I don't have an issue with the fast paced combat as long as two hander animations are tuned down a little, that's way too fast for anyone, man or woman to handle a two handed sword, the swing may be effortless in real life, but actually the problem would be dealing with the weight after the swing not during it.
If anyone would like to get a history lesson then please feel free to read this article: http://www.thearma.o...ssays/2HGS.html
Your article states that two-handed swords weighed between 5-7 pounds and were expertly balanced. 5-7 poinds is nothing, especially if the weight is well balanced without the centre of gravity being excessively towards the tip. It means there won't be a lot of inertia to overcome in the swing recovery.
Not only that but as anybody who has practised a martial art for years knows, anything that you've practiced thousands of times over becomes committed to 'muscle memory' as the muscle groups used in that action become strengthened. Your body becomes 'tuned' to the weapon and its characteristics. I've no doubt at all that a strong, expert warrior could slash a 5-7 pound two handed sword around with very little effort.
Ok, the DA2 action in the vid is a little OTT, but it's actually a hell of a lot closer to being realistic than the goddawful two-hander animations from DAO.
EDIT: I agree about the silly weapon size, though.
I agree with you on the awful two-hander animations in Origins, too slow but I played two-hander a lot and actually enjoyed the feel of the weapons weight, now I know Hawke is a fine warrior, what I don't understand is how on earth would you do 3-4 swings in the matter of 3-4 seconds, you swing, hit your target, continue the swing till you control the momentum then swing again, the animations in Origins needed to be faster that's for sure, but not that fast, it feels as if you're carrying a feather really.
Also another observation about the model design, two handed swords aren't made to stab, so they shouldn't be thinner at the tip at all, DA designers seem to forget that the whole idea behind two-handers in DA2 is AOE, that means a consistent model, If the whole sword is made of the same material then the blade would be much heavier near the hilt than at the tip, making it even harder to balance the swing.
Yes I know, too much realism involved that needn't be there in the first place but my two cents are: animations are way too fast, and Two Handed swords aren't bulky butcher knives attached to each other.
