Combat seems pretty close to Divinity 2, overall, save for the manual dodging.

#1: That freakin' sword is too... bulky? wide? I'm not complaining about its length, rather its width, it looks like when some wide-screen vid gets scaled to full-screen crap, length is good, width is ****.
#2: Exaggerated part... yep I get it, no problem there, I just hope the real part doesn't turn out the same and that these exaggerated parts are few and far between.
#3: Graphics? I'll reserve judgment till I see higher resolution official gameplay vids.
Overall I'm not happy about what I saw, but I understand it's too early to make a decision anyway so I'll wait for more info.

Dude, it's the console version. PC keyboards don't have round colored buttons labelled A, B, X, and Y. Xbox 360 does. And somewhere else in this thread Mr. Laidlaw was talking about the PC version quickbar. Don't cherry-pick quotes.
I was not cherry picking quotes. I was not saying the UI was the same. In fact, I said they look the same (except the UI). People were complaining about the visuals, I was saying that won't change between the two versions. Like the swords, how the exaggerated scene looks, how the attack moves look, etc.
I said it was the console version being shown.

Oh that's right, ogres don't exist either. Remove them or Dragon Age will be ruined by all this unrealistic fantasy crap that wasn't in the first game.
But yes. Gameplay vid. I've watched it a few times while reading over the thread to look at different things, and frankly, my excitement just got pushed up about tenfold. I do have two nitpicks with the people on this forum, though, and you'll have to pardon me if I come off in the least bit snippy because it's 3 in the morning and I can't sleep.
- The complaining about the HUD. I distinctly remember that this game is still in development. Almost as clearly as I remember the horrendous HUD from the early Mass Effect 2 videos. It'll change, and it's likely to be just as gorgeous and manageable as in DA:O. Hopefully. I have faith.
- The sword. Yes, it's wide. Yes, she swings it around like she's wielding a butter knife. But this is also one of Varric's exaggerated portions of the story. I remember reading about the combat changing for the opposite when the story is being told by someone who dislikes Hawke (whether it's another narrator or if Varric ends up hating you, I dunno!), so, uh, enjoy THAT, guys.
When it comes to my opinion of the vid itself, though, I have to admit that Lady Hawke's animations in the Choose Your class screen made me lol. True, she was just doing what m!Hawke was doing, but she looked like a flexing wrestler. Eep! Otherwise, I am so on the Lady Hawke fantrain. SO ON IT. Do want. Game tiem nao pls.

I can't believe how unrealistic the sword looks. Also, elves and dragons? And Bethany casting fireballs? Those things aren't real, get rid of them or Dragon Age will be ruined forever.
What do you mean it's unrealistic to get in a fistfight with an Ogre and win? How dare you use realism and ogre in the same sentence!
The point being that just because we suspend disbelief regarding fantastical elements such as dragons and magic does not imply that all realism considerations are automatically invalid. It's true that swords were already pretty big (unrealistically so) in Origins, but if they're making them even bigger in this one, pointing out that that's even less realistic than before is not all that ridiculous. Although I may have been wrong in my initial judgment of the comparative size of the sword, as previously mentioned.

i'm okay with oversized swords, i even love the one from berserk (no joke that it is called the dragon slayer).
as long as they are unique and one of a kind (which means that you wouldn't see enemies like normal soldiers wielding that thing)

Like Magic, that needs removing... so instead of Mage Origin we have 'Crazy Person who thinks they are Harry Potter' Origin.marshalleck wrote...

Darkspawn don't exist either, let's just replace them with 'ugly people' so the battle of Ostagar is about the 'Beautiful People' vs 'Ugly People'
Back on topic, it'd be cool if when they do show some 'non-exaggerated' gameplay footage if they put it alongside the 'exaggerated' footage so you can truly see the difference. Although I imagine there is going to be a fair difference, moreso possibly near the start of the game.

^^ ahm, this??? no ser, thank you, in comparison the DA2 swords look tiny now.
Anyway I still want the width to become smaller, if it won't change at least I know there's a sword model in game that I won't even touch.

This, so this. I just read through all the pages and was suprised no one had yet mentioned it. The man animations on her were a bit jarring. Also the super bulky rogues. But I'm sure that was just temporary (as Mike said the armor will be different in the final game). I'm glad we got to see femHawke at all!
I think the combat looks awesome. Maybe not throughout the whole game, but these parts are gonna make my sister and I feel like big goddamn heroes!

:whistle:see? now that da2 sword doesn't look as exaggerated now does it?
to be fair even in berserk's story it says that guts is the only human who could wield such a thing and compared it to a slab of iron. i wouldn't mind some hawke exclusive weapons myself

Just a suggestion BioWare, when you release an official gameplay video, make it of the PC version to "comfort" some people and make sure you micromanage the combat in that video.

It's always bothered me that they should have to placate the people not patient enough to wait until they're ready to release the PC version. It's part of the reason BW fans (well, BW forumites, at least) are so damn spoiled. Myself included; not calling anybody out there.DarthCaine wrote...

If they release the PC version too soon, people will still be ****ing about everything. Like how the HUD is taking up too much of the screen, despite (probably) being nothing near the final version.

Like I said, I don't care much personally, but some people would be more comfortable in the setting if the sword-human comparison was more like how we already see the sword-human comparison.

It's not about spoiling people, it's really about damage control and making sure people don't get the wrong idea about their game. Even if they do still ****, at least it won't be ****ing about things that are fundamental and game breaking.

In a very weird way, the current female body model reminded me the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei 3, with the stick legs and ridiculously thin waist.

Personally, I feel as though if a slightly thick sword model is all there is to complain about, this game is gonna be awesome. Especially considering DA:O used worse.DaerogTheDhampir wrote...

Indeed. How dare the early demos of the game be flawed in any way... [sarcasm]
