I'm wondering if all of this couldn't have been avoided or greatly reduced if they simply implemented a simple dmg/chat log. It makes you wonder, if we have to sit there and try to isolate fleeting, floaty dmg to try and verify or reproduce potential bugs, did the QA team have to do the same? If so, its probably no wonder so many of these bugs got through.
I can understand why Bioware decided to do away with chat logs and detailed emphasis on dmg and formulae to keep things simpler, but the visibility and full disclosure of these dmg formulae and modifiers are what allows for feedback and checks and balances. Instead, you have what DA:Origins is today, not broken or unenjoyable by any means, but clearly a game that drastically favors certain builds and spellcasters.
Here's an incomplete list of some of the more disturbing problems I've seen so far first-hand or mentioned on various forums:
- 1) DEX bug. Widely documented and acknowledged by Bioware, this bug basically gimps the Dagger Rogue badly, but also impacts damage for Archer build Warrior and Rogues as well while making Xbows unviable.
- 2) +Healing % bug. Just saw this mentioned today, but that basically negates some of the bonuses on some of the more potent (and expensive) items/armor in the game.
[*]Again, I'm not saying these bugs make DA broken or unenjoyable by any means, I just think it helps contribute to the clear sense of unbalance between classes and abilities/playstyles in the current build version. I also think much of these imbalances could've been corrected prior to launch if the Dev/QA team had the vital feedback in front of them that a simple chat log would've provided.
