I decided to start this thread as I haven't seen another like it, or at least there hasn't been one within the last 5-6 months in this section. I ask that you post only redesigns of NPC's seen in the main campaign stories for Origins, Awakening or any of the Bioware DLC's. I also ask that you only post your own work and please don't be rude torwards people about their designs, constructive criticism only please.

@mslc123~I love your Riordan... he looks very cool, but still looks like his character. I like your Loghain too, but the face texture is a bit strange, love the scar, and his brows, the composition etc, just the skin I think is different, not necessarily bad. Hope that is helpful? Am bad w/words... but he is fierce.
My Loghain I am not necessarily finished with, so am hoping ppl give feedback on.

@mslc123: Your Loghain looks like the kind of bad guy I'd want to fight, someone who is has seen and lived through the horrors of war.
@Saerwen: Your Loghain looks more like a hero than a baddie, really nice look to him.

@ Saerwen: Thanks for the compliment, I like to stay somewhat close to the original, but look to enhance them based on what I "feel" from them as characters. As for loghains texture, I use Dracomies texture pack, and the scar is from DJ bandits emporium pack I believe, I had the scar as the base layer and then blended in the "loghain" texture in certain areas without detracting from the scar too much.
As for your work it all looks pretty good, though I would love to see some different angles of them, and also where did you get that hair for leliana? I've been trying to find a good style for mine and have tried many, they just never look right to me.
@ KwanGong: For loghain I felt the original just didn't fit my vision of a hardened warrior who fought endlessly for his country against brutal tyrants. So I started from scratch so to speak, I didn't use any of the preset sliders for him, then I wanted to add the scar as I thought noone goes through as many battles as he did completely unscathed.

Thanks for the compliments on Loghain. I was inspired by Gaider's book The Calling when I was designing him, and I wanted him to look more like a hero. Not that he hasn't done some terrible things... but he was a great man at one time.
I will also work on some different angles, thanks for the feedback. Here is a shot of my Morrigan, she is actually a change up of one of my other creations, but I think she looks like a Morrigan to me.

Pullback shot of Loghain

Leliana w/freckles I actually scrapped this design, lightened up the freckles and darkened up her makeup again, she looks way to young!

Leliana's hair is from TMP's hair mod here on the social site, I believe it is the CGI Leliana hair.

@ Saerwen: I actually tried that hair model for my loghain previously, but decided to change it. I personally like his long hair but I just hated the braids he had that hung down the side of his face. When I did mine too I didn't really want to detract from his image as a hero, but I wanted to present the physical signs of the constant stress and worry he must have over his country and his land.
I actually haven't read any of the Dragon Age novels yet, I'll have to look into them though as I've been entralled by the game since I got it awhile ago. Also I have the same problem with my leliana's, as I don't know just how old she's supposed to be, so I go back and forth in my designs on her.

Here's a few of mine. All made for my own game and from my own personal preferences, not all that lore friendly. If you don't like them, well, at least you won't have to have them in your game.
I based my Wynne from her concept art, if you've not seen that I recommend you do, she looks pretty awesome there.
Zevran.

Wynne.

Morrigan.

I have a more purple, concept art'ish version of Morrigan as well, but I usually use this version.

@ Neveri: Really nice work, I especially like your Zevran. Looks much better than the original in my opinion. I actually haven't seen the Wynn concept art, I'll have to check it out soon.

@Neveri: Your Zevran is what I'd imagine Zevran should look like, sleek and smooth and slightly oily looking. Really like your Morrigan too, as in really like.
@mslc123: I totally agree with you about the scar bit. Makes more sense that someone who overcame great odds to win the war for Ferelden should have some battle scars to show for it.

Trying to figure out who to "fix" next... So many poorly done generic NPC's running around, so little time.
Open for suggestions if you guys want to throw them out there!

There's a few NPCs I've redesigned just to make them look more like I would imagine them to look, for my game specifically. I redesigned Bryce and Eleanor to give a bit of a family resemblance to my latest Cousland.

Ser Jory is a character whose looks always irritated me. When I saw him on my first run-through he looked like an older warrior, and hardly the 'young, tough knight losing confidence in battle' that he is meant to be, and described as in the toolset. So I completely ignored his vanilla appearance and redesigned him in a way that I would imagine him to be had I never seen him.

For Zev, I always picture him as having these really smooth, cat-like, roguish movements, and I grew tired of his vanilla hairstyle since I imagine him with longer hair, so (though you can't see in the screenies) I gave him that long plait and a smoother, more 'foreign' appearance in my eyes.

I didn't want to do anything drastic for Anora, but I softened her up a bit to give her the 'feminine wiles' and 'majesty and grace' she is described as having in the toolset.

Iona

Probably not the best of scenes to get the screenshots, but with the others either the lighting was horrible or the camera jumped around too much to get a decent shot of her face.

@ Poisonthecity: I've thought about doing that with the cousland family as well, though there are all those portraits around the keep of the default models and I'm not really sure if it's possible to replace them or how difficult it would be. So I'm not quite sure I want too yet. Also I much prefer your version of Ser Jory to the original, very nice.
I also think I'll keep trying for some better screenshots of Iona, but it's difficult with the scenes provided.

@PoisonTheCity~Love your Zevran, I always hated the vanilla Zev, I mean how can he get claim to be such a lothario, but look so terrible? I also liked that you did something completely different w/Jory... I would have trouble calling that guy a coward now, how does it feel though with that morphs face and the old Jory's voice? Great redesign.. now I am inspired to try something like that.
@mslc123~ Iona,I like her, I hate how this game has made the elves so wretched looking. She is cute.
@Neveri~ I am always a fan of your work.
Here is a little better shot of my Morrigan, I don't think the other pics I posted showed her off quite well enough.

@ Saerwen: I totally agree about the elves in this game, I don't really know what Bioware was thinking when they designed most of the NPC's.
Right now I'm going threw and altering the human noble origin, next I think I'll move onto the City Elf origin and Dalish origin, as the elves really need alot of TLC in terms of looks! lol.
As for your Morrigan, I like her, she looks more like the trailer version than the vanilla one. Also do you use Pangel eyes as well? I love that mod, much better than the original eyes.

@PoisonTheCity, excellent work on your npc's there, really love your Zevran and Ser Jory!
@mslc123, your Iona is really pretty, much, much better than the original.
@Saerwen, awh, thank you.
Your Morrigan is awesome, I really dig the eyes!
I've pretty much just re-done my companions so far, so here's the rest of them, I've already posted most of them in another thread, but at least here they're very much on-topic.
I tend to swap between Alistair with a ponytail and the original hair, depends what character I'm playing myself. Same goes for Morrigan, I normally use the other version, but at times I feel more like purple. Yes, I match her to whatever version of her robe I'm using.
Morrigan version 2.

Alistair.

Sten.

Oghren.

@mslc123
Thanks! I'm far from a toolset veteran myself, so I'm not sure if you could replace their portraits. I guess it depends on how drastically you wanted to redesign them; if it was only a few tweaks here and there, I don't think they'd need replacing. The portraits could be a couple years old, and artists won't always get all the details exactly right. That's how I RPed it for my Cousland redesigns, but I suppose if you wanted to make more drastic changes, like skin colour, it might be a little less believable
Your Iona is teh cutez, is that eye texture from Bidelle? I often use those for elves, too.
@Saerwen
Thanks
I'm all for beautified, Tolkienesque elves, and Zev was the first one I pounced on when I got the toolset. For Jory, I tried to keep that subtle goofiness/uncertainty his original design had, so it wasn't that hard to adapt to the VO. Your Morrigan does indeed look like the trailer version! I like that she still has the Morrigan essentials (yellow eyes, purple make-up and that up-do), but a far more realistic face shape. The large lips and small eyes always bothered me in the original.
@Neveri
Thanks! I was a little wary of posting them at first; I've never shared my redesigns and always made them with my own preferences in mind, but it's great to get feedback and ideas from others. Your Oghren is awesomesauce, far better looking than any of the few times I've tried to make an appealing dwarf
His vanilla design looked too cartoony for me.

@ PoisonTheCity: The eye texture I use is Pangel Tragic Eyes / Bright Eyes, I absolutely love the textures they made. As for my skin textures it's mostly from Dracomies Texture Pack VI I believe it is, and I use a few others including some scar packages. I'll have to look through my files and list them. I'll have to look into Bidelle, though I'm nervous about adding too many other mods since I don't have a way to modify XML files or well have the knowledge too. I tried a mod that was supposed to be able to combine all the XML files into one, but it didn't work out too well for me.
@ Neveri: Great work! Like them all, especially sten and oghren! I need to practice working with the dwarves, I find they're the hardest for me to work with.
As for everyone liking my Iona, thanks alot! Appreciate all the compliments guys! Working on a few other people from the human origins, as we speak I'm working on Lady Landra and perhaps once I get a few others done from the same scene I'll post some more screen shots!
Keep the screen shots and creativity rolling guys! Really happy to see you all participating here!

^ Hmm, I thought I had the PAngel eyes... apparently not, heh
The eye texture you use for your Iona looks quite similar to one in the Bidelle set (the one I've used in the below pic), which has become a staple for me when designing elves. I know what you mean about those pesky XMLs - I must have spent ages trying to get them to work with the Bidelle mod and RENs hair, but it was well worth the effort.
The mod you mentioned that's meant to combine the XMLs, do you mean the one here? http://dragonagenexu...ile.php?id=971 That's the one I use, also had some trouble with it in the beginning where I got this long error message, but after organizing my Override folder a bit, it works perfectly.
Here's my Keeper Marethari from the Dalish origin.

I too use the Pangel Eyes, my Morrigan, Loghain, and Leliana morphs all have them. Love those eye textures, and I only have the toolset version in my override folder. Bidelles are good, but the pupil is a bit on the small side for my tastes.
