So... where are the "Jrpgs suck because of unrealistic, giant swords" folk at now? Eating their hats?

Probably still back in those DAO threads where they complained about the same thing.

The swords are still too big.

Bingo, I do the same thing, granted considering this is the 360 version its hard to judge how the PC version will differ. (god I hope it differ please please make it so) I would hope we still at least get some option of a tactical pull back in regards to camera options to survey the whole field, along with pause and play being still a viable option and have it not feel oddly paced due to the increased speeds.

If we can't have the high tactical camera (and I get that maybe we can't for technical reasons) I would hope they'd allow the low camera to be free-roaming rathar than always being tied to a character.

A free-roaming camera would serve the same function as the high camera, just without the BG nostalgia.

I still love you Fexy even if you do like JRPG's   To each their own.

I like JRPGS...Sometimes.

There you have it folks, no combos, now stop it with the Dynasty Warriors comparison

...

Since when did people compare it to Dynasty Warriors?

Since they began associating fast combat with hack and slash? I dunno.

Really, combat doesn't have to be slow to be suitable for an RPG.

True.

But it also doesn't have to be over the topic to capture a feeling of epicness, does it?

Depends how shallow you are when it comes to gameplay. I would be a little bummed out if the combat was as slow as Origins, only slightly smoother. Similarly, I'm content with the changes done with DA2, neither thrilled nor dissatisfied, because I know the focus will be the story.

I remember how annoyed and let down I was that KOTOR was an RPG and didn't have combat like Jedi Outcast (I stumbled upon it at the store and didn't do much research on it). But I became engrossed in the story and content with the combat the more I played it.

So a game is only as epic as you want it to be. Some want over the top gore and combat, some want realism, and others want numbers and tactics.

I hope we can adjust the location of the character portraits in battle, I'm not too keen on having them on the bottom of the screen. IMO it clogs up the action and makes it a little difficult to see whats going on.

I missed those threads. But I saw plenty on how Dragon Age was so infinitely superior to any jrpg because it didn't have giant swords in them... Some of them are still there in the off-topic forum, not so many pages back.

There are swords like that in many wRPGs. They usually are used as 2H swords unless there´s an especific skill to go 1H (Risen, NWN2). Is that the case here? (question, not rethorical).

I love the huge sword. It's pretty beast.

And pretty useless too....well if there are any physics in DA2. I wonder if we're going to be able to wear 2ft thick armor and helmets too, you know, it would fit to the sword.

And I wouldn´t mind another game of a different genre in Thedas, but not changing the feeling of gameplay within a sequel (if it finally happens, maybe Varrick is just trying to hide his failings as a narrator with flashy CG).

Haven't they already said, they will have a camera to roam the battlefield for sure, even if they can't zoom the camera out as far as people would like?

Devs, I can live without a big zoom out camera view, but my one request is don't zoom the camera to my characters everytime I hit a function key to choose them. By that I mean, if all my guys are fighting something, and my view it centered on the combat area, but my stupid archer is stuck at a door jam or lagged really far behind. I need to choose that guy and move him to the battle. I don't need the camera to zoom to him, just so that I can move the camera back to the battlefied again, to click where he should move to.

Make it tap f3 chooses character, tap f3 twice zooms the camera to your character. Hope that makes sense:)

Again liking the detail of the clothing and armor, hairstyles are good. Fem hawke looks a little too fresh faced while her sister looks...er...masculine.

Bethany has the same problem I noticed with Cassandra in the PAX videos: Her eyes are bugging out of her head. Seriously get that girl some iodide, she has Grave's disease!

I Don't like the blue splash wave coming off the attack, it might be a special move but I don't like these type of effects.

Those effects bothered me too in Origins and more so in Awakening. I will say they look a little more subdued in the DA2 footage, but still, it would be nice if you could just turn them off alltogether, along with any auras.

As well as these large floating health bars.

Yeah...I don't recall those being in Origins except maybe if you had the Survival skill I think. And even then it was only if you moused over them?

Hopefully. It will spice things up from the bland, boring, generic vanilla fantasy that was DAO's art.

The funny thing is the most realistic fantasy game I ever played was a jrpg (Final Fantasy Tactics for the ps1)

For someone as concerned about DA2 as you seem to be, I'd think you'd be aware of this. Anyways, yea sword and board still exists.

And you have plenty more of games without "bland, boring , generic fantasy". Why does it seem there´s no place for one that is more down to earth?

Oh don't worry, She won't be rape by some evil god and be Mute for ten years.

Because, hey Bioware would only used Male!Hawe Voice.

They're probably going to work it into the lore that this sword is made of a steel that makes it light as a feather, yet slices like a katana.

Because that's apparently not what Bioware themselves want, either. B)

I hear Mount & Blade is realistic. Painfully so. Try that, maybe.

One of the problems with these videos, I think, is that they don't resemble at all the DAO we played because we played DAO very differently.

Eh, I played DAO 'very differently' as well, since I would imagine I pause the game more than most people. But I still recognize this as being like DAO. Mostly from watching the character portraits, as I said.

I'm actually currently playing as a 2H Warrior and I don't find it clunky or whatever label those who want a fast paced action game, and are justifying the extreme changes want to call it. There's so few CRPG's and RPG's in general that aren't over glorified button mashers at this point with very little tactical sense involved at all, if thats what people want so bad, go play those games,

Strawman, I don't want a button masher either.

The jrpg-hate crowd conveniently forgets that western rpgs are just as unrealistic (ie. there's no way a woman that skinny would hold such a weapon so casually)... and the sword size is def. extra large: with the hilt, the sword is as tall as she is (maybe more, look at the character selection screen to see)

I'll find some examples of funny amnesia threads, bbs...

Edit. Back and link

Well, Dragonbone is supposed to be unnaturally light and strong.
