Please, i try to explain this as best i can. Frogive my english, its not my native language.

So, what i want say by this is, that in last three games of Bioware - that is Mass Effect 1&2 and Dragon Age, sex , or the sex scenes to me felt, as if they would be just 'rewards' or 'achievements' for completing romances(that is licking the boots of the said character). But that's actually not like it should be, at least i don`t think it should be in a dark medieval fantasy world.

I know there is a chantry to keep things down, but still...in Earth's medieval era we got wars, black plague, inquisition witchhunts, murders, serial killers... and what ever else and humans still bread into milliards.

The thing with this i want to say, is for Bioware to make sex, actuall tool for progressing in game. Now this sounds horrible at first, but if you played Fallout 2, you know what i am talking about. With it there , you could enter places otherwise very difficult to access , or make money(there was even one poor guy, who always wasted his weekly earnings from work on you if you got charism 7+), open new dialogue options, story paths and quests, or gain some items, etc... It was more normal, and not like 'shiny epic' at finishing the romance questline.

For instance Witcher had this quite well made, but i am not saying that everyone had to be such womanizer as Geralt, but there simply should be option for that, and for sex as a tool for advancing in the game progress and opening new posibilities. I don`t know if Bioware is going to make some 'character physical appearence' stat, like already mention charisma, but if not - maybe simply the personality or some background selection could work for determing the 'difficulty checks'.

I also guess there might be too late for this to implement, and game development is too far for such change, but maybe you could at least consider it for future products then.

I don't know. Bioware games have always tended to have the seedier parts of physical human interaction portrayed relatively cleanly or as innuendo if anything. DA:O did have The Pearl so prostitution and such does exist in the Dragon Age universe. And you could innuendo-ly (not a real word... I hope) use sex to unlock the Duelist specialization from Isabella. Of course that was an innuendo carpet bombing.

I've never been a big fan of using game mechanic stats to judge attractiveness of someone in a game though.

I'll pass. Sexual relations in Bioware's games are not mandatory for plot progression, mission progression, or money.

Sexual relations are there to enhance a romance with another character. I feel it shouldn't go beyond that.

Once Bioware starts tacking on rewards like money, or quests, etc etc on to a romance, it starts to look like they're encouraging you to do it, and that's the last thing they want.

Its there if YOU want it. Not because THEY want you to want it.

The occasional thing with an Isabella type character is fine, but even then, the choice was yours. You didn't have to do it that way if you didn't want to.

Making sex a tool for progressing the game translates to a bad idea.

New possibilities after a romance? Sure. But nothing that should be necessary.

Actually, now that you talk about The Witcher OP, that was something which was very akin to Geralt: on the books he was caracterized as very successfull with women lol (I read Blood of Elves and I think it was shown that he had sex with Yennefer, Triss and Shani and I prolly miss some). And there are parts in the storyline, like intrigue games and such, where Geralt uses his charm, which I do think that fits the character.

But in DA? Hell no... Sure, your Hawke could be a charmer, a guy who gets whatever he wants from women, but getting that to the point of have sex with them to progress in the game... I don't think it fits :|

I agree with the OP at some level...for example you have to get information from a guy (if your female hawke) and then just get on with it, you get the information and the game goes on.

ofcourse that would be optional.

*sigh* Its really late here where I live and english aint my native language as well but the perfect example from real life is Mata Hari. Now if you know the history behind her then you know what I mean. If not then you should google her or something.

I agree with this... I think it would ruin (and cheapen) the story if you had to use sex to progress.

Where did LPPrince and Wildannie get mandatory from? OP specifically said it should be optional. IF you choose the quick an easy way to get information just by sleeping with a guy, or girl. Or you choose to scream and threaten him (intimidate) or pursuade him that its in his best interest. No difference for this other than you'd be talking less, and doing more...

So I for one think its a good idea, so long as it is optional and not forced in any part of the story. I mean Fallout 3 had the Black Widow perk, which basically let fem chars flirt with male ones to get info or extra money for a quest.

Anything sensible that adds more options and approaches through the game is a good thing, imo. If you don't like the idea of it, simply never choose that option in dialogue then.

Me it's the opposite . It's add immersion .
In Neverwinter Night  if you played an half-orc you had a charisma penality(Half-orc are ugly).
One of my character was very ugly(I dropped all my charisma point and intelligence point) and during a conversation with a wench in neverwinter i had a very funny conversation.Gosh i still remember it after all those years!!

It's was something like

Wench - Woooooaahh are you sick?
PC - Why you me say that huh?
Wench - You have difficulties to talk? Hmm
PC - You fun making of me!  Me no  sick!!!
Wench - Okay okay ... because something awful was getting out of your nose and..Brrrr ... I just won't watch

If we were talking about optional, this thread would have no point. That option already exists in certain cases.

Thus, to keep the thread going, we must talk about it in a mandatory sense. The sense that it would progress the plot and move it forward, which I feel is counter to Bioware's intent and defeats the purpose of romance options.

Yes very good time .. In Dragon age or Mass effect you can play the ugliest Dwarf that ever walked the land of Thedas and everyone think you're handsome..It's break immersion  when Leliana compliment my  ugly dwarf face.

Ugly people need love also .. But come on.

Yeah I agree... I liked fable 2 in that the hair, clothes, and physical appearance of your character determined how the opposite sex viewed them but the stds were a bit much.....

I hope they don't tease us with fade to black. I want to see everything, even if they were a little awkward in DAO.

Heh as fem warden you can proposition the Dwarf in Redcliffe, Dwynne, to get him to fight.. he turns you down though. :P

I wouldn't mind more 'flirt to get what you want' options.. They can be fun.

I hope the impact of sex on story progression will be kept to a minimum.

"Good thing I drank the Viscount under the table...how could I be named the Champion of Kirkwall otherwise?"

No thanks.

I am not a fan of overt sexuality in the games romances (see Dragon Age Mods which make sex scenes very explicit) but honestly I wish rather then like DAO or Mass Effect 2 they should make sex scenes more like Mass Effect 1. The characters actually were obviously naked (as opposed to the wierd underwear gyrations) but it was still very clean and very classy. Thats the feeling they should shoot for, if  they make it too explicit the romance is taken away and it just feels like watching cheap porn, on the otherhand if they're is underwear and obvious clothing issues it takes away from the reality of the scene.

Sex is the pinacle of a romance, it can help draw a deep sense of connection between the characters when done tastefully.
