As a straight male who's played multiple times through as both Male and Female Shepards, here's why;

1) The alien squadmates seem to get more "love" from the writers/developers in terms of personality outside of MAYBE Jack. Its not that the human characters are bad or anything, they just seem much more bland by comparison. I've still taken them with a couple of my Sheps.

2) I've played through enough times that I just want to see the different stories and such (considering you cant change a whole lot after you go down the renegade and paragon paths), so why not choose some of the aliens? Of course I've taken the human ones as well. After 6 or something playthroughs, its just about changing things up while having fun with the gameplay. Maybe when ME3 comes out and we know who'll be in it, I'll be more concerned with who my main Sheps choose, but for now I couldnt really care less, I just wanna have fun and see some different bits of story.

Personally my biggest disappointment was the lack of Wrex/Grunt L.I., I dont care what anyone says, they may be ugly Krogans but they're Bad **** M0th3r F**K*R$(BAMF)! Whats not to love about that? Even as a straight dude I'd have rather had my Fem Sheps choose them. Maybe when I'm a chick in real life I'll actually care about how they look vs how they act.

Speaking as a bi-confused man, It's all about personality. And look at the human romance choices...

Ashley - Racist, Loud, pink skin-tight armour clearly exhibits she's just another video game sex appeal character.
Kaidan - Sure he's nice but boring. Really really boring.
Miranda - As said, she's a cold hearted ice queen. Sure she gets softer later on but I wouldn't go for her. She's also a little obesessed with her job.
Jacob - See Kaidan. Teemed up with the fact he tries to womanise you by refering to you as an object (the priiiize).
Jack - I can't go near this person. Seriously. She is the most un-cute thing in the world. Every time I talk to her I have to talk to Tali afterwards so I feel less scarred.

In contrast the Alien Romances...

Liara - Okay well to be honest it isn't that good but combined with Lair of the Shadow Broker its pretty awsome. And she's still an interesting character. I'm suprised people say she doesn't contribute to the plot much in ME1, she seems very important compared to some of the others. Also, she isn't a stripper or a merc so that puts her in the league of awesome Asari.
Thane - He's polite, classy, and kinda romantic. He also has a tormented past and comes across as an amazingly written character.
Garrus - This man is pure win. He's a vigilante, a badass, and generally awesome person. His romance is cute and well written and although it sort of shows off as a little flirty thing later it really seems to develop. "I just want something to go right, just once."
Tali - She had a bit of a bumpy start in ME1 but in ME2 she became a very intriguiging character. A technological genius that's friendly but also has a short temper (see conversation with Garrus on the stairs). As for her romance, i'm not gonna lie, very, very cute, her akwardness is just d'aaaawwwww worthy (in the same way Garrus's is).

After going through the Fem-Shep scenes via Youtube....

I have to say that the most creepy a----s person you could romance has to go to ole' Mr. Six pack and his stripper uniform. What was that all about? Hiding in the shadows of a door way and and saying " and now for the prrriiiiiiizzze...." The look of pause on the Fem-Shep character is laughable ( probably not on purpose, but the whole scenario made it so). Then I waited for some goofy 70's music to play in the back ground.

Geez. Hell no. That whole " Ooohhh Mr. Taylor...." was too pornish too. I thought the whole thing diminished the role of the female Shepard.

Garrus was cute " funny" --- its obvious he's been stripping down weapons far too long than women...but it gave an insight on Garrus you don't see so... I'll grant ME that.

Thane... ehhch. I can't see his character all teary eyed and whiny. I look at him more like a tragic Samurai character. He should have had more resolve and still maintained a touching scene.

At least I know that the Fem Shep was equally cheated out of low dose Romance sequences but I have to say Male Shepard gets a plus 1 because of the Miranda episode.

How so... the females --- even the older ones ( How could you tell by age anyway)  look like atheltic women in tight suits. The problems people are having is the helmet/bio suit situation.  I wouldn't exactly say Muslim like, if it were so, her body would also have been covered so you couldn't see her shape either.  She's more aiken to a Gypsy than anything else with a head dress found by some orthodox Jewish clans.

If we're going to start comparing fictional characters and aliens with real-world people, let's keep it civil and respectful, please. Some questionable posts have been removed. thank you.

Well personally i think if they are humanoid beings, sooner or later people will be attracted to the. Krogan have exoskeletons so.... have fun :/

I find it awesome to mate with Liara sense she can manipulate the senses as well as being highly flexible :P

Quarian are so mysterious and I have a thing for nervous, socially awkward tech geeks.

Miranda was overconfident though her booty succeeded in the staring contest.

Jack.....is jack. I like her sometimes when she opens up...but the haircut will always push me away.

Point taken.

Huh, so romancing a Quarian would be like dating someone on the internet with a picture of their body in tight atheltic suit minus the face, good to know.

Well, I suppose living in imagination is better then living in reality.

Well what do you want --- the only way we were to know what she looked like was.... not shown for the exception of an empty face sheild.  Thats Bio-Ware's fault!

No... I suppose the equivlant...and although his has negative connocations to it...but for the purpse of hyptheticals.... it would be like dating someone of which you can see his or her's atheltic body with all the nice trimmings to cause the eye to wander.... with a paper bag over that person's face.

I mean thats what we're really dealing with.

Buts a new spin on  " Adventure" eh!

Sometimes I wonder why I make a thoughtout post about why Ashley isn't racist in the least bit but than some uninformed person disregards it and screams that Ashley is racist.

Some people just can't be reasoned with.

I'm going to guess thats Paragon Shepard and if it were so... he wouldn't care and that you said you would love to help Jack  Cope.

Not a problem... thats just one wild woman thats for sure... not my cup of tea but then I have no let to stand on as I've dated the retro-type at one time.

Oh yeah... and who ever made their Shepard  " get in sync"  with  Mornith was a complete moron and you diserve to fry for such a ludicrious stunt.

Well I didn't say she was Racist --- I said she was too damned Pro-Alliance for her own good with a very narrow tract mind set...so much so --- she calls you an outright traitor.

I just don't buy the explanations about emotionalism and such... it still didn't fit right nor was it fair. I will say this, the writing for her senario was stacked against her for what ever reason... I just don't think I would have made Ashely/Kaiden act that way.

Because no one else did. It would have been different if  Garrus and Tali also called him a SOB/Traiter/Cerebrus Xenomorph... but that didn't happen and therefore the ratio of who did what demands a better justice recieved from those two.

And AGAIN --- look how it ends up?  Aliens supported Shepard more while the Human element couldn't wait to dump a load on his door step and then ring the door bell.

I hope something can be done to fix this very terrible error in writing judgement.

She really steps of the food chain pyrmid when you para romance. Gameplay wise she's still ARGH FUX U BISH!
but the romance scene made me feel sorry for her...

And yes Morinth was a mistake that you guys failed to see. Shepards bad ass, but nerualogical death is neuralogical death...

She even says that she doesn't hate aliens. Ashley just believes that Aliens will always put themselves first. In ME they have done that. Such as most Quarians wanting war with the Geth and enslaving them again and ignoring everything else in the Universe(Collectors, Reapers, Slavers, or problems other races have).

Ashley would never join Cerberus because she doesn't hate Aliens, she distrusts them(With God reason. First Contact wasen't that long ago), and doesn't believe in killing aliens just so Humanity can reign supreme in the Universe.
