Processor Speed: 2.0 GHz, 533 MHz FSB 2mb L2 Cache
Operating SystemWindowsXP
System RAM: 1gig DDR2
Video Card Manufacturer: ATI
Video Card Model: Mobility Radeon x700
Video Card RAM: 128 megs
Free Disk SpaceD/15GB

Description: Error Message on Launch: "Application Error - nwn2main.exe. The application
failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application."

I've been playing NWN2 with all the expansions
using this laptop for ages. Upon reformatting my computer, I hadn't
reinstalled it until I got the craving to play again.  So I reinstalled,
checked the installation and got this error. I updated to the next
version and checked again, but still no improvement. Error message shows
up when game is opened from nwn2main.exe, but does not appear when
executed from the launch menu. However it still does not start. I'm not
quite sure what the problem is. I have a feeling it's something to do
with DirectX or the .net Framework not being installed properly, though
dxdiag says it's all fine. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Have you updated the game to v1.23 yet?

Also, those specs look low end unless I'm reading them wrong.

The video card is comparatively weak, yes.  The Pentium "M" is more or less the older brother of the Core, and is a better CPU than a Pentium P4 at the same core speed, although not really in the Core's class, more akin, in performance, to an AMD XP at about the same core speed (which was better than any P4 other than a Prescott, but not as much better as the AMD A64 was).

. . which is at least somewhat beside the point here,  which seems to indicate that something critical is damaged, and a reinstall of the game seems potentially useful.

Yeah, I installed the 2 expansions and updated to v1.23. Unfortunately the problem did not fix itself. I tried a reinstall, but after the initial installation the same problem occurred.

The specs are a little low, yes, but I have been playing the game previously on lower settings without many ill effects, so I know it's not a lack of computing power that's causing the problem.

At the moment I'm playing it on my work computer, which ironically has lower specs then my laptop, lol.

Considering it's laptop with a only 2.0 GHz processor, your missing the minimum requirement, which is "Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent". The minimum requirements for SoZ are higher for SoZ than NWN 2 and MotB,so it looks like you are fighting an uphill battle.

Since you have been able to play it previousely on this machine, however, it sounds like something is getting broken in the installation process. Please see the Installing NWN 2 topic for installing NWN 2 and subsequent expansion packs.

Also note that your free disk space may need to be higher than 15 GB as I suspect your Pagefile space may be getting used up.

Forgive the delayed reply. I tried the above advice and unfortunately did not meet any success. Therefore I bought a new computer and solved the problem.

Thanks anyway!
