I know I'm late to the party, and I apologize for it.

I admit I never knew of the little inconsistencies mentioned in the OP, but I'm also very happy that my thread about the sitting animation has made it in here (thanks, Pacifien!). I'm sure it's all about the animators being a little too lazy for one, and having the tendency to be focused on MaleShep for another. But I'm sure they'll get it right in ME3. Remember, ME1 did have gender-specific animations (e.g. walking animation), and as of LOTSB, we've seen some progress in ME2. Who knows, in ME3 they may break it all loose and surprise us. B)

I'm glad this thread exists, though. We have every right to address our concerns as paying customers; if anything, it means we love BioWare and want them to be even more successful.

It's not really the mods that you want to respond, as some of us are simply volunteer moderators and don't work for Bioware. Christina Norman, Dusty Everman, Eric Fagnan, Don Moar, and Jesse Houston all have actually worked on the game, but in different areas of that game. (Probably others that are listed as mods as well, but the ones I have listed I've actually sent PMs to in the past and had a response.) Jesse Houston and Christina Norman are two developers I've seen active on Twitter.

I feel like I'm helping someone with stalking techniques. But I wouldn't mind knowing the mind of a developer on a lot of these issues.

I appreciate that.  Not that I don't believe the people who say that a non-romanced Liara with a MaleShep gets the sobbing scene but it's always good to have visuals.  I've never watched the non-romanced playthroughs before.  They are hard to watch because I can't imagine not romancing Liara.  I wish people would put themselves in our shoes for once and think what it would be like if for say, your romance with Tali got less of an emotional scene than a scene with a non-romanced Tali.

These differences seem quite strange indeed. I mean, why would you deliberately make the dialogue different? It would be most effective and logical to use the same dialogue for male and female Shepard whenever it's possible. And in fact, that's what BioWare have usually done. So, since the lines in question do not depend on Liara referring to Shepard as "he" or "she," why bother to write, script and record these lines differently in the first place?

Maybe the writers did have a reason why Liara would act differently depending on whether Shepard is male or female, and I could certainly imagine some possible explanations for it. But I would be interested in their reasoning. If it was a simple mistake, is a small patch too much asked for?

As far as the clipping issues are concerned, they are more understandable. Because in this case they have almost certainly done what I said is most effective, and just used the same animations for male and female Shepard. But I have to say, the clipping issues annoy me more than the slight differences in dialogue do. The Mass Effect series has always been so great, among other things, because it's much like a playable movie. Clipping issues as serious as these in LotSB, do distract from that feeling of playing a movie.

But all that said, LotSB is still a fantastic experience, very well written and and a beautiful continuation of the Liara romance.

oh my goodness, the boards would be filled with outrage if something was wrong with Tali-related they'd fill the DA board with their complaints but if something's wrong with the main character we're complaining. the differences ar terrible since I thought she didn't sob because I played LoTSB with a single shep. but now that I know it's for femsheps who did romance her that sucks. It's like Liara is an actress acting like she's in love wuth femshep but when chud yells cut she goes biotic charging into male sheps arms. Equality isn't too much to ask for!

this was the first time I played on casual. LoL. I've always played on insanity. sbs base mission took like 5 minutes to run through. no cover just running and guning. Served my purpouse though. I'm in the process of uploading now. cut some of the quality in order to save time though.

well there we are. didn't take as long as expected. Might take youtube a bit to render the higher quality out though.

Seriously, I'm at the point where I wish they'd just cut the fem Liara romance if they aren't going to put as much effort into it.  Liara can just be a MaleShep LI and I don't have to care about it anymore.

So we now have proof that regardless if you romanced her or not, a MaleShep gets the Liara sobbing scene.  Liara does not sob with her girlfriend, however.

So it's not a bug - unromanced male gets sobs and tears - odd.

I feel ya. Although part of what kept me playing for so long was knowing that eventually my FemShep and Liara would be together again  *sigh*

Well that's interesting.

Devs know we want to see differences between FShep and MShep, but wouldn't it make more sense for Liara to express more emotion with another female, not frigging Sheploo?

I'd like to think that it was just some error where they meant to put the sob in the FemShep Liara romance but accidently added it to the MaleShep non-romance, but I'm pretty convinced that that was not the case.

Really, it doesn't make sense. It should not have been a male/female issue but rather a romance/no romance issue. This is actually quite disheartening :(

Hmmm . . . very interesting. I'm very curious why this discrepancy exists at all. Wouldn't it have just been easier to play the same scene for everyone? They didn't really solve any of the clipping problems in the female version so I'm really lost as to what the point was.

I know you are hurt, but it doesn't need to come to that.  Let's just keep this thread active so that we can get some feedback from someone at the top.

This makes me more angry now, I always wondered why she sobs with Joshua but not Fiona. I'm with jen now <_<

If your not going to put in the effort in the romance, just cut it and stop hurting the fans.

Men want a emotional crying woman they can rescue where as women might want someone more independant and stronger? I have no idea, might just be the preconceptions of the writers, it's definatly not a bug though.

Yes, go ahead.  I may be coming off like this doesn't hurt but it does to see my friends who love Liara so much to be hurt.  The only thing I can do is keep pressing this issue.  I need the support of others though.  I can't do it alone or have a thread full of anger either.

That's...odd.  That's also kind of looking at it from a meta-perspective....in game, Shepard's gender shouldn't matter to Liara.

Also, there are tons of guys that play FemShep.
