I can not survive against this woman.... she reminds me off Gorion from BG. Is this event even possible?
Even if you die, the story progresses, but i refuse to go that route I don't do dying lol =P Kind of silly when you slay dragons in no time and can't beat her cause she hits for 125 damage lmao and sunders one's armor.... and has 10 back up archers....

Has anyone had luck with this or is it a lost cause?

*Edit* Thanks Mod for the move.

You should post things like this in the spoilers forum, even if you have the warning in the title.

*spoilers below*

If you kill her, you skip the prison. If you get killed, you do the prison and you encounter her later (where you have to win or it is game over). And yes, she is very tough and can one-shot anything but the tank (at least on Hard, which is what I was playing on).

Thanks for the heads up =]

Do you have any good strategies? I just can't figure out how to beat her, except maybe that curse that imposes misses except on criticals.

you could try just talking your way out of the situation and not having to fight her at all...

Just go peacefully and she'll let your companions go and send you to jail without a fight

Same with the fight later on, where with high enough skills for persuasion(no intimidating on female-Minsc sadly), you can skip the fight.

Does she have her own Boo?

You really SHOULD skip the first fight because the whole prison scene is imho one of the best parts of the game (who sent oghren and the dog to save you knows what I mean).

You cannot have Cauthrine as a companion.

Leliana/Morrigan is a nice combination.

I sent Morrigan/Oghren in. It was fairly amusing when he was ragging on her acting skills.

Is it possible to negotiate through the second confrontation? I had two bonus dialogue options and I chose [Persuade] which led to a fight.

The fight is easily won, I know a lot of people will say that about a lot of fights, but this one in particular it is true. Remember where you got Anora? As soon as the fight begins take your entire party and high tail it to that room. With enough time you can even set traps in the door. Even without that though it'll only be her and a couple of others, zero archers and you just smash her into kibbles and bits. Sten finished her with a two handed sword swing it was epic. Congrats on your new 2 handed sword.

Its a difficult fight if you let the archers get off their chain Scattershots. Easiest way to avoid this is to CC as many of them asap with Sleep and/or Waking Nightmare. I Sleep the left group of archers, Waking Nightmare the right group, then Crushing Prison the center Mage with focused direct dmg on it, I use an Arrow of Slaying and some Winter's Grasp. Very important to take the Mage out, otherwise it'll try and heal everyone.

Have your tank and main heal pull Ser Cautherine into the hallway, you can try to land a Force Field on her but she is very resistant to everything. Then try and get a Blizzard or other heavy AoE off into the room that will dmg and also CC everything left in there. I also toss a Walking Bomb or two on the groups of archers which basically ensures they all die once the first one does. The only real risk is the chain Scattershots imo, although Ser Cautherine can do a lot of damage, its typically not enough to KO your tank unless its taking dmg from other sources too (like Crit Arrow or Arrow of Slaying).

No way! =P I refuse to roll like that i will keep at it until i destroy her! then I will AoE nuke the hell out of her entourage!

My main problem with fighting her is that i am completeley unable to tank her.... She hits Alistiar for 127 damage ... i didn't even know it can go that high lmao... He is wearing the best armor i could get my hands on, and i have been playing that game for 65+ hours so far, exploring every inch. I am loaded with gear, but still she takes him out in no time and never misses. I guess i am going to have to try aggressive pot tactics.... I really hate using pots =P good thing i never got rid of my stockpile of 150+ pots.

I got destroyed the first time I tried fighting her. Didn't feel like it was appropriate that I got sent to prison so went back to try the fight another way.

I found that if you run back down the hall you come from the moment the fight starts you can usually avoid being stunned by the archers; if they hit you it's pretty much over.

Of the entire group only Cath and the 3(?) melee fighters chase you down the hall. In my case, I had Alistar taunt them then cast Force Field on him. Sure he can't hit back, but he won't take damage either - and the enemies don't seem to care to change targets. After that I picked off the 3 minions, recasting Force Field when it would wear off, then slowly whittled her down.

After that it was a simple matter of tossing a tempest/blizzard/firestorm at the archers and cleaning up the one or two left overs.

Walking (or was it waking?) nightmare and heal, heal, heal. Picking off the lesser npc's first.

I think I went through my entire stash of health potions during that fight (had three left, out of fifty-something). A lot of pausing and reloading was required and in retrospective thinking I'd choose not to fight just to not have to go through the problems of getting her down, but what can I say - I'm stubborn.

Always retreat and try to pull the mobs to you so you gain the advantage. Aoe disables/damage for the small mobs, and single target disables for Catherine. Had no problem at all with the fight on hard.

Didn't realise I missed out on part of the game by doing that however, though I find it hard to justify surrendering at that part of the game when you have worked up such a huge amount of hatred towards Loghain and his mindless minions.

I put it down to easy and AoEd the entire room. It was a freezing earthquake of thundering clouds of death.

And she still defeated all three of my companions before I knocked her out with a Arcane Warrior sword slash.

Well all of my party members, well the ones that can, get poison-making so I just throw like 16 bombs at the archers and then worry about couple by the door and her.
