Something that doesn't happen when you know the person for a day or two and doesn't happen every time you demand it? I approve.

Well, there has been numerous cases where sex has happened with the partners knowing each other a lot less than one or two days in real life.

True but they don't happen as commonly as games suggest. Shepard is some sort of biotic space pimp in my Mass Effect games (Romanced Ashley, slept with the Consort and romanced Miranda / Tali / Jack by accident.)

Sex equals love.  It's just one of those common tropes that you see in media where you only have a limited amount of time but want a romantic subplot.  Just got to role with it.

Though DA2 does have some room to subvert that what with the 10 year story.

I would like to note that in all the games mentioned above there was much time that was spent that you could not see, for instance travel time, Shepard isn't sitting there with a thumb up his... the entire time, he is getting to know his crew.

Also psychologically speaking people develop bonds with partners based upon shared experiences, the stronger the experience the more powerful the bond. It would not be entirely unheard of to form a relationship quicker with someone you are constantly fighting alongside to save the world/universe.

Also the consort mentioned for Shepard, that's kinda the way prostitution works :P. Jack is psychologically scarred and approaches sex casually so yeah there you go, Tali has respected and liked shepard for longer then 2 years, Miranda of course follows the first rule, throw on top of that that she aparently is a very... sexually active person (check her dossier in lair of the shadow broker DLC). So in actuality the romances are not that odd.

The only problem I really have with the romances is actually in Dragon Age Origins. They make sense over the course of the game but if you work at it your characters could be lovers before you leave Lothering (in my case it was morrigan so I knew her for less then a day and barely knew her lol) I would say that this Dragon Age needs to put blocks in and make sure that relationship advancements progress throughout the game, maybe hitting "going steady" (for lack of a better term" a little before midgame, advancing to lovers a little after midgame, and hinting at the future thereafter.

Sex wasn't mandatory in Fallout 2. The game did a few interesting things with it. A male character could sleep with a crime boss' wife or daughter and the epilogue revealed that the PC's son grew up and took over all the crime in the city from the other families. A female character could sleep with a couple sleazy guys to reduce the price on some plot-related items.

There was a funny part where if you slept with this farmer's son or daughter the father walked in and forced you to marry his kid unless you had very high charisma to persuade him you were a doctor.

Stuff like that sounds ridiculously stupid and I don't even think I want the option for that in my game.

It makes romance pointless and seems like it'd only be put in to attract teenage kids with raging hormones.

That wasn't romance. There was no romance in the game. I found those scenarios humorous actually (save for the crime boss one). But I assume DA is too serious for that kind of thing. It did get pretty close with Isabela and Dwyn though, though I think Dwyn was always an automatic fail when you tried.

It was fun to sleep with Cammen and then tell Gheyna. Cammen says, "I did it for you!" and Zevran says, "Now why have I never thought of that one?"

I still don't know why they made Cammen so hideously ugly. Most of the elves in the game were not good looking, when they were supposed to be attractive.

My Warden had sex with Cammen to give him "experience" in the field of love making.

She didn't tell Gheyna though. She instead persuaded Gheyna to take Cammen as her husband.

I was using my female Warden to pick up missing achievements, so she was a mix of good and evil. Paragon and Renegade, if you will.

Female PCs have some hilarious lines there. They can say, "It was nothing. Well, almost nothing," to Gheyna. My favorite is probably the response to Gheyna's "He talked about me?" A PC can say, "He screamed your name when we made love. That's all."

I get such a kick out of hilariously cruel lines. I bet David wrote that whole quest.

It automatically concludes the quest.

But you get to give the good news to Cammen and cause him to run off into the forest in anguish. So it's not a complete loss.

Not at all. You can easily go trough the whole game wihout having sex with anyone.

Altough it IS funny when you PC gets drunk, sleeps with a woman, and is then forced to mary her by her father (shotgun wedding).^_^

Then you and your wife run around with guins killing mutants.
