Since Shepard will invariably be an american male soldier, who makes Paragon choices but has a Renegade attitude towards enemies and authority. In other words, traditional hollywood cheese. Entertaining to watch, but not what I want ME to be universally considered.

I hope .. that the movie isn't touted as being "the canon".

Same... would love an idea that I came across in a post here of them filming two movies with male and femshep that have slightly different dialog. I know that's a lot to asked but it's what I would like to see.

See the thing is that people who will go see this movie other than the hardcore ME fans will either think one of two things depending on how its produced.smudboy wrote...
A plot. I think a movie at least deserves a plot.
1. Too "nerdy" and gives newcomers no direction.
2. Awesome due to it being so dumbed down and will be a cliche hollywood movie.

The story about 1st contact war will be kinda cool, tho. It could compliment the game nicely.
And I hope they make it GOOD.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are unique achievements; they represent the elevation of the video game into a storytelling medium on par with movies or books, it was a story meant to be told in the medium of video games.
Making Mass Effect into a movie would be like making a Hemingway novel into a movie, or a Shakespeare play into a comic book, or (for that matter) like making Saving Private Ryan into a video game it’s not going to work.

But back to the topic now: as mentioned above, the movie will probably be "dumbed down" and there is going to be lots of explosions and visual effects everywhere; I like the concept of going with the Paragon way, it would really be a typical American movie. I think as long as they stick to some part of the ME storyline the movie will be decent, as in decent for an adaptation, not like in the case of Doom where they simply omitted the demons and put infected people / monsters everywhere.

Personally, I wish a Mass Effect adaptation was never made. Or perhaps a TV show would be better. What do you think about that one, guys? A series with the style of Stargate. In each episode Shepard and his team would travel to a different system, different nebula solving different mysteries.

I don't think the story of Shepard should be the focus of the movie. At most it should be mentioned by the movie's stars like a gossip topic or something...I say this because if it's not related to the main story it won't hurt as much if it sucks. On top of that it might enforce the idea of a "canon" Shepard.

Just off the top of my head, I’d like to know the story of the second human SPECTARE. It might be neat to see this bloke, already an elite soldier/spy/secret agent have to do his galaxy protecting thing while living in Shepard’s shadow on account of race.

Lets say that they base the first movie solely on the first game. There's simply too much material to cover in 2 - 2.5 hours. Lets list the main plot points they'd need to cover in some approximate order:
1) Backstory/Intro
2) Eden Prime
3) Citadel
a) Recruiting Wrex, Garrus and Tali
4) Therum / Liara recruitment
5) Feros
6) Noveria
7) Virmire
8) Ilos
9) Citadel Finale
AND they'd need to find time to squeeze in some sort of "intro" for who/what Cerberus is if they hoped for a sequel.
My view is that they could cut Feros completely. That's at least a large chunk. They could do a very short intro that matches the end of the first chapter of the first novel (conversation between Grissom and Anderson just before Shanxi invasion). They could drop Therum and introduce Liara in some other way. And for me, I'd guess they'd just tie Cerberus to the events on Noveria and call it a day for them.
The big problems come for the major plot points. We can assume in today's society that Shep is going to be male, he's going to be paragon and he's going to have a bit of ****iness to him. Who does Shepard romance? Who dies on Virmire? Do you include a second romance between Kaiden and the remaining female thereby making the Virmire choice even more emotional? The entire Wrex dilemma will be glossed over and there's no way they'd kill him off. How do you write Garrus, paragon or renegade? How much side info makes it into the movies?
The writers are going to have to be very deft with the scissors and are going to have to take liberties with certain plot points. There's no way it will all fit and they're going to have to mash certain things together to make it work.

That it cotains the plot "exactly" from the games. no deviations that you see from all most games to movies. other than that im sorted
You have to realize that you're talking about an 8 hour movie then, right?
Its simply not feasible to include everything which is why half of me really doesn't want the movie to be made.
The other half of me knows that a great movie can be made with the right writers, the right director and most importantly a very good editorial staff.
BioWare would need to do the writing in house and ideally, they'd have to make sure that the fans were ok with what was being cut.

Making Mass Effect into a movie would be like making a Hemingway novel into a movie, or a Shakespeare play into a comic book, or (for that matter) like making Saving Private Ryan into a video game it’s not going to work.
We saw this in Red Dwarf. Well, Virgil, not Shakespeare, but still...
"Kerpow, kersplat, die you Trojan pigdog. Well, I see they've remained faithful to the original text. I'm sure Virgil would have approved."
I am not at all looking forward to this, for two reasons. First, if it involves Shepard at all, the movie is going to be terrible. There is no canon Shep, and putting a particular Shepard in as a character in the movie would be working to destroy the choice and customization that defines the games. And, second, the books, in my opinion, are not as well written as the games, so I have little faith that adapting it to yet another medium will work as well, especially since it will mean cutting out so much that both the books and the game had, in an attempt to fit the two hour timeframe.
