We have at least one current problem thread in which the system is so old and so slow, that a plain sound card won't help. The majority of add-on PCI sound cards are just more elaborate versions of the onboard chips. They still must offload decoding chores to the CPU. If anyone else is in a similar situation, I've checked Newegg, and there are several audio processors in the $180 to $250 range that all appear to include decoding.
Occasionally, you will find an in-between card for sale at about $100 that has its own decoding, but what it amounts to is most sound cards do not decode, and it's going to be about $200 in order to be certain you have the function included.

hey guys i had a problem that started on my second play through where every minute or two the game would lag for like ten or fifteen seconds and i scoured all of these forums looking for a fix and you guys are saying the same thing they are. (not that its bad advise or that its not the cause of this particular problem).... anyway after a while of looking through the settings configuration i decided to torn off all of the uploading options (upload gameplay feedback, character profile and screen shots) and hey presto all of my lagging problems disappeared.
again im not saying any of the other advise was bad and i apologies if im just frustrating you with useless novice advise but i can only say i had a similar problem and this worked for me

Always best to run big apps like DA without anything else on. Uploading my character profile and progress is very low priority. Once I installed the DLC's I turned off all that "extra" stuff, and I normally disconnect the internet completely from my system when I play DA.
If people need to get in touch with me and it's important, they can call me on my cell. Hee hee!

Hi! i have space left 70gb off 120gb on c:, so can i install my games on d: drive which has 140gb off 160gb and will they work properly? c: is my main drive and all windos/programs related things are in there. I really don't have enough space for 20gb games on my c:..
Ps. Might be stupid question but have to ask coz i don't know.

I could tell you that you need to upgrade to a 1TB HD, but I realize that not everyone can afford to modify their system.
If you play on a laptop, I have no idea really. I have never bought a laptop in my life and probably never will. lol
