I'd actually really like it if DA took a cue from MMOs and let you move the UI elements around to your liking on the PC version. That'd be cool.

I wonder if the square portraits are placeholders? I really liked Origins' round portraits a lot more than DA2 ones. The more I look at these, the more generic they look.

Again, what else is there to go on? I'm going by what I'm seeing.
Well you could take into account that this is an isolated action scene from a purposefully exaggerrated part of the game on a console. If you think Bioware will skimp on the story then you obviously don't know Bioware.
Combat has been sped up but in DAO combat as a 2H warrior was pretty bad. I don't think I'll be missing dual wield on warriors.

Yes, it's the console version shown. The devs have made repeated reference to a quickbar in the PC version, and there's no quickbar shown in this clip. Also the action icons are clearly labeled with Xbox buttons. Granted some people who don't own an Xbox may not understand what they're looking at.
I mean...yikes. I hope people are aware this isn't the PC version. If not, there's a real problem with their powers of perception.

Well... One thing I didn't like (despite it's being the 360 version)

And Lady Hawke resting the edge on her shoulder? Shouldn't it be the flat side?

But don't you think it's big even for the console version? Your party will have 4 members... Imagine 2 more of those portraits on your screen.
And as I said, I'm a PC gamer and I hope we will get a less polluted UI. But my brother played it DA:O on PS3 and I showed him the video, the first thing he complaint was the portraits.
Well sure the demo isn't the final version, so they can already have changed that.

Were they allowed to post that?
But looks cool. I like the mini-map.
And character selection reminds me of Quest for Glory.

I don't think it's any larger than the version of Dragon Age Origins for 360. If you thought that UI was obtrusive as well, then I can handle that, at least the opinion is consistent. I posted a screenshot (granted it's low-res and crappy quality from a youtube video) of the DAO Xbox UI, and asked anyone to explain how the new UI objects are worse. I understand not liking the health bars, I would agree that the circular format for health and stamina/mana in DAO are more compact, but that character panel still had a large rectangular area for displaying the characters' current commands, so I don't see how the new format actually overlaps the old format's footprint in any significant way.
I'm still curious if anyone can take the two images side by side and show me how the new console UI as it is is more cluttered. I understand people don't like the portraits on the bottom left, but given how tall the portrait display was in DAO for a full party, I think it's unlikely to obscure any more action than the old UI.
I would agree with whoever said they hope the PC UI is more flexible and modular. I really hated having a single row of quickbar that was limited by my screen's resolution...ridiculous.

It's storytelling. It's supposed to be trying to make Hawke look like a badass.

Okay I just cut+pasted together what a 4-party character portrait UI may look like in DA2 and pasted it into a comparison shot of DAO for Xbox. I'm not seeing how the new UI is any more bulky than the last.![]()
Yes, it's on the bottom left but it's actually much more compact than the old team panel, and obscures less of the viewable area.
I dunno. I just think the complaints are at least a little bit overstated.

Not that I think you care, but here goes: I'm not opposing DA2 on principle - my comment was exactly how I felt. What I saw in this video has still not convinced me DA2 is a game I want to play. It looks an awful lot like God of War now and I steer clear of those kinds of games for a reason. I just don't enjoy them. Of course, seeing a series I was really into suddenly becoming something I'm only half-way into (the lore, characters etc) is disheartening.
My feelings exactly.

Please give us 1 UI toggle. I Don't expect 2 options or 3 options, just give us 1 option to toggle the UI on or off.
All or nothing, on or off. I hate all Bioware game UI, because all Bioware games are story drive and in every game, the UI is immersion-breaking.
Stop hampering your own story telling by putting intrusive floating heads on screen, give us core players the option to toggle it off! Please!
