well, since Liara/Garrus/Tali/Thane are quite popular among female/male players as LI,i'm just curious about....
1what makes people fall in love with an alien other than a human? Is it just because of thier well-built and interesting personalities compared to human characters?

2.Then If Bioware creates a krogan/volus/hanar character with an incredibly interesting personality ,will you ever consider romancing them?

 3.also,if a human can mate a turian/quarian/drell/asari,what're the reasons that a human cannot mate a krogan/volus/hanar?

4.what do you think about making feron an LI(mainly for fem shepard,i guess) in ME3?because i kinda find feron interesting..XD ....tho kaidan remains my favorite LI.

i like all the alien characters.Garrus&thane are nice(i play fem shepard),but my shepard will stay loyal to kaidan:)

edit:my questions focus more on "why so many players prefer aliens to human" than "why do you yourself prefer aliens to human personally"

Several factors most of all personality and appearance. Even as a dude I've explored the Garrus romance with a femshep to learn more about him beyond his penchant for calibrations. But to romance a Volus or Hanar or a Krogan, I dunno. They're slightly less "human-y" than Quarian/Turian/Drell/Asari body shapes. EDI is kinda sexy but its the disembodied voice that does it for me, I'm not wanting a humpable ship add-on over it. Otherwise I think I could find a Batarian attractive or even Salarian but I'd have to meet them first, lol. I wouldn't outright turn down a female Mordin's advances.

The internet has plenty of evidence to suggest a human could breed with a hanar type creature...

I'm not much into the aliens as the LIs either. I love them, just not, ya know, like that...
Of course, that being said, there is something very sexy about the quarian males...
But until she can land Kal'Reegar, my Shep is sticking with Kaidan!

Volus and Krogan - definitely. Hanar is a stretch IMO because they're just pink blops who seem way too samey and attached to their ways (although the family name thing could refer that we become close with one). Though krogans don't seem to have much personality differences either, they just want to fight. Plus now that you mentioned it an elcor LI could also work as they're so kind

I romance aliens for the sake of having every possible outcome though. Well, except Liara who is just one of best characters in any game

but..the shapes of cats and dogs are also alike right?:?

WHAT?!?! I'm not implying beastiality or anything if you want to romance a Volus or Hanar or Krogan or Elcor... or Collector (*shudders*, bugs bad), they're just ya know... Volus are like quarian "little people", Krogan are big... in more ways than one and I'm kinda scared of thinking of what a female looks like, and I guess I could see romancing a Hanar since they apparently like interacting with other species... like when they took in the Drell, but uhh... I don't want any Jerry Springer moments when you go in for a quick pinch and you end up flirting with their Mother.

H!Mom: This one would like to remind you of your obligations to this one's female offspring.

it is either you get me wrong or i misused the language since i m not native english speaker and my original meaning may be misinterpreted.
what i really mean is : you mentioned that quarian/asari/turian are "human-y",that is,their body shapes have some common features wirh human's,so the similarity between a human and a humanoid alien is the same as the similarity between cats and dogs on the body shape.
and the problem is,cats and dogs dont mate each other just because they have some similarities on their body shape.

You're kidding right? If I ever meet an alien in real life the first thing I'd want to do is have sex with it!

Anyway, I think for most people it's their personality that matters

I don't necessarily feel this way, but I guess you could also throw in the thrill of crossing a...uh...forbidden (or, at least, something that doesn't seem to be widely acknowledged or accepted) barrier for love.

Also: XENOPHILIA.

Well, look at the humans
Ashley...i dont like her. She never survives Virmire :P
Kaidan...boring.
Miranda...boobs and ass...and thats all. I can watch porn if I want that.
Jack...psychopat. And I cant romance her with femshep.
Jacob....the priiiiize...

I dont count DLC characters. I really would like to romance Kasumi.

Aliens are acting in game more like humans than the actual human members of crew therefore they are more interesting. I romanced Garrus in my first playthrough and it felt good :P
And on top of that... humans are all racists.

With Asari it's one of the main plot points that they reproduce with people of other species, and they pretty much look like blue humans anyway. In ME1 the choice was between Liara and two Humans whose characters I didn't find particularly interesting. No contest, really.

In ME2, you do start to get down to the worrying about mechanics more, but Garrus, Tali and Thane are far more likeable characters than their human counterparts, which is I suppose why people tend to prefer them.

I'd go for personality first. Plus, it is not like these are animals, they think and feel just like we do. I'm not automaticaly going to romance an alien over a human, but given a pick of Tali vs Miranda, I'll go with Tali. Pass on the ruthless terrorist ice queen, even if she does have.... huge trackts of land.

Great, you made me lol while drinking coffee and burn myself <_<

And maybe it's a fetish, but I find almost every turian to be extremely sexy. Gavorn, the Afterlife bartender, the Dark Star bartender, even Capt. Kuril.

I would SO get with Thane too. Free acid trip with every kiss? Hell yeah!

The reason I banged Liara was because she was a virgin.

I chose Liara because I liked her better than either Kaidan or Ashley. So, basically, yes: it was personality. And I'd be open to a krogan or hanar romance. Volus is less likely.

Generally, they have humanoid shapes, making them physically attractive.  Generally, they have personality types we can relate to.  Generally, they have issues we can emphathize with.

I won't say that being open to inter-species relationships necessarily indicates that the individual is "enlightened", but in the ME setting, inter-species relationships really are the new taboo to be overcome.
