I don't think the swords looked THAT bad. They were on the big side, but they didn't strike me as that much bigger than the two handed weapons in Origins.
Point is-- that for some (me included), that was a problem.

agreed, I think it should have been even bigger, but that is just a personal opinion (but then again, aren't all our comments personal opinions?)andar91 wrote...

Holy crap guys, I am sincerely confounded that some of you can't get past the size of Hawke's sword to see how the game has improved aesthetically in nearly every direction.

She did at least cast one fireball. It is one of the fastest and smoothest spell casting I've ever seen in my gaming history.
It's also all she did.
She did used some Spirit Bolt.

And in Lady Hawke's hand, it looks like a blood elf wielding a WoW ridiculous greatsword. Some people say that's awesome. To each their own I guess.andar91 wrote...

Um... not necessarily?

I seriously hope that was the console version(looked like that) and that PC version is nothing like that.
One of the devs said, lots and lots and lots and (...) lots of times that the gamplay of the console version and the PC version would be different. In the PC version we can still do everything we did in Origins, it's just that this doesn't work really well in the console version, I guess.

If aesthetics were my big thing in an rpg I would so not even be here right.

Well, one has to expect that the forums will pick over every single aspect of something like this, with people coming down on one side or the other. Overall this is what I would consider a fairly positive response from the forums overall. It'll be interesting to see how it differs to an official video.

I honestly have an easier time putting words into what I dislike. Although what I liked about the video vastly outweighs what I did not like, it's so much easier for me to say "Hey, that sword is ridiculous".
Also, wow, facial animations look much more detailed. Much more lifelike than DAO. I'm impressed with the character models.

Can we please have "Upgradeable" armors and weapons? so that if we like our older equipment we can improve them instead of picking a newer one, or perhaps transfer abilities from other items to our older ones? I liked that in the later NWN1 expansions and mods a lot. If this isn't possible then please allow armorers and weaponsmiths make items with the looks as they prefer

To be fair, the size of that sword was kinda like the first thing you (at least, I) noticed.
I couldn't take my eyes off it since the PC flourished it in character selection.

It might just be some people never liked this stuff in other games they've seen it.
I for one have always hated giant swords. Fortunately I've been forced to deal with it so often I've internalized it so that it manifests itself as bitterness towards big things in general.
Don't know why i brought that up.

Sure, some of the animations in Origins are pokey, but if that gameplay video is indicative of the overall speed of combat in DA2, it would seem that sort of entirely negates the point of pause and play. If you can breeze through the combat like a cheetah loaded on crack and red bulls, where is the strategy in that?
In ME2, you can pause and play all you want to set up a well thought out strategy. I love that about the game. But because the action can get so fast and furious, you simply have to be quicker to pause than you do in DA, much quicker. Bioware is blurring the line between old school turn-based tactics and real time play ( maybe I've been slow to come to this conclusion ). This is why I've brought up the topic of fast-twitch gameplay numerous times in regard to DA2. Granted, I'm speculating here.
I love thinking on the fly, personally. I plan better that way, clearer even. This style of fast paced gameplay is more suited to my style.

The magic is indeed impressive, but the two-hander moves are everything but impressive. I can't get over those Fable 1, amateur and medicroe arpg like moves and I never will.svendigo wrote...
Magic's looking VERY smooth and quick in animation, unlike what we had in DA:O; characters actually attack swiftly and with grace and don't look like they're lumbering with a big tree trunk in their arms when they're wielding a 2-handed weapon (except for the size), and death animation (glory glory blood splatter!) is 9001 times better than what we got for DA:O.

For those curious, that video was not released by us. Obviously not. Our opening gameplay trailer would not be steadycam.

Hey, Mr. Laidlaw, the Whirldwind Lady Hawke used is the same of the Rogue Tree in Origins? I've never used this skill, actually, so I'd not know the difference.

No, the PC version looks pretty much exactly like that, and controls exactly like Origins. And it's awesome.
What did you think it was going to look like? Half the speed and with extra shuffle? Have we been unclear on our very strict non-shuffle policy? Sheesh!

What? What was so wrong about the video?
Also...I'm not sure what staff you're talking about?
