Wow, you really were serious about discussing Liara. First eight posts all have avatars of Liara. Same two people talking to each other but still.
As for Feron operating the base while Liara was on the Normandy, I wouldn't allow it. Liara is too valuable a resource to risk her getting killed on a mission. I wouldn't have her on the Normandy for more than a visit and I wouldn't leave the base while she was there.
Feron was a trafficker as some have said, Liara had been an information broker. It would be like putting a Private in charge of the Afghan theater.
No, Liara is too valuable, even more so than Shepard. He may hold the allies together but Garrus could take his place easily. There is no one Shepard knows that could take Liara's place.

In the end I have to agree, Liara should stay at the base. Or like she said, 'give me 10 minutes and i could start a war'. We need her to start that war when Harbinger comes. And if i survive after ME3 i'll propably still fake my death and join her at the base.

Like others said, I'm sure that Liara will have a key rhole in ME3, but will be very hard to have her playable back. She is in fact the only faithful ally that Shep will have at his side for sure, considering that Wrex, Legion and Tali may die during the previous games, inimicating to him their people, and that both Council\\Alliance and Cerberus thinks about him as a renegade of their cause. I see for Liara a lot of potential as nemesis of the Illusive Man, assuming that he'll show the darkest side of Cerberus trying to fight the Reapers with all possible resources. Liara's on of the characters who most changes during the history and at this point sacrifing all the nice work done just to have her aboard of the Normandy again would be a shame, in my opinion.

I agree with the OP massively.
The best thing about gaining resources and info from Liara means you can actually trust it unlike the Alliance who are just generally dicks, the Council who are also dicks, and Cerberus who are lying dicks.

It will be interesting to keep on speculating about this as we do find out more info about ME3 (or the next DLC). LotSB was the first story-bridging stuff, so I'm thinking it will tie in with some of the next DLC, even if it's a very weak connection, or one that's not so obvious.
