Not sure what happened and when but everytime i try to open the toolset, it shows as an open process in the task manager but the toolset is not open. any idea why this is happening?
guess i should try to reinstal it and see if that fixes the problem

Could be a corrupted database. You'll need to completely remove it before reinstalling the toolset.

I know this thread is a little old, but I'm having the exact same problem, and I've yet to find anyone else posting with a similar problem.

I can see the process running in Task Manager, but it quits after several seconds. In fact I've only been able to successfully launch the TS once (opened the single player module, checked in/out resources, modified a few uti/erf files), and that was after a two day long marathon of installing/uninstalling the toolset and following the various "fixes" (db restore, manual db restore/create, mssql2008) mentioned in the wiki. The d@mn thing worked fine on my old crappy P4 machine...

@trumpdog - When you say "CA security software" I assume you're referring to an antivirus program, not to MS Certificate Authority, correct?

-XP Pro (SP3!) / PhenomIIx6 / 4Gb ram / toolset v1.0.1008.0 / mssql2008r2exp

I'm happy to report that I have solved my issue - and hopefully this will help someone else as well. The issue for me was processor affinity. The only real difference between my old system and my new one is processor cores. The old one had 1(2 if you count HT), whereas the new one has 6. I manually set affinity (in task manager) to core 0 & 1, and it works perfectly (default install) every time. I'm going to try using "THG Task Assignment Manager" from Tom's hardware (I found it here: http://www.mediafire...6b9f114oavnvvyy) to automatically set affinity for the TS every time I run it.

Update... That utility does *not* work, but setting affinity manually still does.
