Fyi for those who don't know but a claymore type of sword is supposed to be around 54-57 inches give or take a few. Wiki me if you like but I'm pretty sure on that. So the fact that the sword is the size of the character is well fairly normal. I think if anything it's the width that is getting me. And if that is console awesome graphics once again. Image IPB

Yet, I seriously doubt you could twirl around a claymore like a weightless baton like Lady Hawke is doing in that video. Hell, you'd barely be able to pick that thing up let alone fling it around with one hand. There is no sense of weight or heft to any of her actions. Its like a bad anime.

(Protip: exactly like Origins except faster, more responsive and generally a lot more fun to watch.)

I demand video. :police:

There's one in the main post. :P

Then I demand other, with Nutella! :police:

Let me clarify. I demand video of this professed awesome PC gameplay. :bandit:

I was just playing Origins, and after seeing this I feel less tempted to play it to be honest.

Well, that's the twist. The "greatsword" is an attempt to merge the claymore and the real longsword (which is basically two-handed) to make it more attractive to the kiddie fanbase. *rubs his hands, laughing fiendishly while basking in self-righteous elitism*...

*Or maybe it's claymore and broadsword... I forgets...:?

this

but then again even people obsessed with "realism" tend to ignore things that are simply not to their liking

Ah, but also the width of the blade and the overall size of it? And a human-being is supposed to swing that huge thing around so fast like it's nobody's business? The way Hawke use it during the cut-scene is acceptable. But her moves in combat have two problems at least: 1, Too fast. 2, Each action is too divided that the whole combination of moves lack momentum.

Pretty amazing gameplay video, can't wait to see more! Did the video end quickly because steadycam man was tackled during the filming? ;p

Yup. Those are closing attacks. Or possibly the charge ability, which can move through multiple people doing damage to them all as you pass.

Hmmmm. If that's the normal speed for the abilities to work, I wonder how fast can i kill  enemies if a Haste Spell is cast? with a dual wield rogue? B)B)B)
Pretty interesting

A bit disappointed at the starting gear of the Magi Hawke but other than that nice find. Better than squinting at the live cam footage.

Lol I understand the physics are way off. I'm just commenting on the general size. I've seen enough movies set in the middle ages, taken enough physics classes (Image IPB), and had a good enough midieval history teacher in high school to understand that people don't swing a 20+ lb human sized sword around like it's a dagger. I'm just commenting on the "size" and size only. Image IPB

Exactly.

How Lady Hawke swung the sword around in the cutscene was fine and looked awesome. In the gameplay she was swinging it around willy nilly like it had no weight at all.  And like you mentioned, the individual moves lacked any fluidity or momentum when going from move to move.

I mean, of any recent game I've played, I'd say Arkham Asylum had fantastic animations that felt amazingly fluid and realistic yet were totally over the top in reality. Yet all of the moves flowed together astoundingly well. With DA2, from that gameplay, its like its trying to look like Hawke is chaining together of God of War style combo yet there are gaps in the animation.

Wow, watching it now and you guys weren't kidding about making the combat snappier, were you? That actually looks pretty neat. I think I'm liking what I'm seeing. Looking forward to seeing more soon.

Sidenote: Lady Hawke is awesome, especially in that armor! <3

well claymores in the middle ages only weighed 6-8 lbs and generally were 4-6 feet long... so it isn't inconciveable that SOMEone could swing a sword that fast... Not someone who is as skinny as lady hawke tho methinks

I haven't looked at the other pages, as I just wanted to post my thoughts immediately, so my apologies if I talk about things that were already addressed...

I saw the trailer, and I thought (as Brock said in another thread) that there were too many body explosions. I thought the violence could have looked more realistic than bombastic, but right now it looks kinda ridiculous.

A few things I want to point out/have concerns about:

-The class/gender select screen was set up very much like the first KOTOR. I thought it was funny.

-On the selection of classes, only rogues and warriors were highlighted, while mage selection looked like it was darked. Are we to imply that one has to UNLOCK the mage class??!! If so that REALLY sucks. Forces players already to play a certain way at the start.

-Initial clothing on all class/gender combos looked allright, though Rogue outfits looked kinda bulky from that video.

-No, you do not have to unlock the mage class. It was not playable on the show floor.
-Clothing will be different when we ship.

Ya.. I really like swords and have me own one-handed broadsword that is three feet long and only is about 2 1/2 lbs
the hilt has to weigh the same as the blade for balance issues
