It's more or less turn based, very much like Dragon Age. You select your skill (or skills) and they play out. Clicking on enemies targets them.

The manual states 'real-time turn based'. You can pause and order actions whenever you like during combat though.

There is an option to set the game to pause at the end of each round. But otherwise you move about, set targets in real time. But every action does take a turn up.

As mentioned above, the style is best described as real-time turn-based. While there are 'turns', the combat is constantly happening so you don't really notice the turns happening. It's not like Final Fantasy, where one side attacks the others while they just stand there - both combatants are actively engaged, blocking saber attacks and dodging blaster bolts. If you don't choose a combat feat to use, the fighters will constantly use a standard attack, but the animations change up so it doesn't look static at all. If you're wary of turn-based combat I'd still definitely pick the game up, you won't be disappointed. If you like turn-based combat, you'll enjoy it as well because you can pause and queue up attacks.
