I always liked Tali's character, because she is seriously good at what she does on the one hand, but not egotistical about it on the other. She is completely loyal to Shepard, and Liz does a fantastic job with the vocals.
So far Tali is the least alien of the aliens, at least in terms of appearance. As long as you don't count her digits, it's really easy to just focus on the eyes behind the mask and fill in "normal" features around them. It might be more difficult, ironically, without the "damn helmet."
Liara was my choice by default in the first game because Ashley was too cranky to agree to a three way. I mean, if a spaceship in a video game right before you save the galaxy isn't the right time and place for kinky wild xenophilia, what is? Liara was down with it, so she was my girl.

My main reason would be, that it's a Bioware game and I want to see where various story aspects go.

OK first let's not call them "aliens." I mean...Like they're alien to what? Earth? Humans are the new kids on the block, they are the "aliens". Welcome to galactic civilization, the party already started without you.
No. 2 Blue chicks rock.
No. 3 Turians got no lips and...Can you imagine a Turian naked? Go ahead, take a moment, I'll wait...Can't imagine a Turian get together for my Fem-Shep.
No. 4 Krogan? You'd have more success with a Rhino.
No. 5 Volus? Three feet tall, nasally voiced broken up with what sounds like one of those iron-lung machines, strange superiority complex like small dogs who yap too much.
No. 6 Hanar? Better luck with a block of Jell-O. At least Jell-O doesn't talk about themselves in the third person.
At any rate I think the Asari are the only other species even remotely compatible with Humans.

Well, the Asari are an advanced, beautuful race of aliens who are inteligent scientists, great financial administrators, fierce commandos, powerful biotics and have that "age of aquarius" mentality that makes them the best choice for any gender Shepard, my Fem-shep (Natalya) is with Liara in ME, romanced her again in ME2 and will stay with her in ME3.
Quarians are mysterious when it comes to their appearance and that always works when one thinks of a sci fi romance, My male shepard (Konstantin) is with Tali and he will stay with her in ME3.
But does a species appearance realy matter?
Why must Shepard flirt with similar looking humanoid species? It is all about the heart here not the eyes.

Most people apparently tend to think of the LI aliens as dressed-up humans, or they only connect on a personality-level.
Having said that, it is really difficult to find a human LI with similar depht of character, so I guess that´s why most prefer Liara or Tali. Miss Perfect´s character is mostly superficial. Ash was a very good designed character, but did not get a chance in the plot, which is a pity.
For female Shepard, the dilemma is even worse. Kaidan and Jacob, besides that either a skeletor or a frog, or the asari with a female physiology.´
No wonder most players "are into aliens".

It was only a matter of time before someone would want a Yahg romance.
A Yahg is a better option than a Vorcha though anyday.
Who would I like to romance? Captain Bailey, oh yeah.

I'd imagine going intimate with a volus would be difficult, what with their pressurised suits and all.

You can't assume that every alien species can... Errr... Show their love the same way as humans. Maybe Krogans fertilize the eggs outside of the body. >_>

Video games were designed so you can be someone you can't be in Real life. I bang chicks 24/7 in real life so I want to know what it's like banging a hot virgin asari. mmmm

@FrancisKitt - AHHHH! My eyes! They burn!
Maybe it's just me, but I find Drell and Turians to be incredibly sexy. It's really a tie between Garrus and Thane for me. Garrus has the whole cute awkward thing going on, while Thane has his sensitive side. I don't really know why people think Kaidan is boring. I enjoyed talking with him, because it sort of felt like a game. It was obvious he liked my FemShep, but was unsure of whether or not expressing his feelings were appropriate. It's a bit of an awkward situation, if you think about it. He's a good guy, who's a little sweet yet reserved. I have yet to romance Jacob, so I can't comment.

As Aislinn Trista said : There is something really sexi about turians. I dont know what. Suportive waist maybe?
But when I look at it, alien squad members are really well written, humans characters pales in comparision to them. For example Garrus story is totaly amazing, he is really deep character, we love him no mather what with all with all his pros and cons. And as opposite we have Jacob - meh just traditional Alliance guy. There must reason why Garrus is soo popular and not only in female fandoms. And his voice, I just love listen to his voice. Very addictive.
Actually I think aliens in Mass effect have much better backround stories than humans. It makes you feel for them (Oh poor Garrus, poor Thane) and usually are more cooler. I believe right word may be mysterious. Like Tali.
But from all ME character I only want to romance one particular human crew member, Unfortunately Bioware denies me Joker romance, so I am stuck wit staring at Kaidan picture. But I still have hope for ME3. If Joker wasnt there, I would also go for Garrus.
