Yeah...playing Adept...... and I feel.....dumbed down for some odd reason..... o.0

I'm trying to get Nemesis asap, and follow that with wide singularity, pull field....maybe, took ED as my bonus power, and thinking of getting warp ammo as well.....

but....is getting heavy vs. wide singularity worth it? Pull field?

also need help on weapons

HP: Phanlax
HW- Grenade/Cain
SMG- Locust
BW- AR Training

Armor: Cerberus or Blood Dragon

Ok not ok? I'm still Pre Horizon.....

What difficulty are you playing on? I ask because it makes a difference in build priority and is also a part of the reason to go wide or heavy. On insanity, I tend to go for heavy as opposed to wide because it holds up longer against protected enemies, which is primarily what I use singularity for. Scions, harbinger, legionnaires, etc, will all sit there and look at you if you throw a singularity at them. Works much the same for standard mobs except that once you shoot off the protection they automatically become easy warp bomb targets.

If you aren't playing on a difficulty setting with protections than wide has more uses since more enemies tend to fall into it when you don't have to shoot any protections off.

The only changes I'd make would be the Heavy Weapon (I dislike the Cain), and the SMG. Once you get the AR Training, the Locust would be rather redundant. Then again, so would any other weapon. Especially since you have the Mattock. I'd actually consider going Sniper instead of Assault Rifle, as that will give you more long-range capabilities. That's me, though.

Heavy Singularity is best - even though it isn't as broad, it can actually ragdoll more enemies. More importantly, it lasts longer, AND holds protected enemies (e.g. Harbinger) in place longer because it has more "charges."

Blood Dragon is your best bet armorwise. For an outfit that shows your face, Inferno armor is better than the Cerberus suit.

Arc Projector will benefit you far better than the Grenade Launcher, as it will strip multiple enemies of their shields with each shot. You can use Warp to handle the other two defenses.

i've yet to actually see a situation where the extra range of Wide Singularity was worth it's diluted affect - I'd vote for Heavy Singularity on any difficulty. Out of the two evolutions, it's the better one for handling bosses - you've always got Pull to handle crowds (even if you don't get to the AoE version, it's got a blisteringly short cooldown).

As for guns, if you're going AR, a combo of Mattock/Phalanx/Locust/Arc Projector should give you a powerful option in practically every situation. You could go sniper instead and exchange the Mattock for the Viper - it doesn't really matter, as they're very similar in terms of functionality and power. Depends on whether you want to use a scope or not, really... :)

Armour doesn't have that much affect. Personally I just go with the kestrel chestplate and shoulders, the weapon damage gauntlets, the stimulator conduit greaves and the headshot visor - kind of boosts what I wanted at the expense of boosting biotic power damage, but to be fair no armour is going to have that much effect on biotics anyway. There's 6 biotic damage upgrades lying around in the game, anyway.

I would just add that from the poor success I had with wide singularity, and the constant success people were telling me that they had with the power in general (that I was not), heavy singularity seems to be the only real choice since it affects protections better, and thats more important than actual value against unprotected guys.

unprotected enemies are already easy targets for faster recharge powers like pull and throw.

If you are doing wide singularity then you don't need pull field. Wide singularity is for an assault rifle adept who wants to focus on warp explosions. Put your points in heavy throw instead. Do you have LotSB yet? If so then take stasis and leave it at lvl 1.

This is my Assault Rifle build... it works well for me.

Lvl 4 Heavy Warp
Lvl 4 Heavy Throw
Lvl 4 Wide Singularity
Lvl 2 Pull
Lvl 3 Shockwave
Lvl 4 Nemesis
Lvl 1 Stasis
1 point left over.

Weapons: Mattock/Tempest/Phalanx/Arc Projector
Squadmates: Miranda/Garrus and Jack/Jacob/Samara for missions heavy with shields. Jack/Samara/Jacob and Thane for missions heavy with barrier/collector ship. Grunt and Miranda on Horizon. Grunt and Samara on the derelict reaper/biotic bubble. Grunt for Tuchanka. Zaeed anytime there are Geth.

The Arc Projector is basically Chain Lightning in a Gun. It fires of a bolt of electricity that can hit numerous targets. It can hit explosive containers and cause them to explode with increased force, and will actually stun enemies long enough to charge up a second shot. It's not as good against Armor or Barriers as it is against Shields, but it's still a very solid weapon to have with you. It's only issue is that you have to have a target box on an enemy; without one, it just fizzles.

I'd highly recommend taking Sniper Rifles or shotguns instead of assault rifles. With the Locust you have an SMG which is better for an Adept than any Assault Rifle.

Shot for shot the Mattock or Vindicator are more powerful than the Locust; but without the slowdown and weapon damage bonus you get from a Soldier's Adrenaline Rush no other class has the accuracy and power needed to stretch the Vindicator or Mattock's ammo.

For an Adept I'd recommend taking the Viper Sniper Rifle or the Geth Shotgun as your bonus weapon. The Viper is very powerful and accurate for dealing with long range threats; but also has a pretty deep ammo reserve so you can miss a few shots without getting yourself in trouble. While the charge shot on the Geth shotgun lets you unleash a devastating single shot from a range which won't get your Adept into trouble.

Previous post answered the arc projector mostly, I never really cared for it especially since I usually was heavy on casting powers and prefered distance. I liked the collector particle beam A LOT. I always felt that as Adept you already have INSANE crowd control abilites, so taking a heavy weapon that doesnt really work as well against specific boss type enemies was a waste.... maybe its just me though.

As for sniper vs assault rifle - How good of a shot are you? If you have no problem headshotting guys in other games, then Viper/Snipers are a great choice for a distance weapon. If you're already playing and you've tried to headshot a lot, but dont have very good results, then I'd say stick with the Assault rifles, they'll allow you a wider range of weapons and protection strippers. The Mattock is pretty good for sniping actually, and so long as you dont have a 22 inch TV or smaller, the enemies usually are never far off enough that you need the scope for precise aim. I also like the Mattock more simply because of its completely battlefield versatility, it can be used effectively at any range, which means during closing to CQC distances you dont need to switch weapons and can focus on shooting & using your awesome powers.

I dont get how people have so much ammo trouble with the Mattock. So long as you're remembering to collect ammo at the end of a battle, and dont use the weapon EXCLUSIVELY (I mean if you're fighting blue suns or geth, the locust or tempest should be what you switch to), you should rarely run out of ammo, especially since the ammo pickups for the mattock are RIDICULOUSLY huge.

You might have a point with the geth plasma shotgun though. As an Adept you have very few weapons that are single shot enemy killers, and the GPS charged will do just that, and provides a bit of room for error on CQC aiming vs the assault rifles/mattock.

The Geth Plasma Shotgun REALLY changed the value of bonus weapon training. Personally I think its a matter of choice, and I'd still probably go for the Mattock as an Adept because I prefer to stay at range, but if the poster or any player likes to actually get into the "thick of it" and play CQC some, the GPS is probably the better choice. So good point about shotgun training

ehh... the tempest acts as a good alternative to shotguns for cqc play.

On an Adept the Arc Projector does just fine against shielded bosses - the best example being Hock's gunship, which takes about one shot to his shields before he retreats.

It's not as effective against armour and barriers, true, but it still packs a huge punch against them (about the same raw damage as an unmodded Widow) and it packs AoE, crowd control and some side effects from Overload and Reave into the mix (frazzle effect on enemies and detonates explosives and pyros). The Particle Beam isn't a bad weapon but falls behind a bit in those regards.

To be honest, an Adept isn't going to have a problem with Barriers or Armour HW or not.

Certainly you've got a point. And I would say if you're doing the Geth/Mech side missions it should be mandatory to bring along as its nothing but shields. Even Tali's recruitment is obviously another (though I like to switch to Cain right before the Collosus-but arc projector gets the job done too).

I just found as an Adept, it rarely was ever the "goons" that were the real problem, only the single mini-boss or "elite goons" that were a problem, and a precision blast from the CPB made it the easiest for me to remove them quickly from the battle and then refocus on the goons with the adept which has great goon control ability.

But thats the general rule of thumb to the entirety of mass effect 2. They setup and defined what you should use against what pretty clearly, and so long as you've played through already (and arent just asking for what you should use generally WITHOUT knowing whats coming) then its best to equip ahead of time planning for those protections and bosses. Very few things in Mass Effect 2 DONT have some value at some instance of the game. *stares at shockwave*

Arc Projector isn't just good on Adepts; it is one of the best HW in the game. Not only does it utterly rape shields, armor and synthetics... not only is one shot capable of severely damaging an entire pack of enemies at once... it also forces a stun animation, even on such lofty foes as Geth Primes. You can spam it almost with impunity so long as you get the first shot off.

I like Mattock + Locust + Arc Projector best for an Adept. Bonus talent either Barrier or Stasis. GPS is very good too though. Mattock is a beast and if you run out of ammo, you get another little monster in Locust and when you want to strip shields from many enemies asap you can use Arc Projector, which is just insane.

I also like to use the avalanche on the collector ship when fighting the preatorian. Two shot of it take out the husks for you and another two freezes the collectors that come around the corner. Then you play run around the pillar with the praetorian and let your squadmates kills it from a distance.

Avalanche is great whenever you'll meet a tightly packed group of enemies. Fire 2-3 shots and they'll all freeze and stay frozen for a very long time. Very effective used on Collector platforms, SB goons flying in before you'll have to fight Vasir and other heavily fortified positions. It will instakill husks like NICKjnp said. Very effective HW with lots of ammo.

Arc Projector is even better - but the Avalanche is perfect for everybody who doesn't like electrical shocks and/or prefer a more humane way to kill there opponents :P
