There's some really good advice being tossed out in this thread. The only thing I'd disagree with is avoiding Arrow of Slaying. It is *the* most powerful attack in the game, across all classes. Higher levels (15 and up) have a really good chance of one-shottinng normal mobs with AoS. If you look at my profile you'll see my "Greatest Damage Dealt" is 757 pts. Granted, this toon is a level 24 now and I've got some gear that's beefed up my stats thanks to the drops from a mod called Random Age, but even prior to using that mod, I could easily get AoS to do 300 to 400 points of damage at around level 20.

AoS is nice but not as powerful as Greatest Damage might suggest, because it only does big damage against whities. It is handy for a mob with a normal mage you stealth and one-shot, but it makes it to the top of my priority list too late to be useful. By the time I've got Lethality, Deft Hands, Master Stealth, Master Archer, Scattershot, Song of Courage and Pinpoint Strike, I'm at the Final Battle.

This mod provides a fix for rock barage as well as fixes for many other bugs. You can pick and choose the ones you need: http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=1601

Thank you for that link, i'll try it out and hopefully it fixes the problem.

For anyone wondering... for defense, defensive fire mode + master archery adds +30 to defense... great for those special situations where you are alone, like the fade, or you're just generally feeling vulnerable... or you drew a crap load of aggro (like from scattershot)

which brings me to, scattershot gives you a crapload of aggro, later on it's not that big of a deal at least for me since mobs dont take long to kill but when your damage sucks in the beginning... and you draw too much aggro it might be a problem unless Sten/Shale/Alister can draw attention back to them.

in bohdan's shop... the store is reloaded after the first visit... if you can somehow afford the tombs then you can potentially get 2 of the tombs of physical technique... i usually raise money by being evil.... i know it's sad but hey a Warden's gotta eat. just a note, you can get 1 sov from the bandits if you tell them to give you everything they stole, plus 20 silver if you can persuade him not to attack you and you instead demand money from him (initial conversation pre-fight). Bohdan also gives money for rescuing him, 1sov there too... plus... ever since they gimped the blood dragon armor i sell that crap too.

The problem I have with Arrow of Slaying is that if I can two-shot white enemies with autoattack, why would I wait more than time than that to one-shot them with an ability that apparently also reduces mana regen afterwards, costs stamina and is on a cooldown?

That's the problem with archery special attacks in general. You have to aim for a ridiculously long time. On the other hand, melee special attacks are instant.

That, and archer special attacks mostly aren't that great. Scattershot of course is awesome, miles above every other archery skill out there and one of the best skills in the game.

I feel the same way about archery special attacks, just not worth the trade-off in time spent aiming... and AoS has this insane mana regen penalty... people tend to only use it for one shotting mages (you're screwed if there's more than one mage) fine i guess if you're running a crew with no mages, but if you have a mage in the party then Mana Clash (w/ spell might) is actually superior and higher DPS than any spec'd archer with AoS against any mage/demon class enemies plus it's an AoE power.

I think there's a video of Wynn one shotting Gaxkang with spell might for a grand total of 4000+ damage

Shattering Shot is great for KD effect, as well as a possible anti-buffing effect. Pinning Shot appears to keep one target in place for a while while you work on other foes. Etc. Each appears to have a purpose, though some may not always be needed as others.

I am content with the archer package, and do nt see the need for mods that add additional RoF speed.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Do you get back stabs in archery? Is coupe de grace useless ?

2) what are the most important attributes for archery?

3) What is the best armor?

1. Arrows don't get a backstab bonus but you can still get a critical bonus.

2. First and foremost dexterity followed by either cunning with lethality or strength.

3. In my opinion it is the Battledress of the Provocateur.

3. Battledress, Felons Coat, Evons Mail, and Wade's Superior lines.

1) Yep, uselss. But flanking bonuses apply so combat movement might be useful.

2) In Origins rogues can be effective different ways:

cunning - 22 (stealth), 30 (locks) or max

dex - 30 (talents) or max

str - enough to wear the armor you want, less bonuses from accessories

3) armor - light or heavy have the best.

In Awakenings, dex ftw - accuracy is insanely powerful.

These effects are unlikely to work well on strong enemies, and debuffing in general is not a big deal. When you can just kill something, why debuff it slightly and then kill it? Why use a knockdown effect on a simple enemy? I think the special effects may make sense on a few special enemies, mainly mages, but apart from that they're not too good.

It would just make sense if archer special attacks fired immediately.

Shattering shot stays in my tactics throughout. Pinning shot is handy to start but fades when AoE attacks become available.

The new Awakening archery skills are pretty fun by the way. The rain of arrows thing doesn't seem to work all that well, but the burst shot does a lot of damage.
