I just got done downloading Mass Effect 2 with Steam, downloaded all of the Cerberus Network stuff, and a few DLCs. If I try to install any of the DLC it insists that Mass Effect 2 is not installed.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Try the right click and adm privilages to install.

Make sure you run ME2 at least one time before trying to install DLC. Just get to the main menu and then quit.

Tried both of the above, neither one of them worked

Even Xfire acknowledges that the game is installed, so it IS in my registry. The only programs that refuses to acknowledge its existence are the DLC and Cerberus Network installers!

To be frank this is why I prefer a retail disk over a digital >.> always seems to have issues an there always a pain to fix most of the time. Back to the topic though
, what directory was your ME2 installed to ? Because sometimes if its not installed into a default folder setup installing DLCs and patches will have issues. Usually they don't have issues finding the exe but this is steam were talking about so every things a little different. Also to note disable Xfire when in game it frees up some FPS in ME 1 & ME 2
its especially noticeable in the CIC.

I did not interfere with the setup directory. ME2 was installed in the default location (wherever steam puts it on Windows 7)
I simply used xfire to check if me2 was installed on my computer. Again, the only programs that think its not installed are the DLC programs.

I've looked through things, and I found out what might be the problem.
under the exe file's properties there is a field that says "run this program in compatability mode for" and it lists Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP service pack 3 etc etc.
It does NOT list Wondows 7.
So its looking for a XP or Vista registry, and is not finding it. For instance, XP and Vista install in the Program Files directory, 7 installs in a folder called Program Files (x86)
In case there is still a question about the OS, it is Windows 7 64-bit.

I think I remember that know. I think I just told it to run in XP mode and it worked.
