Don't get me wrong, the ability to play femshep is an awesome extra, but still an extra. I'm happy we have the option to play a fully voiced female commander next to our male commander. But you have to realize that not everything always works out well for both sides. Some scènes work really well for maleshep and less for femshep, or the other way around.

But in the end, i still think these are minor issues.

guys you can easily fanwank this....

Male Shep makes Liara cry more... and she smiles more knowing that she's gonna make him cry now.

Trust me the male shep isn't getting the better deal here ;)

I think something may be wrong with your pictures (won't open in browser) - my best guess would be that someone messed with Content-Disposition

That's the problem, right there! As long as Femshep is still considered a mere 'extra,' like some spare bonus material, her stuff will always trail behind. It's that very mindset which needs to change.

To be honest, I missed this bug. I have seen the sequence three times and I didn't notice it once (missing details is kind of a big deal to me), but now that I have gone back and watched it, I can't not help but see it.

I agree that the mindset needs to go ASAP, but I will sit here in slack-jawed amazement if ANYONE could say to me with a straight face: "Female Shepard is just an extra."

Anyone voiced by Jennifer Hale is not an extra.

Hey, I wasn't the one who called Femshep an 'extra.' :) I was just saying that mindset needed to go.

Hey Folks,

You guys can believe me or not, but at the end of the day, please understand that are we working very hard to give you folks the best possible experience on both FemShep and ManShep. I promise you though, that what you're seeing as differences are glitches and not intentional at all. This was not oversight or rushed, it was simply a bug that was missed.

We take this stuff very seriously, which is why after a 17 hour workday (working to bring you folks more quality stuff) I'm now at home catching up on this thread. We're reading this and many other forum posts and we will be putting a renewed effort to ensure these sorts of bugs do not occur on any potential future DLC and Mass Effect titles. Our goal has and will continue to be to ensure that female and male Shepard have a truly equitable experience and that no one group of people feel left out.

Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out for quality and thanks to those who provided respectful and honest feedback. I know at the end of the day, all everyone here is looking for is the best possible game. Understand that we too are doing whatever we can to deliver on that expectation!

-Jess

Thank you. It's great that someone from BioWare actually answers to complaints, and even in such a detailed and nice manner. Since LotSB, I appreciated BioWare a lot more again, and now again a bit more.

Thank you Jess for taking time to read this thread and letting us know that our concerns are noticed. And let me say that getting time and even having energy to see forums after 17 hour workday is one heck of a feat.

I suppose I see things a bit different in that I don't look at FemShep as an "extra" rather another view of the main plot and the key (for me) to why ME is fun to play.

I've been looking through this thread and didn't see a response form the Dev's. What page is that portion on?

For me, FemShep IS Shepard. The male Shepard is the extra. My first few times playing Mass Effect was as a male Shepard. It was almost a year after getting the game that I tried a female Shepard. Right now, there's no doubt in my mind which one is the "real" Shepard to me, and it comes down to Jennifer Hale's voice acting.

Male Shepard, to me, sounds like a guy saying "It's the fourth quarter and we're down by a touchdown, but by golly we're the Wildcats, and we can make something happen! Lets go out there and win the state high school championship! Gooooooo team!" Female Shepard's voice, to me, somehow manages to convey indomitable will, fierce pride, a wry sense of humor, the faculty for both boundless compassion and terrifying retribution, the burden of carrying a weight on her shoulders heavier than anyone before her has ever carried, and the courage to never submit or yield.

Male Shepard is the kind of guy I'd love to have a beer with. Female Shepard is the kind of person I'd turn to save all of creation from Lovecraftian horrors from beyond the stars, and FemShep deserves better than what she's gotten.

Alright guys, to be sure, this is NOT a femshep fan thread where we can all talk about how we think femshep is better or even to talk about the VA.

This is about the bugs with the character models. If it continues to be posts about VA, and femshep preference, it will have to be locked, despite my overwhelming preference for femshep (femshep is canon as far as I'm concerned :P )

Thanks for the link Javier!

When it comes to the end of the day, I think what most fans of FemShep are most concerned about is that we are obviously very passionate about our love for this character and just won’t want to feel that we may have missed out on something.  BioWare has always gone above and beyond in supporting us and as such, has created a high expectation from the fans.

To me, this is one of the best sci-fi genres ever created so if we have the chance to influence portions of its future creation, it’s difficult not to get too excited about that ideal.

Bravo to Jesse. Game developers work insanely hard for very long hours and take such tremendous abuse. I certainly couldn't do your job. Thanks very much for providing us such awesome entertainment.

That was my complaint about the gameplay in LotSB... you have to be paying so much attention to the interupts coming up for about .7 seconds that you miss some things in the cut scenes...

Some people still don't seem to realize that femshep = maleshep + female model + female voice. This naturally results in some clipping here and there. And the missing sobbing voice? Just a glitch obviously.

Femshep is just an extra, always was. You people should be happy that Bioware gives you the option to play female, a lot of (sci-fi) games don't even give you that option. Now quit moaning about these MINOR issues and just move on, shall we?

Even if she was added as "just an extra" at some point, that certainly isn't the case now. According to the polls I've seen, about 50% (±10%) players prefer femShep over dudeShep. It's a bit out of touch to stay in denial and maintain that femShep is just a bonus when she's what's selling the whole story to half of the playerbase.

Well I'm not going to say anyone's complaints are silly or dumb but let me say this. Its probably a glitch or possibly just different styles for the opposite sex. No reason to let 2 minutes ruin a whole experience, let me ask you gals/guys did you feel upset when you first finished LOTSB or felt happy/sad, just because there wasn't audio of crying playing or she didn't smile every second did it really bother you while playing it the first time?

I'd like to extend my thanks and appreciation to Jesse Houston for taking the time to respond to this thread, address a few problems, and clarify the situation regarding the altered animations and audio in LotSB dependant on Shepard's gender. It is very much appreciated, as I know that the development staff are extremely busy people. Thanks!
