I've just started reading and posting in this forum the past couple weeks, and its quickly become one of my favorite forums.

Not so much just because of the info on Mass Effect, but on all the various philosophical approaches to strategy in general that people come up with. I'm a VERY big student of strategy (my bookshelf looks like the terrorists library to world domination), and I'm actually in the process of writing my own book on it.

Mass Effect 2 with all its different classes, powers, weapons, and enemies allows for a WIDE RANGE of general philosophy on strategical & tactical approach to various situations, and you wouldnt even begin to believe some of the things I've taken from these boards and been able to convert to basic strategic philosophy, applicable to more than just this game. With so many different minds at work here (usually very intellectual ones), I get to see how others think, exposing me to a lot of different psychologies.

Not to mention, I do love all the videos and information people offer here as well, and generally people are very respectful about it as well.

So thank you to everyone who posts in this section with insightful posting and general advice. I hope other people appreciate all the info that comes from this section even 1/10th as much as I do. Its awesome that I'm able to fullfil two hobbies/interests at the same time.

*edit add* If mods want to delete or move this, go ahead, I wasnt sure where else to put it. (Its not actually on the game itself I understand, but its about this section)

I agree with you, Ares. I've learned so much from people like, sinosleep, AverageGatsby,ThisIsMe, just to name a few. They are a fountain of information. Without them and their video's, I don't know what I'd do. I tend to read and watch a video opposed to asking questions. I've had the game since the day it came out. Got all the DLC's. And, I'm still learning.

"Half-hearted aggression/boldness in action, is merely shielded timidity, rarely resulting in the desired objective being accomplished." -Ares Caesar

The phrase came to mind earlier today when browsing (I believe it was) sinosleeps shotgun engineer thread and everyone commenting on his aggressive playstyle and how it actually seemed to produce better results than not committing fully to charging in boldly and decisively.

Interesting saying.

I'm still learning how to play aggresivly......lol

I tend to stay behind a crate or wall and let my powers or squadmates do the talking for me. But, I do have my moments of bravery. I cannot for the life of me fire a shotgun. I'm so used to the Locust. Sniper Rife I can do. But, anything else. I get turned into Swiss Cheese.

I don't remember the last time I visited a forum that wasn't this one. It's my intent to be a go-to player at some point in the vein of Average Gatsby, sinosleep, ThisIsMe, and others like them, because it really makes me happy to know that there are other people who play the game and pick apart every slightest nuance, just like I do.

I'm happy to find a game I enjoy playing. All the video's and information/suggestions/advice is pure gravy to me. I'm like a sponge when it comes to all this. The last time I played a game this much was, Diablo II:Lord Of Destruction.

I'm visiting this place about every hour to find more intel.

I dont know if I want to seek that level of fame here (merely because my life wont allow it), but I remember what it was like to be "that guy" in a game many years ago, and more importantly what I REALLY remember & miss was how awesome it was to have other people like that sharing their views and insight, and how, when all thrown into a "think tank", you could develop ideas that often transcended what the game developers themselves expected to come from their own game. Thats what I missed most, and quickly have seen it again here.

I have a pretty big library of games, but because of work and other issues (and other interests) I rarely got to play them, and after I started playing Mass Effect 2, I've hardly had the interest in playing any other game because they all lack something that I love about Mass Effect in one way or another. I bought Halo Reach thinking I would actually play it a lot, when in reality its mostly sat and collected dust (at least I got a $20 gift card for it, lol)

And yeah I played Diablo 2 to death. Mass Effect 2 is probably one of the few games that inspires as much love as I had for that game.

And about aggression in play, heh, I struggle with it myself a lot, in fact mostly in everything I do because I'm a very cautious person in action and place high importance on prudence in decisions (Too many hotheads out there). However, there are times where even I can clearly see the faults in my own half hearted boldness, if I had simply pushed a bit harder and not worried so much about what *might* go wrong, rather than what will go right if I did commit, I might have actually succeed in my objective. I've been on both sides of the issue enough to see that when I have commited to boldness in action, the rewards of doing so.

Let me just add that this was also really inspired today because as a fan of mixed martial arts, and football(I've got several TB's of video saved away), and as such a poster on related boards, those interests do not have the same % of people interested in the strategical aspects of it (sadly, more for the brutality), and only after a couple weeks here, I've seen more intellectual discussion take place than I've seen in probably a years worth of posting on those forums.

I've really forgotten how much gamers love to apply their intellect to defeating and creating strategies towards games.

Anyway, I dont want to turn what I just said into a discussion about those sports here (though I'd welcome ANY discussion about them via PM), just perhaps explain my reasoning.

Thanks again you guys/gals.

I love these forums. Work made it so that I wasn't able to post here for a few months but I've since gotten back into it like it was February all over again. I'm just glad that bioware decided to make a separate strategy forum to go along with general. Sometimes you got so much noise in general that it would drown out the good posts, with this forum being more focused and with the volume not so loud it made for a much easier place to get different takes on every class in the game which has really extended the replay value of ME 2 for me. So thanks to everyone that makes this place what it is.

It's a great place to discover new ways to play Mass Effect, without the forum I wouldn't be playing ME2 anymore, but thanks to all the people around here there's always something new and different to try. Keep posting and keep sharing!

Word.  Actually scratch that, ESIV:Oblivion was a game inbetween DII and the ME series that I also played this much and was a regular on the forums (except with Oblivion, it was only because of the modding).  All the guides, builds, videos, and discussions here have caused me to want to play through ME2 far more times then I originally planned.  First I thought, I'd just play through twice, then I decided I'd try every class on insanity, and now I can even tell you where the line will be drawn as I want to try out damn near every build varient that gets discussed here

Me too, both in regards to ES:Oblivion, and the value of these boards increasing the lifetime of Mass Effect 2.

People here have come up with SO many different ways to play, and different theories on attack strategies that I'd probably never have really thought of myself. I had only figured I might play 2-3x total (and probably one of them being RIGHT before ME3 was released as a refresher), but now with all the ideas I've gotten from these boards, I've seen so many different and exciting ways to play that I'm pretty sure I'll play every class at least 2x.

Half the fun of Mass Effect is that after you've played through a couple times, the intensity/learning curve slows down, and you can sit back and just enjoy the gameplay, rather than being so worried about every little decision you make on your first couple playthroughs.

With the ability to save at almost anytime, I like the fact I can simply play a section quickly, save, and go do something, or if I'm just waiting around for something for 15-30 minutes, I can just jump in and jump out, and since I've beat the game already its not like I'm DYING to know whats going to happen next.

Maybe I should even make a "thank you to the developers" but I'd like to think the fact we all post here like crazy and think about the game this much, is as much of a "thank you" that the developers can get.

I really like the tips offered by everyone. I played shadow broker last night with adept on insanity ( previously beat it with soldier ) and had a lot of trouble with the last fight. With soldier was able to get shields down with geth shotgun so it wasn't too hard. But adept - no sheid power and I brought the avalanche so no help there. One of you guys had posted that you got to the stairs to play keep-away and took shots at him to wear the shields down gradually ( if you stay on the floor you get killed ). Would have taken me forever to figure that out.

I too would like to extend a thank you to all the players who not only put a ton of time into unraveling the games little mysteries, but also take the time and effort to share your experiences and answer questions.

Ah, I thought I'd seen your name before somewhere - you did the S.P.A.M. levelling mod, amongst others.

Anyway, on topic - yes many thanks to the people who put in the effort to upload videos/ share strategies on this forum, for the likes of me (too lazy to contribute ;) - or rather just not wanting to put the time into it) to sample and enjoy.

Indeed. I would never, ever have played through the game 8-9 times, and then return to it after the summer with all this new DLC, if it wasn't for the collective creative resource of these boards.

Here here! This is by far my favorite forum.  There are a lot of helpful tips and posts, not to mention an extremely supportive group of  posters.

I agree. It's nice to get away from the other forums, filled with complainers and trolls, to hear the opinions, tips and strategies of people who actually enjoy the game as I do.
