea from yesterday has gone cold. :(

If you install the Xan mod, you can get a moonblade for BG2 - if you install Xan as a FM, you can get a great moonblade for BG2.

I know about Xan's Moonblade. I am wondering if there is one for my Ranger/Cleric as well.
Unfortunately my mod set up has Xan as a sorceror Posted Image. I am not going to re-install. Too much chance of conflicts as it is HEAVILLY modded.

I wonder what will happen when in the dungeon. Could I accidentallyPosted Image drop the Moonblade from the Drizzt Saga?

I might investigate "The Region of Terror" and find out if it is compatable with my set up.

This time my character is male so I won't be romancing Xan.

Actually with BGT I can successfully import the Moonblade into my BG2 games. Since nobody was able to use them however (and Xan brought a new one with him and was unable to use the old one) I've never used them, however.

I wonder if it's BGT or another mod.

When and if I make it through my current game to Amn, I will let you know if the same is true of Tutu. I want to keep the blade for roleplaying purposes as much as anything. After all it is not as powerful as the other weapons you get from Dark Horizons for example.

Well, I have picked up the Moonblade available in the Drizzt Saga. It certainly looks like a long sword and can be wielded by a Ranger/Cleric. However, I wouldn't know how to go about finding out about which proficiencies if any it uses. I could no doubt import it into a multi-player game which has an elven fighter in it. However, how would I determine the proficiencies used if I did that?

Shadowkeeper proficiency editing + THAC0 checks?
