Choices would be fine if they did not intrude in my gameplay.  The nature of these types of games is that there are a few armor models that everyone uses.  If these were to be included, then I would eventually have to put up with them on Random Guard #37 and it would entirely break immersion.

Great. Now I have the Oblivion Guards chasing after me in tight underwear stuck in my head.

So we can't be adults by dressing like we want?

You can dress as you want. Just don't expect to get armor for wearing basically nothing.

the dragonage and mass effect games were very mature regarding sexuality. especially in dragonage where sex scenes composed of man thong wearing knights and thong wearing witches rubbed against eachother in attempt to have sex whilst wearing the underwear.

srsly, you guys should be more concerned about the man thongs...is hawke going to be wearing a man thong...? i mean, having a man thong ride up ur arse is srsly incovienient in rl life, how the hell would you fight whilst wearing a man thong when t keeps riding up your arse. easier to clean, i guess.

-hawke strips down his man thong, on a windy day-

Not to mention mabari and mages wearing robes that get stabbed all the time. I think wearing skimpy armor would be more effective and life saving than robes, even if just by an inch.

One defeats the purpose of the other. You wear robes for magical enhancement. You wear armor to protect yourself, which is why wearing teeny not-there armor doesn't make a lot of sense from most perspectives.

As to why women might choose to wear more modest robes over revealing ones? Common decency, modesty, warmth, practicality?

In the scenario presented in OP, there are logical reasons for characters to dress sparingly. For characters like Morrigan and Miranda, it makes sense. But I don't see why there should be armor on men that fully covers them while armor on females bares a good portion of their chest and midriff, like Dalish armor.

When done gratuitously and only for fanservice, I don't want to see it. Women play this game too. You can have your fanservice in the form of Morrigans and Mirandas. I don't think armor should be skimpy just because guys get greedy with their fanservice. You want fanservice? Go play DOA.

Why does everything have to turn into "Women vs Men" or "Men just want the game to appeal to them" with you?

I never said anything about women wearing skimpy armor, I didn't even use the word "women."  I never said anything about women wearing revealing robes or anything.

All I said was that if someone stabbed you randomly with a sword 9/10 the "skimpy armor" is better to have than mage robes. That's it.

Er...sorry, I only intended the first paragraph directly at you. Then it sort of directed at what's currently going on in the thread.

You're right, of course. I don't agree with you (as I said in that paragraph, they defeat the purpose of wearing robes), but you yourself mentioned nothing about women or men. I did, and I wasn't directing at you. I should've clarified, I apologize.

You know, I ACTUALLY like this idea. If a person is going to wear little armor then have a good reason for them not to. Although if a player wanted their character to be someone who thought armor was for wimps that would also be reason enough. I don't to much care for the scantily-clad armors (male or female) but I don't think it's bad to have in the game. It's no reason for anyone to get upset really; if you do not like that armor don't wear it. Some people like skimpy armor, why should they not have some things in the game for them? Anyway, this is a neat idea and should be implemented into future titles, whether some people agree with it or not.

The good folk at Bioware generally disagree. I forget who said it, but one of the devs didn't much like the idea of the bikini plate mail armor.

My OP was never about plate bikinis, but about giving warriors an extra option based with a bit of justification for it. Like I said earlier, the picts and celts beleived that their woad warpaint gave them magical protection, and this is already in the game in the form of Kaddis for the Mubaris. I've also thrown the beserker thing in there for extra variety.

Ok, it might result in a bit of flesh, but what's the big deal?  Warrior/heroic epics have always had a good measure of rippling abs and slab-like pecs in them. Do we have some sort of double standard where we can't see a female warrior physique without wanting to throw a blanket over it? Seems a bit chauvenistic, if you ask me. Posted Image

Didn't assert an opinion, dude. Just implied that scantly clad warriors - regardless of sex - isn't likely due to dev preferences. If it happens, hey, it happens. I won't b*tch so long as it's done tastefully and with reasoning behind it.

As has been said, you have mabaris wearing no armor, mages wearing robes, and dragons who should rightfully be able to obliterate you in one blow, so why is it okay to accept these unrealisms for the sake of gameplay, but not a person in a chainmail bikini surviving a sword swing?

Dave of Canada wrote...

And then complain about skimpy armor...wow seriously.

I'll complain about it because people are being immature and want eye candy for the sake of eye candy. I want to be treated as an adult, not some hormone controlled teenager.

...And I think this is the real crux of it. I am generally loathe to talk about maturity on these forums, so I will simply say that I find chainmail bikinis distasteful, and not fitting thematically with Dragon Age. It's not as simple as "don't wear it." It still exists in the game as a viable piece of armor. Already unacceptable.

Exactly, I don't know why we're even having this. No one is gonna get cool armor anyways, unless is a repainting of an earlier armor. If there is new armor in this game, they'll make it so it's really cool and not in either extreme.

Already unacceptable.

Oh well.

Um, no. You selfish person. Look at your tone. It's basically saying "**** you". Common decency and modesty? Who gives a **** about that? Especially in video games. I play these things because the stupid **** that we see in real life aren't there.

Choices. Let the player have a choice of letting their femhawks and companions have loin clothes and fur bras. Just like girls have the right to play a man hawke with no top and washboard abs.

These are both at the Dev's discretion however.

I do recall you being the person who made, like, four posts about how "OMG HERE COME THE RAGING FANGIRLS US MEN WHO ARE SANE DUCK AND COVER!". You were trying to pick a fight from the get-go.

EDIT: I can't figure out why the quotation won't go back up with the rest of the sentence.

Yes, I was being a troll back then, just to prove a point. I am however being very serious now. If there were ever a game from Bioware where they make unmodest armor, for both sexes, then it's just a choice.

Don't like it, don't wear it. You'll get practical armor too.

Right now however, we're only mostly getting practical armor cause of budget and armor itself won't really be that different.

But at least we got bigger boobs in the game. Whether every female has them, or just some that is yet to be seen.

I do think, for the sake of argument, that if they were to have chainmail bikinis, then they could have equivalent shirtless Conan the Barbarian-esque "armors" for males. So I dunno about it being a gender issue.

How very lovely. This well-composed argument, both tactful and respectful, urges me to listen to NKKKK's ideas with an open mind, and not treat him like a young child. Later, I shall offer him tea and biscuits.

I object to the bikini having an armor rating like it's an actual suit of armor. If it doesn't, that's fine. I support the right of players to gimp their characters any way they want to.

Sure, why not. Personally, I just dislike it when something skimpy has the best ratings in the game forcing me to wear it. Fanservice should not come at the expense of gameplay. I remember KotOR2 had the dancer's outfit that would give a charisma bonus (possibly just to men, IIRC). If you know what I mean. I was okay with that. Of course it was for fanservice, but I didn't need to wear it, and if guys wanted to use it to ogle at the women, fine, whatever. It wasn't interfering with my enjoyment of the game.

I thought it was kind of a given that it would have the armor rating of a robe, barring any magical enchantment e.g. The Reaper's Vestments with +10 armor.

And I'm not really okay with it. As I said, I don't think it fits Dragon Age. Even if it is as realistic as robes in terms of affording no protection.

I don't think the two are very equivalent.  I don't follow the Conan universe, but I'd assume that his people did not have advanced metal working capabilities?  Someone mentioned earlier that such loose garb would be logically acceptable on a Chasind, both male as well as female, so the "Conan" equivalent would be underclothed Chasind.

The chainmail bikini is a paradox; any people with the capability to forge such a thing would be intelligent enough to know how useless it would be and, subsequently, never craft one.

I think it would be cool if on like Male Hawke you could go topless and just have gauntlets and some pants or something. Was a thing for me in the first game I wanted to go topless but you couldn't do that without going pantless. and then you can have body tattoos

Now let's complain about something we all have a beef with, armor budget cuts.
