My thoughts:

I'm hoping thats a placeholder character select screen or something done up just for the demo (probably)

Dear God, why is the two handed sword taller than Hawke? Really? What is this, Final Fantasy? I mean, really, that two hander is literally as tall as female Hawke. Is the weapon size exaggerated too?....*sigh*

The animations seem smoother

The darkspawn  look like spikey  S&M Chalkspawn except now they move like the Winged Monkeys from the Wizard of Oz or like the Putties from Power Rangers...not too threatening.

I seriously hate having the portraits with their giant health/mana/stamina bars shoved in the bottom left corner blocking your view of the combat. I hope thats a temporary UI....

I know its the exaggerated part but Hawke is swinging that massive sword like its nothing. I mean come on, its literally bigger than her and yet she is swinging it like a cheerleader twirling a baton! There is no sense of weight and heft to it. She might as well be swinging an imaginary sword.

The blood looks more liquid-y

I know its the exaggerated part, but Hawke moves waaaaaay too quickly in a very God of War type way with too much hopping and lightning fast sprinting....:mellow:

I'm hoping this isn't indicative of the "real" gameplay speed. Hmmm... kind of underwhelmed.

I guess I should clarify my gameplay video request: 

BioWare, release gameplay video from the "REAL" portion of DA2, not Varric's pipe dreams.

The animations and movements look kind of stiff with no real weight to them (who can swing a heavy, 2-handed sword as effortlessly as a whiffle bat?!), but other than that it looks great!

The graphics look much better than I thought they would. Very nice models and impressive backround details. The ground texture looks a bit low-res and blurry close-up, but seems quite crisp when the camera is further away.

Loved it. Still need to see more un-exaggerated gameplay, but I really liked what I've seen.

Lady Hawke is beautiful. Animations are beautiful as well.

Btw, am I the only one who actually LIKES the new Hurlocks? They look much more primal and violent to me.

I kinda liked the older darkspawn better, but the changes can be explained with "evolution" maybe

DMC had a huge influence on the Hack n' Slash genre. Bioware could have done a lot worse if that game was indeed the model for those melee animations. 


Devil May Cry did have very visually appealing animations. Hopefully though that's all they borrowed for that game.

So...that really looked like an action game. Ick. Hopefully that's just for the Varric exaggeration parts. Also, bodies exploding in a shower of blood is something I could do without. The sword is a bit large, as well. Also, Hawke apparently has an early prototype of MegaMan's dash ability...which looks completely silly.



That said, the animations were nice and I actually like the area. It looks dead and desolate, which I think is kind of the point. Overall, the graphics were very pretty.



I'd really like to see an example of non-exaggerated gameplay now. Given that I assume the vast majority of the game isn't exaggerated, I can only hope that it isn't so action-gamey as that appears to be.

This looks great, the change of pace and increased gore is awesome. I wish they would've had mage available though, it's what i'd like to see the most.

Wait.. wtf is this.. this is not dragon age.. this is like onimusha. Also are you telling me we get no choice in how we want our charcter to look? female shepard looks like the male shepard without the beard.

As far I know these are the basic looks, and you can costumize it just like in ME

The animations seem nice, just totally lacking in any sense of weight or gravity. Seeing warrior Hawke practically teleport and do her little Hulk slam was very much reminiscent of God of War/Devil May Cry.

If thats how fast combat is in the "real" portions of the game, that seems to goofy and exaggerated to me unless BioWare is aiming to make it a hack and slash like God of War/Devil May Cry

I liked them 25 years ago when they were in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

I don't know where this "real and not real game" issue came from, as far I understand the game will be 90% or 100% told by the dwarf, similar how in Alpha Protocol the main character is questioned and you play while the story continues, thus I think the battle will always be great like this with superb swords like that, and I really don't see why Bioware would waste time and effort on making "unreal" specific animations anyway.

Seriously now, that's looking kick-ass. Way over-the-top too, but I assume this is just Varric's exagerated tale. I like what we see of the rogue armor in this video, much better looking than what we've seen so far and what was there in Origins.

It doesn't have to make the game feel less epic or make the lead feel more invincible. God of War was very good at putting you in your place when it came to boss fights. (at least the first was.)

So long as the story stays grounded, I don't see the atmosphere changing all that much.

As said I doubt there is a "real and unreal" seperate animations and such, but I do like that sword on the picture, I want to scare the sh*t out of my enemy just by them looking at what my char is capable to wield. :D

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it was from one of Varic's exageration moments in the game. And it was awesome.

You mean Lady Hawke and Male Hawke? Oh, in 10 minutes some Lady Hawke's fangirl will tear you apart. Run.

But we do can customize our characters, but only the face and name. That's just the demo. Also, the console controls will be different from PC controls. And that's a exageration of Varric, the story-teller, in the end of the battle they stop being so overpower, I suppose.

Sorry if I'm saying the obvious, anyway.

I think this is what we are going to get in terms of gameplay. I don't like the giant sword either, and I'm assuming the character select screen and interface are either console versions or more likely placeholders.

But I'm impressed with the speed and movement. There simply is no reason to have battles take as long as they do in DAO. None whatsoever.

Clearly, there's hack n' slash influence that will turn some people off. If the rpg mechanics lurk beneath all this, I'm ok with it. But all the rpg goodness, the abilities and tactics, absolutely must be accessible to the player, not predetermined in any way by the computer. Really, this is my only concern for the game: streamlining.

There is a LOT of cheesy moves. Not to mention the ridiculous weapon and armor. Honestly, I do hope that warrior moves are going to improve alot from this when released.

However, it does seem that the pace of casting is much faster, which is quite cool.

Looking over the video, was it just me or was anyone else underwhelmed by Bethany's performance? Hawke looked great and was rightly the center of attention but Bethany seemed to not be doing anything but standing there. Maybe I'm reading to much into this.
